It's the fact that they give us said chance, but only make it possible to get it a couple hours early at best. Most people would sleep through it, and Valve actually holds the reigns to most of the event anyway.

Yeah, this ARG was worth of being wrote as an epic but lead to a huge disappointing ending.
Valve kind of fucked us over too, they could of just released it friday making everyone happy and stopping all of these leaks and spoils. I mean, whats the point of releasing the game a few hours early? I already get it monday either way since I got it retail.

I think the crafting broke the game. I dunnoh, before the whole weapons update/crafting, I just thought the game was way more fun.

Remember that when we are referring to the potato count, we are getting that data from the glados@home page. It is my belief that this figure may not actually represent the actual amount of potatoes obtained, but may be a figure obtained through a similar process as the percent completed figures. So in a way you're correct, the rate at which we obtain potatoes is probably related to the rate of percent completed.
However, the rate at which potatoes are being gained looks way too linear to be a pure figure. You can see some player influence on that value, however it's definitely not the pure potato value. The number we see on the website is probably obtained through an "ax+b" style equation.
Maybe we only need a majority filled. That would be BTB's bar. 7 out of 13.
