Could somebody sum up what happened in the last 8 hours?
Maybe everyone has realized our efforts were mostly in vain, it was fun to see the hope of it but it's silly to think this is something amazing Valve has given us, because it was a marketing scheme, and only 1 or 2% of all of Steam actually participated.
Here is my theory:
We stop playing until the aux backup kicks in then begins the multiplier.
We then begin playing like mad getting time in while it is active.
We stop again when the aux backup turns off and repeat the process.
This is how I think it would happen.

I feel like overestimating the amount of participating players isn't really trolling. unless you like throwing that word around.
This whole f***ing ARG was a big joke. We won't even be at 85% at 9AM, 3 days after it began.

imo its a mix of what you and the other guy said
some of the games are a great deal (amnesia, reckless disregard), others (fucking cogs, kick it, katamari clone) I'm never going to play again. and the beginning part of the ARG was fucking fantastic but this later part is stupid as shit, albeit a good marketing ploy.
Why people are shitting their pants to play their precious portal two a few hours earlier is beyond me.
This whole thing was fun, and made the waiting alot less boring

I think leading people on to Friday, telling them it was "next Tuesday" and "04/19/11" instead of the actual release date, releasing hints that the game was coming out on Friday, putting up this page, then having it only coming out an hour early with no help whatsoever even due to the extremely low amount of people actually caring enough to participate, is trolling no matter how you look at it.

You're ignoring the fact that they can't anticipate how many people participate. And I feel like no matter what you post from now on, you'll still throw that part out, because it lets you go on about how Valve exists solely to 'lol troll'

No because I'm a bit of a fanboy myself, I love Steam, and have never really been disappointed by anything they've done, and I still don't care too much about this, but they shouldn't have bothered throwing this game up for us to play if they were going to do anything. You can't anticipate but you can sure as hell take a few seconds and see how many people are actually participating in the thing. Hell, I can look at GlaDOS@Home right now, and in a few hours, and then at peak hours, and see that only a few thousand are playing, maybe 30 or 40,000 compared to the 2 million - 3 MILLION people on Steam, and throw the people trying a bone, but instead they sat back and watched. Anyways, rant over.
I'm giving up, whatever happens now I will get to play it tomorrow morning either way, and not any sooner.
I still hope you guys will get it as early as possible though, but I'm beginning to doubt this is helping much.

They've communicated through Jeep and Dougley. I think you're just mad because it didn't go the way YOU wanted. They aren't sitting in the office going "Haha, they suck" they are probably disappointed that their customer base didn't follow through on this like they'd hoped. If that's the case, why would they make it cake? They wanted it to be a challenge, just because we don't ace it doesn't mean they are assholes, so quit vilifying them.

Not referring to it isn't failing to acknowledge. I completely understand, I'd hang my head in shame if only 1% of my user base did anything to help one of the games I'd hyped up to my greatest ever too. It didn't mean they had to make it so challenging. Even if they had, there was a supposed "cap" on CPUs, so that it was scheduled to go at a certain time either way we wanted it. The whole thing was another golden wrench fiasco.
I'm mostly holding out hope that the Auxilliary Power will just kick in at a predetermined time and the remaining stuff will be able to be completed super fast from that point.
