You should have faster load times as a pro on cartridges, seeing how they don't have to spin up or anything.
I remember the psp having terrible load times because of that.
Don't forget battery life as a result of this.
cartridges are good for kids
fucking cunts can't ruin them by fucking the shit out of them so i can leave them and not worry about it

not then, now we could just put a USB drive in there.
granted disks are still cheaper per GB but still

We're moving full circle back :v:
I remember getting Majoras Mask as a kid, oh how it would change if you turn it, and the front will fade into a different looking picture.
And I was scratch it to make that weird sound.
Oh the nostalgia.
I still have it, actually.
Speaking of this conversation, I am in a desperate mood of replaying Ocarina of Time at the moment.

Do it
The only thing I miss about cartridges is the fact that they made some of them transparent.

God, how did I make all those spelling mistakes

This.
Also I'm glad Nintendo still uses that sort of technology for even the new 3DS. :downs:
(Sorta)

Wait wait
We have USB thumbdrives that can hold 3x more data than discs can.
I've always been using disks for my console games... PSX and up my whole life.
The gloss on disks screams quality for me. You can see everything it's been through the scratches and wear. And you can tell when a disk is bad; with cartridges you don't know till you play it. Oh, and N64 games along with gameboy games had batteries in them so that you can save. Since we're dependent on internal hard-drives they don't need any batteries.
I fucking loved cartridges.
Save data right on them, really quick to load, and sturdy and less clumsy.
Bring them back.
Just saying the word cartridge is cumbersome. I pick discs.
I don't see Crysis: Warhead on a cartridge.
Do you?
no but it fits on a flash drive
modern 'cartridges'
games on flash media (microsd, 3ds/ngp carts)
With most games you can still play, you just can't save your game anymore. Well, you can save all you want actually, but no data will actually be stored.
At least, that's what it was like with Pokemon Red for my gameboy
Oh shit I've just realized. I was well aware of cartridges having batteries inside, and because of what you just said now I had completely remembered that one game I had, Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, didn't allow you to save the game since it would just pretty much format itself every-time you powered off the system.
I also have a problem with Pokemon Sapphire. I can still save fine but the game clock has stopped working entirely due to the battery. I could replace the battery, but doing so would format all my save data on it.
Even better for cartridges with graphics cards and stuff i still have my WarioWare game for the GBA that has some tumor on it that senses motion, it was like a early handheld Wii.
This thing

Now i am sad that i sold my GBA:SP.
If a cartridge could store more and be more sturdy, as well as the console itself, I would welcome them. I hate smudging disks and accidentally breaking them, storing them can also be a bitch.
Cartridges for nostalgia / retro reasons.
I voted for both. I do wish we stuck with cartridges though, even if they were bulky/expensive, they were cool as hell. I might be biased, but I hate it when other people touch my disks and scratch them to hell, making it unplayable. With cartridges, you can't scratch it, and only an idiot would tr to break them. Also some have their own processor which is badass. Its like an extension of the original device.
Since the introduction of Blu-ray, discs have become much more durable. Blu-rays have a scratch resistant coating that can resist something like 220 grit sandpaper or something and not have any scratches. Yeah, 220 (or whatever it is; might be lower grit or higher) is not much, but I have not managed to scratch a Blu-ray yet. You can definitely be a little bit less careful with them because they are more durable than DVDs.
I have to say disks.
This maybe because we have spent so much time with them and became so familiar with them.
I beg to differ on how easily they break. I think it's a little OTT. I've been careless with my disks and they still work perfect even with visible scratches.
Plus you can get programs to get the information from a disk if it doesn't work.
Not to clued up with cartridges though. I remember the frustration of my old Sega games crashing and having to do the old attempt of blowing down the slot to make it work.
Would it be that costly to pay 10-30 extra dollars (That's around the price of a usb stick, i think that's what a cartridge would cost to make...) for a better, faster, quieter, sturdier, easier to store type of media for games?
I think no-one here is considering that if we went back to cartridges, they would be more like a beefed up thumbdrive with some propietary connector than one of the old ones. They would be smaller. They would consume less power. They would be FASTER.
I like how the OP missed the whole point behind cartridges nowadays.
Loading times. There's a reason why gamers are going for SSDs in their computers.
To anyone who said CDs: Well then CDeeeeez Nutz on your foehead!!
I'd prefer disks mainly because cartridges simply can't provide the level of audio quality a disk can.

Going for what?
Going for what?
Solid state drives.

See, this is what i'm talking about.
Modern-day carts would have the same (or more) storage capacity than disks! Companies will easily fit lossless FLAC audio into their games!
For some reason it feels better to insert a floppy disk into a computer than a regular Dvd.
Even though it is completely impractical.

Does it feel so good that your disk isn't floppy anymore?
