This is a funny story that I can't really tell without spoiling infinite [sp]My buddy and I have had a joke going for a while that he and I are the same man from alternate universes, where we made a choice in our life, to either go full hipster or not (I'm the not)[/sp]
After I finished Infinite, I go to lunch with him and my nose starts bleeding like crazy.
I was losin' my shit.

i felt like i spent too much time in this game looking for items and shit in every nook and cranny there is. it just gets so repetitive.
I don't care what others might say, but I find infinite to be the best game I've ever played, followed by the first Bioshock, and then Bastion.
opinions, man.

My brother is convinced there's no evidence that supports the theory that [sp]Booker and Jack are the same man from alternate universes[/sp]

that's just ignoring shit put in front of your face

okay man but your favorite 3 games are 2 shooters and all of them came out in this gen?
need to expand your horizons a little bit
This is just a small touch but I really like that with this game they actually got a character to smile with their teeth showing...and it doesn't look terrible. Most games don't seem to be able to do that.
Also, the lack of any Big Daddy enemy bothered me. I love the conflict a Big Daddy arises.
Here's this creature, in a world of insanity, that doesn't give a shit about you. It thinks you're irritating, but you're not it's worry. It has to defend the girl, and as long as you don't come to close you're fine to hop along.
But to get the ADAM from them, you need to provoke them and start a fight. This, and Sander cohen, are one of the few times Jack actually makes a choice (A huge central theme yo). Is it worth it to attack it for the prize? And it's heartbreaking when you see it slump over, and the little girl is bawling her eyes out. I mean, this was her protector. And you just gunned him down.
And she's looking at you, terrified of what the man who killed her guardian is going to do.
And there is nothing more sweet than having the scary blood covered sweater wearing son of a bitch rescue her and send her to Tenenbaum.
"IT'S NOT EXACTLY THE SAME, I HATE IT" - Sardonus 2013
So my brother and I have been talking and we think we stumbled on something big.
Sort of spoilers. Definitely thematic spoilers.
[sp]Christopher Booker is the man who said there only 7 plots you can tell in fiction, pitching into the idea of infinite stories with the same constants.
Bryce DeWitt was a theoretical physicist who helped popularize and work on the multiple universe theory (read up on him a bit here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation#De_Witt_and_Graham)[/sp]
Put 'em together, like Isaac Clarke

[sp]Jack and Booker are not the same man.
The game just says that all Bioshock games follow the same structure; Man, Lighthouse, City[/sp]

uhhhh okay
Bioshock 2 was basically all the same beats as the first one but it's lumpy horse shit.
I'm not saying I hate infinite.... at all, actually, that's a pretty stupid way of looking at it.
I'm saying I missed enemies like the Big Daddies. They were unique. Infinite's design wouldn't allow for them at all though so that's why they're not in it.
Hey Sardonus
if you want a game exactly like Bioshock 1
you should just play Bioshock 1 again
Infinite isn't exactly the same and it's really dumb to critisize it for it's differences. Almost all of which were made for the better. The only thing Bioshock 1 has over Infinite is a creepier atmosphere. Both are excellent games but Infinite is a vastly improved game in every way. The narrative and gameplay are so much tighter. Playing Bioshock 1 again which I am doing, it's a lot sloppier than I remember. The story is not very well strung together, and while it serves the game fine, Infinite's storytelling is so much more improved.
And the big daddies are a fucking pain in the ass to fight too. The only reason you fight them is for the little sisters, otherwise you'd completely avoid them every time. Wheras patriots become very fun to fight once you learn how to dispatch them, and handymen provide a very doable challenge. Big daddies however, require you to grind, die over and over and return to the scene, or use most of your medkits just for one.
That's another thing infinite does better, is give actual penalties not to die, and reasons not to die. Many enemies return to full health, you lose cash. In BS1 you can literally die as many times as you want with no consequence.
As much as I like Bioshock 1, you're rose tinting it here dude if you think it's in any way a better game in any aspect, apart from it's unique atmosphere.
They took out all the stuff that didn't work so well, everything that's gone in infinite, like hacking and stuff, was for the better. In BS1 most of the game was just hacking, and it was tedious as all hell. It served no challenge and just took up too much time to hack everything.
Don't think Infinite is as good? Great. I'm sick of hearing it, especially when it's wrong. Go play Bioshock 1 again or something.

That's what I did. :v:
Maybe we're sick of hearing GOTY 20/10 when it's only April. Handymen and Patriots were a bigger pain in the ass to fight for me than Big Daddies. Once you get some research done on them they're not that bad other than the occasional Rosie.
...I think I'll just take a break from talking about Infinite for a while, we're definitely still high off the hype. As we've gone over hundreds of times, Infinite is better in aspects if you think it is. Personally, I think linear shooting with 2 guns and cover is a fucking sin against gaming and I'll take 8 weapon open levels any day of the week.
And uhh
the Big Daddies were supposed to be a huge fucking pain
that's why they guard Little Sisters
if it was easy you'd have all the adam in the world.
There's literally no difference to a Handyman or a Big Daddy since they're essentially the same thing, you die constantly fighting a handyman and grind it so basically you're just doing the opposite of me, telling me Infinite's better cause it's the shiniest new toy.
And taking out hacking entirely is not for the better, that's dumbing down the game more than it needed. Bioshock is already System Shock for Casuals so cranking it down even MORE to appeal to the shithead brogamers is just kinda painful. They should've at least kept the mechanic from BS2, having no hacking at all just seems lazy to take out an element.
No gene tonics or any form of character development as well felt lazy. In the first and second you could make special builds and specialize your character, whereas every playthrough of Infinite Booker will just be Dirk ShootEmUp
I'm not saying Bioshock was an RPG, but we had some flex room. you could build a melee powerhouse if you wanted, or a plasmid god, or in Bioshock 2 play a character who could literally only use a drill (one of the most fun challenges actually)
so... Infinite is a better game cause it has a better story?
Well that's silly. A game can't be based on just story otherwise Silent Hill 2 would be the greatest game ever made. A game has to be based on, you know, the GAME part as well, and Bioshock (the original) is just a more interesting game for me. It's got more going on, and while it's casualized to fuck and back it's at least still got roots in it's System Shock days.

Excuse me, what? Bioshock 1 had open levels? WHAT?
infinite is open, bioshock 1 is more of a corridor shooter than infinite, and is not open, at all.

They're about the same. Other than that one part in Infinite when you're [sp] going to the 3 tears [/sp] the game's pretty linear. I did realize today that you can actually go back to other decks in BS1 if you want to, as I did once I got Cohen's muse key and went back to Fort Frolic to open the chest.

This guy is right.
Still a brilliant game. Remains my favourite game despite his points. I didn't really enjoy BioShock as much.

okay you're fucking with me now
Infinite is linear as all hell you can say it's not but it is
It's open in the sense that Dead Space is open.
Sometimes there's two doors. You can go in both doors and then back down the hallway.
While Bioshock is not the same level of openness that DOOM or DN3D is, the levels are at least open ended in such that you can diddle around to your own content and scratch off objectives in the way you see fit, hopping along the way
I'm really starting to notice on FP at least, if you don't think Infinite is a 11/10 GOTYAY you must think it's a 4/10
like fuck I liked it but we're doing the same thing you did to GTAIV and Skyrim
overhyping a good game into something it's not cause it's a little more complex than what most people are used to

what the fuck? bioshock 1 is JUST as linear as infinite. they both have heaps of areas to explore that are just there and don't serve purpose other than hidden items and voxphones. it's exactly the same. the bioshock 1 world isn't any bigger or open. how can you even think that?
also the two gun thing worked perfectly, having all guns would have been stupid and way too easy. and taking cover??? that's a HUGE improvement over the first, which gave you no way of avoiding damage half the time other than killing the other guy as fast as you could while running in circles around them. actually having a cover mechanic is a great addition and balances out the difficulty. bs1s difficulty was warped as hell, giving you infinite deaths and no cover but making enemies do a lot of damage and be op. it was weird.
also all those other things you said were wrong too but i feel like you're never gonna get it because you're just living in the past here

maybe because you're seeing flaws that aren't flaws
bsi isn't perfect and it has flaws. but it aren't the things you're talking about. you're just repeating the differences between it and bioshock over and over while failing to realise those changes were made intentionally and for the better.

2 guns really didn't work perfectly at all though. For the latter half of the game I got stuck using the godawful Vox weapons because the game stopped supplying me with what I'd spent my time upgrading. They should've only had Founder guns, and instead used the assets to give them visible upgrades.
It's easy to balance the game to have 8 weapons... look at fuckin' Doom, pulled it off just fine.
The first one you didn't need to avoid damage as much cause health was abundant and you could keep them on you at all times.
And for fucks sake Infinite is the same thing, enemies do insane damage, you have infinite lives as well, the only difference is yeah now there's some things to crouch behind. There's no real penalty to dying. Oh, I lose some money. Elizabeth literally shits money and the only thing I need upgrades for is the Pistol and machine gun.
I think a lot of it was because Bioshock 1 was closer to an RPG, so unless you specced yourself right lategame you were going to struggle. You can see that happening in games like STALKER as well.
I think it would've been better if they ditched the Vox guns entirely and added more depth to the Founder's guns. That way it wouldn't be as annoying having 2 guns since you'd be able to do more with them. Instead, you get used and upgrade a bunch of Founder's guns, then they all get replaced by those crappy Vox ones and throw you off for like a third of the game.
rusty this is offtopic but your drive poster is fucking nice and I'll be buying one
but I'm still mad at you

if i died in infinite as much as i died in bioshock i would have no money left at all. meaning i couldn't buy anything i wanted. meaning there's a huge incentive not to die. when i did i reloaded the checkpoint instead of just continuing.
also as for the two guns not working for you, yeah, that's what happens when you poorly manage your guns and ammo. on my second playthrough on 1999 i knew what was up and did it a lot better than i did the first time around and always had the gun i wanted and always had ammo for it. chalking this up to you being bad, dude.
I hardly had to buy anything at all in Infinite though because it *was* easier, so the money penalty didn't do much to me.
Just completed the game, It was a great play and I'm already thinking about playing 1999 mode.
My only complaint about it were the side characters which could of been done better.
[sp]Daisy, Jeremiah Fink, and the Songbird felt like simple obstacles that had a lot of potential to be good characters but only got killed off throughout the game.[/sp]
Then again that's probably where dlc comes in.
I still managed to finish the game on Hard, so there you go.
As to being bad at modern shooters I'm willing to accept not being good at a genre I don't really like anyway.
I did feel though that I didn't need to upgrade any of my vigors, they all hit hard enough by the time I got them. I primarily used my guns over any powers.
One of infinite's flaws right there. I know you'll disagree with me, but I feel like powers weren't all that important.
They were never referenced once in the plot barring one audio diary, and they weren't really an essential game mechanic. Yes, they were helpful, definitely, but I found myself using them as more of a compliment to my guns instead of weapons. Bucking Bronco was pretty awesome though, I'll give ya that one
