See it's hilarious because you're sitting here throwing out insults like sperg and acting like I'm retarded when even in your own evidence the game say they draw
influence
from roguelikes. Spelunky is an adventure game and BoI is a dungeon crawler. They aren't roguelikes at all. A roguelike is Dungeons of Dredmor. [editline]16th July 2012[/editline] Calling BoI a roguelike is like calling Call of Duty an RPG because it has an experience system and level up rewards. It's still an FPS.

"It has no rogue like elements not a single one!" Is the dumbest part, and I keep re-reading it hoping that my eyes are just messed up.
That's like saying Binding of Isaac isn't a twinstick shooter because it uses more keys than just two sticks/pads/arrows.

Are you serious, I say right there that BoI draws influence from roguelikes but that doesn't make it a fucking roguelike. It's a dungeon crawler. Yes, it has elements from a roguelike, but it's not roguelike because it doesn't have all the features of a roguelike. I'm really thinking you're just trolling at this point. The both of you.
^^^^ You're wrong dude. Go watch TV or something and come back later. I've already proved my sources, posted various places and whatnot backing it up... you're just kinda lost at this point I'm really really sorry. Stop shitting up the thread, please.
What does The Polaroid do exactly?
When you hit half a heart left it creates a shield around you, if you're blue baby or going on soul hearts alone it pops up every time you're hit :v: It also let's you go to the bonus level at the end of the Cathedral.
hello can everyone stop arguing about semantics for a second how do I do a deal with the devil? like he has some items there but I have no idea how to take them
walk over them
hello can everyone stop arguing about semantics for a second how do I do a deal with the devil? like he has some items there but I have no idea how to take them
Walk over them to trade your hearts for them. He'll kill you if you don't have enough hearts though. (I'm still not sure how soul heart conversion works. Sometimes you'll have soul hearts left over, sometimes I've just had them all taken and left at 1-hit to kill me) Edit: You can dumb bomb me all you want Protocol but it won't make you right :v:.
Oh yeah I forgot, the entire internet is wrong and you're correct. Whoops. I'm sorry. Try not to use such a shitty example if you try again please. Is the dumbest part, and I keep re-reading it hoping that my eyes are just messed up.
no actually you're not even reading your sources being "inspired" by a genre does not immediately place it into that genre. Protocol's example of Call of Duty is excellent and you're refusing to accept it because you can't admit you're wrong. which is the problem with this argument. you're convinced you're correct, but the sources you posted actually contradict what you're saying. it's silly, really.
Edit: You can dumb bomb me all you want Protocol but it won't make you right :v:.
You already proved yourself wrong fella. I'm not denying that BoI is a hybrid, but the genre it plays into most is a dungeon crawler. It lacks two of the most important things that roguelikes have, which is turn-based movement and tile movement. It plays like a dungeon crawler with roguelike elements, but that's a tongue twister so just call it a dungeon crawler.
just food for thought: you know what else has randomization and permadeath? TETRIS tetris is the best damn roguelike I've ever played!!11
Surprisingly enough I'm actually being level headed while you're just being a cunt about everything :) That's how arguments on the internet work I guess
Back on topic-ish: when does the path to Sheol/the Cathedral open up? Is that after beating the game 10 times?
just food for thought: you know what else has randomization and permadeath? TETRIS tetris is the best damn roguelike I've ever played!!11
Minecraft in hardcore mode! So roguelike
you're all rougelikes now shut up already
Back on topic-ish: when does the path to Sheol/the Cathedral open up? Is that after beating the game 10 times?
I thought it was just at the end whenever you got far enough into it, but I've never actually gotten that far so I couldn't tell ya
3rd time beating Mom's Heart, with this shiz. 7th playthough. How many more times until I start fighting It Lives?
9 or 10 I think?
You already proved yourself wrong fella.
Not really lol :v:
I'm not denying that BoI is a hybrid, but the genre it plays into most is a dungeon crawler. To most the randomized dungeons or the randomness itself is the most important thing. To you maybe. Also the fact you're calling it a hybrid is kind of agreeing with my post up there. Like, did you even read the bottom part where I called it by that? I said it was a dungeon crawler. It is. I said it's a Rogue like at the very base of definition, it has elements of Rogue in it, it's like Rogue in a lot of ways but different in many others, but it's still like rogue. Flip the words around Rogue like. Until the genre is defined with what can or cannot be in it, it will be clumped as part Roguelike. Saying it has absolutely no Rogue like features though is insanely stupid as it has; Random Levels Random Items/Pickups. Pills (potions) change every playthrough Different Bosses Freedom to move around and go various places Tons of items and options. That's it.
9 or 10 I think?
[sp]Ninth ending is the one with It Lives in[/sp], so the last time you fight Mom's Heart is when you're killing it for the ninth time and the tenth time and every time after that will be It Lives.
just food for thought: you know what else has randomization and permadeath? TETRIS tetris is the best damn roguelike I've ever played!!11
This is a strawman. Just food for thought: You know what else has jumping and platformers? HALF LIFE 2 Half life 2 is the best damn platformer I've ever played!!11 Edit: Dammit automerge. (User was banned for this post ("Flaming again and carrying on after being warned to stop." - postal))
Oh boy I worded that more complexly than I needed to.
This is a strawman. Just food for thought: You know what else has jumping and platformers? HALF LIFE 2 Half life 2 is the best damn platformer I've ever played!!11 Edit: Dammit automerge.
yes this is my point. ALSO on topic: what the fuck is up with familiars? I got the Harlequin Baby on my last playthrough and it seemed to randomly cycle between Brother Bobby and the Harlequin Baby. Rather annoying.
hey sift when a mod says shut up it's generally a good idea to do it
yes this is my point. ALSO on topic: what the fuck is up with familiars? I got the Harlequin Baby on my last playthrough and it seemed to randomly cycle between Brother Bobby and the Harlequin Baby. Rather annoying.
Your point is to provide shitty arguments. Cool. And that's a known thing, my theory on it is that the followers/whatever run on Bobby's AI, so whenever something fucks with whatever followers you have, it just switches it to Bobby. I know for awhile the Holy Water would cause any shooting familiars to turn into Bobby, unless it was broken then it would go back to normal or something like that.
ALSO on topic: what the fuck is up with familiars? Rather annoying.
Pretty much every familiar conflits with another, most turning into Bobby. If you had Holy Water, it'll be Bobby until the holy water is downed, then it'll correct itself. I think the Bum Friend does the same, but I can't be sure.
Holy shit shut up, you've been going on and on for like 2 pages.
hey sift when a mod says shut up it's generally a good idea to do it
I'm aware. First one came up while I was already typing it. Second I hadn't seen it yet. I kinda intended to drop it a page ago but nope.
