I have ZoneAlarm and it works okay except it wants your permission for EVERYTHING
Don't use antivirus. Antivirus is a virus, it creates barriers, runs consuming background processes and hardly ever does that job right. Every virus has to execute or else it won't do anything, and that means I can find it in the task manager, if I find it in the Task Manager I can find the root files and prevent it from running by either ending the process and deleting, or removing the core files that make it function properly. I haven't needed to do that in a while though but I beat two trojans doing that. Some viruses used to be impossible to stop because they'd change your user account permissions but MS seems to have fixed that so I don't need antivirus anymore.
Good lord, you're so stupid it actually hurts my brain reading your post. running NOD32 and have no problems

Seriously. [editline]06:23AM[/editline] Better yet, don't post anything about AV's. Ever.
Better yet, don't post.
Spybot? Terrible resource hog. Hasn't improved since the wave of bad reviews.
Living up to your name I see Run an AV, use a hardware firewall (router), run periodic scans with Spybot and Malwarebytes'. You're good to go.
I see no problem here, WoW is malware right?
I see no problem here, WoW is malware right?
It's a MMO. A game. Millions of others don't seem have a problem with it.
I use Malwarebytes Anti Malware. it is the best i have used.
NOD32 Suite Malwarebytes Anti Malware Ad-Aware Spybot
AVG's never really been a problem for me I guess. I usually fix it myself and add exceptions myself so I never get any real problems.
I've gotten some weird false positives from Avira, too. Installed Daikatana from a disc, and it detected one of the core files as a virus.
get nod32 it is the real shit
My dad sells this :D Or he is a re-seller for it or something like that, but anyways just saying that my dad sells it :P
Microsoft Security Essentials!
Get this, haven't had any viruses and it doesn't give me any trouble.
Get this, haven't had any viruses and it doesn't give me any trouble.
Just because you "haven't had any viruses" doesn't make it good or better than anything else. It's quite a heavy program. http://www.raymond.cc/antivirus/
McAfee, hooray!
AVG hates games, that's why I switched to Avast!
i have avg and my games run fine
I'm using avast! now and it's not giving me any issues, just like nod32, except that when I downloaded something when nod32 was running my cpu would be used up a lot.
Don't ever post in threads regarding AV's. Seriously. Better yet, don't post anything about AV's. Ever.
I'm just telling you my experience. There were multiple executables running as 'a.exe', 'b.exe', 'c.exe'. They were a process tree so I just ended it in the task manager and deleted the files in the labeled destinations. They were in my temp folder. I've been smart about my downloads and haven't had a virus in a while, at the time I had been using AVG myself, but it's signature based which is the only method that antivirus uses, so it's easy to exploit because minor changes can prevent it from being detected until it's updated. There are antivirus that are intelligent and don't act off of signature libraries, but they are obnoxious and act on false positives consistently. I understand that the idea of troubleshooting a virus yourself is unpopular but I hardly think it's fair to throw out dumbratings and insult me as a response. These are my experiences.
You act like viruses just sit in memory and don't do anything. And that rootkits are nonexistent. And that the system can't be permanently damaged and your information can't be stolen.
You act like viruses just sit in memory and don't do anything. And that rootkits are nonexistent. And that the system can't be permanently damaged and your information can't be stolen.
Rootkits obviously exist, but I elaborated before that Operating System security has risen to a degree that overwriting administrative privileges is a rarity. I've had multiple viruses on Windows 7 and none of which have done any permanent damage, however I have had a tablet on XP brought to it's knees by spyware. It's also true that your own actions can give viruses free reign over your system and cause permanent damage, but it requires a certain level of user input that most people with common sense won't fall into. I think it's more of a preferential thing, because I find virus protection to be too invasive, and have most of my data backed up regardless. Sure it's an inconvenience to maintain backups, but so is dealing with virus protection, which will often lead to receiving viruses regardless. I would even be more sided towards using UAC, which while obnoxious, asks you about running any unrecognized processes before running them. This is a way that lets you discern a program's dangers without running separate processes and leaving you at the mercy of outdated signature libraries. Hell there was widespread issue with Bad Company 2 and antivirus causing stalled respawns because the game would download new kit loadout information and virus protection would scan it every time, and there was no way of knowing that in game. The main point I'm getting at is that we're often going to be subject to viruses anyways, and internal Operating System security often exceeds the rate at which third party antivirus does, and you're likely to get viruses even with virus protection.

AVG fucking sucks. It always tells me that everything is a tracking cookie, they're just ads from AIM or something.
Don't the installers/patchers tell you to turn off your anti virus temporarily because the heuristic algorithms in them like to throw false positives?

I had this problem once, I am guessing either false positive as others said or because the downloader sometimes run's off P2P, maybe you got a virus from someone else?
step 1: remove avg step 2: get something better
This is such an opinionated fucking thing to say, and I don't understand why. It shouldn't be too debatable as to which anti-virus is better than the other, I either hear that Avast is the best, or that it sucks dick. I've heard everywhere (except this thread) that AVG is the best, but apparently not?
