There was a site that let you unlock a few potatoes without needing the game. So they disabled the potatoes for those they deemed "cheaters". Seems it only lasted like 15 minutes though.
For instance on my profile - I only got 8 of those legitimately, the other 8 are from the site since I don't have any other TPS games.

I just got referred to this and I want to help where I can. I already got potatoes in Killing Floor and Audiosurf, my question is this. Do I just let the two games run overnight? Does that work, or do I need to use a program that refreshes them?

Only the first launched counts, and you can let them idle but there has to be some kind of activity so you aren't eventually set to Away then Snooze in Steam, at which point the time no longer counts. ie, alt tabbing and browsing works, letting your computer sit idle all night doesn't.

You can only run one of the two. You don't have to play normally. As long as steam says you're in-game in any of the two, you're contributing to that game.
