I started using this singed build, it seems to work well.

For DPS mundo, I played with crit runes+ masteries so I had 20% at lvl 1.
Wmog, Visage, Atma's and then if I was facerolling I bought stuff like Phantom Dancers and if not I built defensive items.
Just make sure you farm like crazy, it is easy to farm with mundo, but with practice you will be hitting 200cs every game.

But fail to realize the Tier 1 champs are their for a reason because they bring so much to teams.

They do? Every champion for as long as I can remember have had a summoner preview and spotlight. Yet along PCgamer gets a shit load of exclusive previews. We knew about Jarvis 4 for soo long.
