Took me that long to get comfortable beating Basement 2 with confidence, you're doing fine.
It took me 60 hours before I could beat the game comfortably every time I play. It's just a slog and slowly but surely everything will just click.
It took me a while to get used to the depths and the womb my first couple times playing
But once I got those down the game became pretty easy for me

No, that's one of Isaac's eyes. It'll probably function like Peep's eyes, though it might be completely different. It could be the trinket doing that or some other passive that isn't immediately evident, only time will tell.

I used to have that with Super Meat Boy. I get stuck on some level at home, then I played it at school (with a controller, yes) and I beat the level I was stuck at pretty quickly.
