Game replays, they really help. Watch a few and see what their doing, the best replays are your losses. There are also tips and guides as well.

QFT. I forgot about this. But basically every RTS i've ever been remotely decent or good at has been because of watching countless replays from the best players. VERY helpful. Really. Watch a few of these and you're set.
the golden rule of base based rts games: EXPAND
First have a set plan at the start of the game. Plan your unit queue etc.
Don't hesitate to scout out ahead, put up a defense, but not over the top, and focus on your army. Just send raid squads, and when you know the general outline of the enemy army, build a bigger army and attack.
Men of War best rts ever
I really want to play Empire Earth right now.

I'd say go for two. But no further, that's for sure. Two seemed to be just an overall improvement, am I forgetting something that made the first better?
Regardless, same. I miss that game.

Kinda frustrating when most your guys fighting run out of ammo, and trying to move them will cost their life. But I agree it's fun.
My fave rts' are:
Warcraft III
Age of empires 2
starcraft
Age Of Empire 2 and Stronghold : Crusader , dayum !

I have to agree, no basebuilding for a more balanced gameplay, you can never really "die".
Is there a modern RTS game that's similar to Age of mythology? AOM was the only RTS game that i fuckin loved.
Well I'm sure there is one but I haven't actually heard of any newer Age- style RTS games.
Here's a list of Age style games:

Alright, fuck it then. I gotta stick to fps games. I never got into starcraft and warhammer, supreme commander or even company of hereos type of rts games...
More companies need to make Age of mythology/empires style rts games.
So, I've owned Starcraft and Dawn of War for like years now. I've always sucked at them. I'm more of an Age of Empires kind of dude (building a civilization, not attacking). I've tried to play them, I got pretty far in the Space Marine campaign in DoW40K and eventually quit.
So, need some pro-tips and some suggestions of good starter games. Go!
Don't just try to sit in your base and build a huge army then go and steamroll - it doesn't work. You need to be aggressive, don't be afraid to risk a squad to cap a point a little ways from your base, always support close combat units with ranged units. These are basics, since I am assuming you are still in the the 'stay in base and attempt to build army' phase of dawn of war playing.
