if we have a city, its because people happened to cluster their buildings and ended up adding some roads and shit. I doubt we ever successfully execute one of these master planned societies.

I'd rather the only plan be:
leave room for roads
houses have to be lit

other than that, just let people do their own thing, no preset building style, no plan for the layout of the city, just let it grow naturally.

Although the walled/lit city would be nice for keeping out mobs. That might happen eventually (and we definitely have some expert wall builders.)

I agree, it shouldn't be too hard to light it, considering how easy it is to make torches and how abundant coal is (won't torches be replaced by something else when mp comes out though? maybe will be more difficult than I think). However, a wall may be difficult with a more organic, unplanned city. Whenever more room is required, it would need to be knocked down and rebuilt. I suppose if you give yourself enough room with each expansion it should be a relatively rare occurrence, but just something to be considered.
