Maybe I missed something, but why would that be? Is Nicalis going to be working on the game?
Yeah, they partnered up or so I heard
Why niot just put the old artstyle as a setting ?
In fact, why change at all? How is he going to make all of the cosmetic items mix up and screw with Isaac's appearance in Rebirth?
That's the most health I have ever had or seen anyone have I literally took damage on every room from Utero 2 through Sheol, and tanked Satan I still couldn't see the end of my hearts
That's incredible. Did you abuse the d20 with the nun's habit or something? Or did the game just suddenly decide to repay all the shitty runs you've had with massive amounts of soul hearts?
This game is so addictive. Farthest I've ever gotten is the boss of the womb though. :(
I have a good feeling about this run. Two floors in and I have the Mutated Spider, Max's head and Mom's Lipstick. [editline]4th December 2012[/editline] ...I say as the boss of the second floor absolutely merks me.
Ever had 8 red hearts leaving Basement I? That's the sign of a good run.
Or finding Polyphemus and end up getting a Devil room that contains Brimstone.
Not mine.
Everytime I get a Basement or Cellar XL I quit and try again, because there have been many times where I don't find a single key on the first "floor" so I want at least one free powerup. Surely I can't be the only one that does this? Jeez, I just ran into 3 XL rooms in a row, each time quitting after encountering one.
Binding of Isaac retro remake: THE RESULTS ARE IN! So the results of the poll are in, but honestly they were pretty clear from the start. currently 13,976 people took the poll. 1. How do you feel about rebirth being remade in a pixel based style? I liked it! = 37.5% Its ok = 14.6% Im fine either way = 17.4% Not sure about it = 21.1% i hate it! = 9.5% Obviously most of you really liked the idea of a retro remake, and quite a few didnt care. less than 10% hated it and the 20% who werent sure i think will be on board once we nail down the final look. 2. What styles did you like most out of the 4 images. this one was close but most of you liked 1 and 4 the most, so gba or snes style pixels but wanted the games colors and tone to look more like the original game. 3. how many hours of play time do you have clocked into the game currently? 1. 1-5 hours = 8.5% 2. 5-20 hours = 17.8% 3. 21-50 hours = 29.4% 4. 100+ hours = 30.6% 5. 200+ hours = 13.7% this was a fun one to see, a very odd ramp up in terms of play time with a 1/3rd of people who took the poll having clocked in over 100 hours into the game. knowing this the goal with the remake will be to really push extended play time for new and experienced players, i know how to do this and for those who want it i can gladly offer 100 more hours. 4. what platforms would you most want to see rebirth released on? 1. PC = 83.5% 2. Ipad = 17.2% 3.Vita = 20.8% 4. Ps3 = 28.0% 5. Xbla = 30.4 6. WiiU = 24.6% 7. 3ds 34.4% well obviously the games releasing on pc/steam thats a for sure thing, and sony is 100% on board with isaac for both vita and Ps3. like a lot of you i also NEED to play isaac on a 3ds, its my ideal platform for it and we are doing what we can to try and make this work with nintendo. i think the new look will help a lot (as well as current sales numbers) and we will for sure try again once we have a build to show them. 5. what dream feature would you want added to the remake? 9,000 of you submitted responses.. a lot were amazing suggestions like “Guns” and ”Boobs” but there were quite a few repeats of solid suggestions and here are a few of the best. 1. The ability to save and return to a play session. this is something we wanted to do in the flash version but couldn’t due to limitations, this will def. be a feature in the remake. 2. The ability to take a screen cap of your final isaac after a run. this is also something we tried to add to the flash version but couldnt and something we all want to do in the remake. 3. Co-op like we mentioned in the announcement post, we are working on local co-op for the remake, how we will do this is still in the works but i really want to support single screen drop in 2 player co-op in some way to the game for sure. 4. more content Yes, like i mentioned in the post, the remake will feature A LOT of new content that players will see and interact with from the start of the game to the end (the new final final end). we are going to pack this thing full of all the stuff we couldnt do as well as a ton of secrets that should stay buried for a while… the game will also feature 2 new characters, and with each character comes a new set of items each one unlocks by beating the now 5 final bosses. So yes, that worked out well and im happy to announce that i am on the same page as most of you, i like the idea of a retro look but want it to stay true to the original. here are the latest mockups with that feedback in mind. remember these are mockups so ignore the hud and all that, this is just done to get a good idea of what the in game art should look like. Now i know change is hard, but i want that 10% of you to remember that this is much more my baby than it is yours and i wouldnt let anything i felt would ruin the game happen. i really like the direction the graphics are heading, and i think with time Rebirth will look and feel like a totally new game but still stay true to what made isaac special. Having both art styles ISNT AN OPTION! there is going to be a lot of new content and i dont have the time to make tons of new art and animation while working on Mew-Genics and the new Super Meat Boy, trust me, youll forget allll about your issues with the graphics once you play the game late next year (we hope) more updates as they unfold! Well, I guess I won't be buying the remake then. [editline]e[/editline] Who am I kidding, of course I'm going to buy it, but I am definitely going to be grumpy about the pointless art style change the whole time!
He says the 10% who don't like it should just deal with it, but he's wrong, it's not 10%, it's 10% who HATED it. If you combine the "hated it" votes with the "it's ok" votes and the "I'm not sure" votes, you get 45% which is higher then the I love it votes, not to mention the "I don't care" votes. So the majority doesn't really love it, but he ignored that cause he wanted validation for the artstyle.
While I'm indifferent on the style change, one change that I am really liking is how he's altered the HUD to take up less screen space, instead the HUD elements will occupy the spaces in the walls that serve no purpose than to outline the rooms. More of the screen can be used for the gameplay itself. However, this does pose a problem as to where the map will be placed. If the game gets onto 3DS, then it going onto the second screen makes sense, but where will it go for all of the other platforms? I'd rather not have to pause the game to check the map, the on-the-fly ability to see EVERYTHING (aside from your stats) was very useful and feels natural after plugging over 200 hours into the game. I am going to miss the LoZ-styled HUD, don't get me wrong. I just think that this is a step in the right direction, provided that he has a solution for the map thing I mentioned.
Every time i look at this game I think of Bondage
Just like the majority, I prefer the old art style, but the pixel art is really damn good. I love the new face of the neckzombie dudes.

The Cat-o-nine-tails is the only one that could be explicitly bdsm-related, although in the context of the game's theme, it was likely used for child discipline as well.
For some reason I never bought or played the original Isaac, even though I have a big interest in it, but this time, I am definitely going to buy Rebirth when it comes out.

With all that talk of ISMBGTH, you never even bought it? That takes some love for the game, because eventually lurking in threads of games I don't own just ends with me royally pissed off at the fact that I don't own it.

Goooosh, Psycho.
I was going to link the wooden spoon in response but I think that would have messed up the joke so I didn't. OPPORTUNITY MISSED, I guess.

I know; kind of scandalous if you think about it. Looking back on it, I'm actually surprised that as one of the most frequent posters in the thread, I never bought or played the game. I don't know why I didn't, but it's apparently a thing that happened; for all my "swotting up" on the game and its craziness my main Isaac experience was watching hundreds of episodes of a Canadian lion playing it on YouTube. Really weird, but that's the scores on the doors. 180 posts (likely a fair bit more if you count the posts in the last thread) and many ideas, and I haven't played it at all; I dunno what to think about myself in that regard.
my main Isaac experience was watching hundreds of episodes of a Canadian lion playing it on YouTube.
Oh now that explains everything. Kinda odd that I didn't think about that considering I know everything about Spelunky because of NL.
I still don't see the point of the art change, but if it means more content and saving your game, then go ahead, I guess
Yeah; it's only an aesthetic thing, even though the original's graphics style was so twistedly adorable and charming. The overall theme of mutation, child abuse and religion is still there, even if the new style looks like it'd fit the graphics of a GBA or DS game.
I'll still get the game, but if the music is chiptune and shit and isn't purely what it was in the original, then I won't be getting it.
Yeah; it's one thing to change the artstyle, but the music was partially what made Isaac awesome, setting up the atmosphere of the various levels; the comparatively-gentle boops of the Basement/Cellar, the dungeon-crawly descent of the Caves/Catacombs, the sinister "shit's getting real" of the Depths/Necropolis, the surreal bubbly vibes of the Womb/Utero, and of course the dark despair and ominous chanting of Sheol and the Cathedral. Translating that amazing music to chiptune wouldn't benefit the atmosphere if you ask me.
At least we won't have to deal with the classic Nicalis problem of having the awful music before they just get some Dan B stuff since they're going straight to him this time. I'm still holding out that it'll release with only half the sound channels playing correctly.
