Any beginners tips for beating the Isaac and Blue Baby bosses? I got past Mum though.
this game seems to be too hard for me. I am never been able to get past the fourth level in the basement. It is just way too difficult.
I think one strategy for Isaac/Blue Baby boss fight is to have high damage attacks that deal it all in one blow, since Phases 1 and 2 fire tears in retaliation to getting hit, and a high-rate of fire yields lots of teary-eyed retaliation. Having items like Mom's Knife or Brimstone would work well in this regard; Technology 2 can make the fight pretty hard since it hits a lot.
After Phase 3 they don't seem to retaliate anymore, but monsters spawn. This makes the fights harder for Samson for the first two phases, then it becomes easier when you can gain power from slaying the angel fetuses.
Finally beat Mom!

And then Mom's Heart in the Meat 4 Ever Challenge!
...and then lost to Satan

Do challenge one before any other challenge. If you make a map in paint or gimp or whatever, it isn't really a challenge at all. I say this because the reward is...

So I naturally made a dollar (that is, without getting the dollar) and am currently gambling every cent away.
So I'm stuck with this laptop without savefile and can somehow run the game.
I've unlocked every character (except Blue Baby of course) in two runs. v:v:v

I find Brimstone pretty useless against bosses in general. It has a pretty low damage output, even with maxed out damage, and damage multipliers like the Book of Belial or Whore of Babylon don't seem to affect it. Of course that's a different story if you have Polyphemus but that leaves you with an horribly long charge time.

My answer? About seven. This is why Habit+Revelations combined with the Mitre is so fucking broken.

Yeah that's why I stopped picking up the Book of Revelations. It's not really fun and it's not even that good when you think of it, since picking it up and using it pretty much guarantees a Harbinger on every floor and therefore four cubes of meat instead of potentially useful HP ups.
So, just started playing.
Two questions here, how do I buy stuff? In the shop I just couldn't figure out, some items had the price in red and others in white, I assume I had the money in white but no way to buy them.
Second, there's no saving? Is this game like a Marathon and once you die, you're done and that's it or am I just missing something?

Not necessarily. Conquest and Headless count, and they can drop their unique ponies. It's also pretty much the only way to get the Super Bandage.

Red means it's discounted, there's only one kind of currency.
And this is a roguelike, when you die you die forever, runs don't take very long to complete.

Ohoh, didn't realize it was a roguelike though it makes sense.
Very fun little game too.
yeah boiiiiiiiiiiiiii
5th playthrough, I beat Mom's Heart.
It helps that I found the Bible on the first level though.
Fucking god damn fuck.
I died at my first battle with mom JUST as I killed her.

Not really a roguelike. Perma-death doesn't mean that a game is a roguelike. Would you consider Realm of the Mad God a roguelike?
Keep on getting shitty luck. I always get apparently shit items like cat o nine tails.
And this is a roguelike
No it isn't

It's not
don't listen to him
2012 and people are still arguing over the definition of roguelike. This is getting silly.

Actually it's kinda important that people know what each genre is. If I said that Age of Empires was a turn based strategy, somebody would be pretty pissed if they bought it and found out it's a RTS if they don't like them.
Playing as Magdelene. Hopefully I can get past Mum without getting owned immediately...

"Action-adventure game with randomly generated levels and permadeath" sound better then?
Binding of Isaac is actually quite difficult to explain because it is quite genre crossing. I'd just say it's an Action-Adventure with permadeath if I was explaining it. The random levels are not really that important anyway, whilst the permadeath is.
I find it weird how so many people suddenly think that permadeath is strictly a roguelike thing. Pretty much every game made before the late 90s had permadeath.
That's because most games before the 90s didn't have much content so they added on difficulty using things such as permadeath.
I don't think BoI really falls into a single genre but it most closely identifies with a roguelike IMO
Try telling that to the people in the Roguelike thread.
Even if it isn't strictly-speaking a roguelike, like Moria or Dungeons of Dredmor, it's definitely roguish; having elements similar to roguelikes whilst not fully qualifying.
The combat isn't turn-based and you can walk outside of specific tiles, so to be honest it doesn't really even come close to qualifying as a roguelike.

it really doesn't though

I was just going to post this.
A roguelike that isn't turn-based and tile-based is like a FPS that isn't in the first-person perspective.
i.e. it ceases to be one of those things when you remove those elements
I'll give you the turn-based aspect but BoI still takes level randomization, permadeath and a sort of dungeon-crawl gameplay style from roguelikes.
It's a mish-mash of a bunch of things, but I see it taking most inspiration from roguelikes than anything else.
