I hope they use gold simply because I want for there to be a use for gold.

I agree with ya. I've got almost a stack of golden ore. I didn't even bother smelting it - can't use it for anything other than a watch.
Booster tracks will probably use gold. Powered tracks should use redstone.
jeb confirmed they will be golden.

That's the same thing.
Damn, minecraft is advancing so slow... I might as well give up on seeing it at the point I am waiting for in the near future.
Because what I want more than anything is that multiplayer will be so advances that it can be called something like a First person multiplayer RTS. Where every player has to work together to build an empire against a competing team. Everyone must take a role in this micro-society... Farmers, bakers, builders. Resources should be given a much bigger role by making them essential for the creation of siege weapons, stronger defense walls and other war machinery. You have to mass-produce Items to get ready for war or to be prepared for siege or being besieged and also gather treasures to unlock specials for your tribe, build rare Items or trade with friendly cultures. And the team with the best working society will stand victorious. My dream game.
Lightning should strike really high-up areas, such as mountains or extremely tall cliffs/trees. Lightning would also be able to burn away grass and set wood alight.
I agree with everything except setting trees on fire. That would be a massive bother, constantly seeing the woods on fire.

yeah well your dream game isn't minecraft now is it
Notch should have just said that 1.5 was coming out in three weeks instead of one. That way it would give them enough time to work on it so it could be done on time and, hell, if they got it done early we could say "Oh wow, good job guys, you're working faster than usual!" He hurts himself every time he says a date and doesn't deliver on time.

Plus, people would stay happier if an update was released a "week early".

minecraft will never be like that and your idea is dumb
minecraft will never be like that and your idea is dumb
Why? All you need is teams ,Player damage and a few specific items. Could be a relatively simple mod.

If someone wanted such a mod, it would've been made already.
And by the way - the space is put after the comma, not before it.

Have you ever heard of a typo?
Okay, didn't think so either.
Not big surprise that the release was delayed.
:10bux: it's delayed for 3 weeks, notch goes on a vacation, "works" on it, releases completely different features, vacation, 11/11/11
PART 1 IS COMING TRUE.
Does anyone else who was read the Eragon (Inheritance) Series think that Alagaesia would be a kickass map?
There's no reason Mojang couldn't make it so that the water "evaporates" after a while. It would take some coding, but Notch has done harder stuff.
Actually, it wouldn't take much of any coding.
Water already evaporates in the nether, so they could just slightly modify that code.

He'd have to set up specific rules for where water should form in rain and what water should evaporate in harsh sunlight though. One of the main issues I could see is how it would determine what's a ditch that should be filled with water during rain, and what is higher ground. During the evaporation process it'll have to figure out the same thing ( though I assume it would be much easier, just start erasing everything above sea level from the top down). It's not impossible, but likewise I don't think it's as easy as you imply it is.
How to do puddles.
1: Flows don't despawn without a source block in the rain. So if you have a source block and some flow, and you remove the source block while it's raining, you're left with a string of smallest-height static flows. Puddles, essentially.
2: Spawn flows randomly/in depressions when it rains. As soon as the rain ends and the normal flow code kicks back in, they'll dissolve.
How about a water block the size of a stone slab? Then goes away a few minutes after it stops raining.

If anything this is the best way to do puddles. other wise there should be no flooding of any sort.
Did you happen to back up the map when it finally finished? Maybe you could upload it for us.
As promised, I generated another one. Island size and density is similar to the screenshots I posted earlier. Map size is 66.7MB, download size is 18MB. You'll need something that can open .7z files. (I recommend 7-Zip)

Flooding?
FUCK
Holy fuck how did you make that?
The water being that high or his base?
Holy fuck how did you make that?
far right under the logs
Actually, it wouldn't take much of any coding.

Water doesn't evaporate in the nether, you just can't place it with a bucket.
If you place water with cheated water blocks it behaves just like normal water.
Rain's "flooding" could basically create small water sources randomly on blocks that it hits, which disappear in a second, so they do a little flow that disappears as it moves. Like placing a water block and removing it right after, the water flows down while disappearing at the spots it's already passed.

but that'd fuck up torches.
I hope there is a possibility that thunderstorms and snowstorms might last for entire minecraft days, maybe even weeks.
It'd be cool if there were seasons (to an extent, obviously each one should be shorter than 90 in-game days, maybe something like 10 to 15) and, during heavy snowstorms, snow could accumulate, block doors, slowly remove health (1/2 a heart every 30 seconds outside?), and reduce visibility to nearly zero.. Oh god, that'd be fun on multiplayer if everybody was stranded indoors.
[editline]14th April 2011[/editline]
I just want to see snow in forest biomes, I never play in snow biomes.
I want to see the floods on the swamp biomes. Make jambalaya on my old house.
Fuck yeah
