I need to try this sometime, GTA engine DayZ sounds 100 times more hilarious/fun. A good alternative I guess.
Just curious but who moved iRunners tents onto glorious cargo ship of helicopter landing pads?
Because I don't remember anyone else logging off on here. :v:
What are the zombie spawns like? Can they spawn in the woods and shit? Or only in the same areas normal pedestrians would spawn?

They spawn in woods and stuff, they just in short terms, teleport in a radius around you at times. Its more common in built up areas.

Rip boat and tents
You were good, real good, maybe even the best ;_;7
Ok I am going to install San Andreas again, I might get on sometime in the FP server. I will find a jetpack and I will soar to the heavens.
I doubt there are jetpacks but that would be the fucking shit. Of course it would need a fuel system though.
How do you take down a tent?
How do you take down a tent?
Walk up to it, when it shows the inv prompt, scroll down, you'll see the little menu on the left change, press - and the tent will be packed down for you to pickup.

No jetpacks*

Started working on the resource with Asaratha. So far, implementing real time ingame time change and weather change. We have a bit of an issue though, one of the functions is based on ingame time rate, so when I changed the clock to operate at regular speed, it takes 1 hour for weather to change, instead of 1 minute. Working with the MTA devs to fix this :v I will update from time to time on our progress of everything!
should i put props all over the map like the dayz devs did or leave it as is
More aesthetically imo. Less car wrecks ( But more evenly placed on the map rather than 50 car wrecks on the San Fierro bridge for example ) that can hinder zombies but more stuff like trashpiles. Also you have these models of very thick vegetation and vines that aren't used anywhere in the vanilla map, maybe you can create an ''urban jungle'' with those at some places.

Or maybe we should do what the DayZ team does, have a collab map sat on svn or something, everyone does some editing so no two parts of the map are the same, I'd personally like to see some car wrecks in the cities and countryside, or at least abandoned/crashed/flipped vehicles.
I agree that the DayZ team went overboard with their map, rocks blocking entire tunnels? Since when did an outbreak cause buildings to collapse. It'd make more sense to have a flipped truck blocking them.

Doesn't MTA support online map editing anyway? That could probably work.
ye you can start up a local map editing server i believe, i've been on a couple but i didn't set them up
You can host the map editor on a server. It's just a resource like everything else in MTA. I've done that before to collab on a map. The editor isn't made to work with multiple people, but it seems to do a decent job of handling it. Beware though, it can cause map corruption if you have a bunch of idiots doing shit. Best bet would to be create a whitelist of people who can work on the map.

Might work if the server routinely backs up the file and forces saves periodically.

The issue comes up when multiple users attempt to edit 1 object. It can corrupt it for some reason. The .map files of MTA are just XML. It's an easy fix generally, IF you can find the broken object :)

Yeah I noticed that, the fact it saves the position with exact data to the decimal place makes it annoying.
I guess we could throw up an editor server later then, I mean I've got the files already basically, just means throwing up a new instance.
We can just work out who's working on what area, so that no two people are working on the same object at one time.
Also, not sure if anyone here visits the Mapping section, but it's a part of my mapper's duty to help with this. I'm up for a whitelist or something like that.
Alright I got everything installed im gonna try this out.
[editline]26th February 2013[/editline]
Wait is there anything else for the FP sever that I need to download? I am downloading a 15mb file and it's taking forever.
[editline]26th February 2013[/editline]
Wow nevermind the download speed kicked up when I wasn't looking.
[editline]26th February 2013[/editline]
Umm what do I do if my player just started sitting and I can't stop getting out of the animation

Go into the hostage animation (. I think) then toggle out.
Jesus, so much shit happened today. I met up with a friend who was new, in my Barracks, and as we were driving back we were hit by Michael, who was on a bike. I didn't mean to hit him but he was dragged under the barracks, when he got up he shot at me. The barracks was damaged so I hopped out and shot at him, he tried to run so I killed him and apologized (I wasn't just gonna let my friend die). We found a sanchez and repaired it then went to the police sea base in SF, looking for more. We found a sanchez and another player, named jeffreycross. He asked if we were cool and we said that we didn't want to fight him or anything, we got the second sanchez and glued it to my barracks and started to drive back to our base.
On the way there, we found two more standard-skinned survivors, who seemed friendly. One was called hunk and the other one was running away. When we spoke to them in local chat, they didn't respond. I drove down to see the other guy, and he span around and started shooting. I managed to catch the name jeffreycross before yelling "NO DONT" and dying, with both my barracks and sanchez exploding. I spawned incredibly close, ironically near where we killed Michael, and a few moments later my friend also died. By the time I had returned, my body was glitched and duped and being looted by hunk.
One of the sanchezs survived and I was circling hunk, asking him not to shoot. Every time I drew near he'd do the surrender animation, but drew his gun out when I moved away. I continued to drive around on the one-wheeled sanchez when the server lost connection. Upon reconnection, I noticed nobody else online and took my opportunity to recover my gear, though lots of it remained in the other duped corpses. I ran back to the sanchez and noticed hunk log in. Realizing that he was going to take my loot, which I could share with my three other teammates, I waited for him to uncrouch and sniped him (m4d hedsh0tz). I apologized, took my gear, repaired my sanchez and returned to my base. I decided to cruise around on the sanchez while waiting for fabric to come online, and when I got back to the crime scene I was met with a bus and two men in (my) sniper skins. I told them not to shoot but they still aimed at me, so I circled the area at high speed, chanting "BUSTA BUSTA BUSTA" on radio. They drove off and I left them go, before being met by a familiar friend.
I picked up the rest of my bugged items and continued driving, when I found a gearless survivor. Of course, this survivor was jeffreycross. I told him to stay still and I would talk to him, but he kept running at me, apparently trying to jack my sanchez. I gave him a final warning but he still chased after me, so I had to kill him. He didn't have many items, as expected, but I didn't feel guilty because he blew the fuck out of all my shit. By this time, fabric had logged in and we decided to drive around looking for another car.
jeffreycross had been messaging me, saying that he never saw my friendly messages during our first meeting (even though I used both radio and local, and he was close enough to hear both) and making lots of excuses and asking if he could join us. As we headed over north, he told me he would give us supplies. I ignored him and we began to drive over the northern SF bridge. No surprise, we happened to run into jeffreycross again, who was armed with a SPAZ-12 but didn't seem hostile. Fabric and I remained untrustworthy and asked what he had to offer, and he dropped some basic items (pizza, pistol ammo etc). We told him not to shoot or come too close or we would attack, and he made the most amazing escape ever by running and jumping straight off the bridge, into the water far below.
After venturing through the desert on a bike with no name, he said that he was on the bridge again, waiting for his friend. At this point, we knew he'd attack us because he had a partner. We drove over the bridge and faced a wire fence and two armed men, jeffreycross and the infamous Vlad, the silent player that never replies to anyone and always dies. They shot at us and Fabric took little damage while I was down to 2000hp. Driving back the way we came, I healed myself quickly and it began.
Fabric and I both had sniper rifles and we positioned ourselves near Bayside, crouching behind the roadblocks. Our infrared goggles showed us the red, leaf-shaped enemies across the bridge. After a few minutes of watching, Vlad was shot down by Fabric, but jeffreycross was well protected by a large roadblock sign. A couple of minutes passed and Fabric decided to check if he was still there, only to find the bridge empty. I drove to the end and back to make sure he hadn't run away, and it was all clear. We headed down to Bayside and watched the water for a minute or two. jeffreycross was nowhere in sight. I spotted a red figure splashing close to the dock walls, and shot. A single round from my sniper rifle, and jeffreycross was dead (although his body disappeared, so we couldn't loot him).
Fabric and jeffreycross both disconnected and I returned to my hideout. After a while, jeffreycross logged back in. To rub my victory in, I messaged him with "0wnd scrub cant no hood fuck wid death rizzow" and he proposed a truce. Of course, I wasn't about to become buddies with a person who was completely untrustable, and politely told him to get fucked m8.
To any random person looking at the scoreboard, I'd probably seem like a bandit. But I don't just kill for fun, or without reason, or as soon as I see a player. I only attack those that can be a threat to myself or my lil niggas.

Yeah fuck you two. There was no way you can get on there without a heli and I have both of them, killing me when I was in spectator with another player.
a bunch o shit
dude that was the most adrenaline pumping experience in my life. i yelled at jeffery "SURRENDER OR I'LL KILL YOU" and when I was walking up slowly to see if he was still there, he was just gone. jumped off the bridge.
it felt like a movie, yoyo.

I'm surprised he survived the fall, normally hitting water from that hight causes you to break your legs then bleed out. Also this [HX]Hazzard guy and his friends are fucking nuts, they are currently riding a 3 man sanchez up along the wire supports of the red bridge.

These guys, fucking I didn't even know you could do that.

That's me on the top, I fucking had a ball of a time with them, they made my first day playing an awesome experience. We found the fucking MOTHERLOAD tent in a area which I will not disclose. We ended up with so much ammo and shit I didn't know what to do with it.
Here are some screenies from that day.
The MTA level editor makes me want to strangle things
it looks pretty simple and easy to use, i haven't had any problems with it
[editline]sds[/editline]
also to make this post actually useful, i've been getting some ideas for your version of the DayZ mod:
1) can you make night time actually dark enough to use nightvision goggles?
2) can you make it so the colder you are the less heat is shown through infrared goggles?
3) can you make tents "glue" to whatever entity it's placed on, for instance if I wanted to place a tent on my boat and ride around with it?
4) are custom animations for doing specific things easy/possible?
5) can you make fort constructing more then just putting up wired fences? I'd love to be able to place walls for a little make shift hideout, and have wire fences surrounding it, it seems nifty.
Another suggestion I have is to paste random wacky resources/scripts into the dayz code from the MTA forums. This GTA dayz after all, and GTA:SA is the ultimate fuck-around game. Think about stuff like fastroping from helicopters, tagging up walls with graffity, having an enterable cargo-space in the andromada, or give players the ability to control an entire cargo ship as some sort of movable base. I got some pages with random resources bookmarked.

Post them then silly. They might even get added to the current server like glue did.
last time I used the editor you couldn't create groups and move multiple items at the same time, which i found particularly annoying.
Another banned for tent exploitation.
