I am an idiot then.
fire consumes oxygen. When you have a fire contained in a space, it constantly draws in air from whatever sources it can muster. Technically speaking, if you made a series of thin metal pipes that a contained fire HAS to draw air through (like it's breathing through a straw or two), it may draw the air rapidly enough to provide a cooling effect on the pipes and anything near them.
Did you know that the back of a real fridge actually gets really hot? it doesn't work quite on that principle, but I'm trying to think simple "mincraft engineering" here.
Notch would probably make magic freezers.. :eng99:

I wouldn't go THAT far. You just posted too fast without thinking is all.
Also you probably didn't know about the simplistic pack.
I wish he would just post what the update is rather than going OOOooooOOOooOoooo.

Thanks for that. Also wouldn't it be a really simple edit? I can edit it if you can link me the older one.
A hunger system would be good, IMO. It would make keeping a farm or raising pigs useful, and when SMP comes around, farmers won't make wheat for nothing. The effect of not eating for a two days would be to walk slightly slower and a decreased max health. Three/four days, and you will perform actions such as mining or cutting wood slower, and finally at day five you will walk even slower and lose two hearts a day.
If seasons get implemented, i would like to see a temperature feature. Spending too much time in the summer sun (we're talking almost a whole day) decreases walk and work speed ever so slightly. Bathing in water or resting in the shade will restore you. This also counts for staying near large amounts of lava for extended amounts of time (yet much less than the sun), but somewhat stronger.
As for cold in the winter, making some items generate heat fields (this might be too processor-heavy), like torches, furnaces and lastly fires prevents you from suffering chillyness (slower walk speed), then lastly frostbite (losing hearts, approx. 8 a day if staying nowhere near heat-sources). Wearing special winter clothing under any armor, or leather armor would negate some of the cold.
I think these all combine to present players with fun scenarios like starvation due to bandits stealing food, a small group of intrepid explorers staving off a freezing snow-storm by lighting a fire in an old cabin and farmers getting rich off of the high demand of food.
Please, I'm tired and therefore make less sense than if i were completely sane, so bear with my ideas.
should've posted this in the minecraft thread instead, shit.
This is why fridges sound so much, because huge fans have to cool down the procedure that cools down the fridge.
It's really cool actually!

I made the concept purely based on the back of the fridges heating up while the inside cools down, so burning material can in some way use the energy to cool stuff down. Gave you a tool :v:

Thanks. I tried to keep them as "light" as possible to be fun and as "heavy" to introduce the gameplay aspects in the first place.

I think fridges are too technologically-advanced for Notch to add them; he seems to be going down the whole "magic" route, which sucks to be honest. I like my steampunk and realism, thankyou-very-much.

Actually I'd prefer if he went down the alternative technology route.

If this was implemented raw pork should be inedible, because otherwise you would never go hungry.
I would love for a "Survival" option to be put in, which adds hunger and stamina. It also adds diseases from eating raw pork or fighting zombies and if one enemy finds you, it alerts the rest.

He's not going to make the game a lot more "magic" than it is right now. Pretty mundane stuff, i reckon; no fireballs or mana bars or anything like that.
Half Magic and Half Realistic route! :awesome:

He spoke about adding magic spells that you could cast to the game..
:eng99:
Really, if minecraft becomes all fantasy I will stop playing. I really really love the idea of small amounts of fantasy elements (zombies, dragons, the 'dug too deep' scenario, fuck, even simple weapon/armour enchantments or potions would be cool ) but if there ends up being magic and spells and fireballs and mana, I will ragequit. Hard.
To be honest I hate the way he implemented 'redstone'. The idea of having a material you can construct logic gates from is nice, but making it a glowing red powder that magically opens doors with no power needed? Ugh. Copper wires and generators would have been so much nicer.
I am currently living with a pig. He's been living with me for about 4 ingame days now, and he doesn't bug me at all. He stares at me while I walk away from my house to go to work in the mines (I can see him in the windows) and he does his rave dance every now and then :v:
He's really cool, I'll get a picture of him up in a minute
His name is Ivan :3:

I agree with you, but I don't think he said anything about magic spells, only enchanting tools and weapons.
What burns faster/longer, wood or coal?
What burns faster/longer, wood or coal?
Coal burns longer.
What burns faster/longer, wood or coal?
In order of furnace burn time from shortest to longest it goes:
Sticks
Planks
Trunks
Coal
