and a lot of us don't hence why it should be optional not to mention CPU strain and the 99% chance that it's going to be buggy and poorly implemented
Exactly. I play other games for a challenge, Crysis 2, Dragon Age 2, etc. I play Minecraft to chill out in between games like that. That's why peaceful is an option in the settings, for people who just don't care for the survival, but love to build and explore. Minecraft is supposed to be a game to make your own fun, and a lot of fun would be ruined for a lot of people if survival based game mechanics like flooding suddenly became an issue they had to plan around.
He could always disable those in peaceful mode.
True, but everyone in this thread seems to assume that if flooding is implemented, it will happen regardless of difficulty setting. Unless some of the people railing against it like to play with enemy mobs but don't want flooding. In which case it should be an separate option of it's own. Flooding could be an unwanted game changing addition for a lot of people if it can't be turned off.
I'm going to miss making beautifully complex train stations with boosters and pressure plates and stuff. Also what's going to happen to the powered mine carts? They are already completely useless enough.
This is going to be great. I'm going to have to replace my rain noise with some nicer sounding rain, the fire to a nicer sounding fire, and change one of the disks to play some nice jazz music. DIY Classy Facepunch kit.
Pics! Was it natural or did you make it? took forever to make mine
I used the Mystical Island Map Generator

Reminds me of the good old floating maps in indev.

Also, powered rails? Does that mean no more mine cart boosters?
Flooding is far different from a creeper blowing up your house. A creeper explodes near you, which makes you partly responsible. A flood you can't prevent. With that said, it would be annoying to have to unflood your shit again and again. Not challenging, just plain annoying. A challenge is a test of skill, removing water from a room is just piss.
There's no reason Mojang couldn't make it so that the water "evaporates" after a while. It would take some coding, but Notch has done harder stuff.
There's no reason Mojang couldn't make it so that the water "evaporates" after a while. Snow and rain should force fog if you have it off and make fog darker, to add more atmosphere.
Oh my god I need to use this. Reminds me of the good old floating maps in indev.
The generator crashes a good 90% of the time so don't get frustrated if you wait for an hour only to have it dick up
The generator crashes a good 90% of the time so don't get frustrated if you wait for an hour only to have it dick up
Did you happen to back up the map when it finally finished? Maybe you could upload it for us.
Did you happen to back up the map when it finally finished? Maybe you could upload it for us.
Nah, I didn't. But if I generate any other ones I'll remember to do that.
It's the aether! Also, powered rails? Does that mean no more mine cart boosters?
Dude, why are you using my avatar?
Lighting made a block of fire when it struck in the video... Everything I make is made of planks, I pray it cannot ignite wood...
Lighting made a block of fire when it struck in the video... Everything I make is made of planks, I pray it cannot ignite wood...
The rain douses it right away. The only fire the rain doesn't put out is burning netherrack, apparently. Too lazy to dig up quotes, it was on Notch's twitter somewhere, I believe.
I'd like there to be like, a two day thunderstorm. That would be hardcore.
Dude, why are you using my avatar?
Oh, you made that?
Oh, you made that?
Nope, but it's pretty much an unwritten forum rule to not snag avatars of other people. It's confusing when multiple people use the same one. I've been using it since the day I registered here.
might be a rail that gives redstone power when a cart runs over it. Would be excelent to be honest
hah, called it and it was correct [editline]13th April 2011[/editline] Flooding?
FUCK
Meh, the weather changes way to abruptly for my liking.
I'm pretty excited for this update. [editline]13th April 2011[/editline]
hah, called it and it was correct [editline]13th April 2011[/editline] Flooding?
FUCK

Flooding would be fucking awesome....if it was rare.
Meh, the weather changes way to abruptly for my liking.
Notch modified it for the purpose of the video.
Snow and rain should force fog if you have it off and make fog darker, to add more atmosphere.
Notch should improve fog and add it as a real weather effect. Like having it slowly fade in along with different distances. I wish weather was more area/biome specific, but I think Notch said it was global.
Notch should improve fog and add it as a real weather effect. Like having it slowly fade in along with different distances. I wish weather was more area/biome specific, but I think Notch said it was global.
Global but snow/rain is more likely in certain biomes.
Global but snow/rain is more likely in certain biomes.
From what I saw, when there's weather, it will snow in snowy biomes and rain in rainy ones and do nothing in desert ones.
I wonder how strong booster tracks are, probably not THAT strong, or they would require expensive materials (iron block, gold?) [editline]13th April 2011[/editline] I wonder if it would be today, if it's going to be on friday It still feels a bit late. Especially since I believe they got evrything done already.
