Nevermind, WHAT THE FUCK AM I talking I've played most of these games. They are certainly not a bad investment, they are pretty good for being indie, hell better than Homefront.
Like 8 hours before the actual release. And knowing Valve I wouldn't be too surprised if technical difficulties postpone the release a few hours later.
8 hours is very significant for a lot of timezones (e.g. mine)
I still only have 1 potato V:v:V
8 hours is very significant for a lot of timezones (e.g. mine)
I agree, but it doesn't worth the effort people put it this event.
Holidays in Australia couldn't come at a better time
What's your source?
Steam.
Why are you losing respect for Valve? They haven't done anything wrong, they gave the community a chance to pull together and release a game early.
That is a very positive way of seeing this event. Yes, Portal 2 will be released earlier by 5-7 hours. However, for most people that will not mean anything at all. It will be in the middle of the night for PST and in the middle of work/school/university for most of the GMT zones. In the end a lot of the people who participated will not play it a second earlier now.
I have put a lot of my free time into the ARG during the last two weeks and I must admit I enjoyed the majority of it. However, the current event has been a disappointment in the first place (a countdown to a countdown?) and turns out to be surprisingly poorly thought out as well. So one of the points is to support indie devs by encouraging people to buy their games? Awesome! I can agree with that! But wait ... people buying those games actually slows down our progress? Yeah, I can see that being a good idea ... good job Valve.
After two weeks of playing a kind of confusing and disorganized but challenging, innovative and very amusing ARG, this event just seems like it has been planned in a couple of minutes and that's just disappointing to some of us.
Also, there is very good reason to believe the whole event or at least parts of it were rigged in some way. Valve has done so before (Golden Wrench). We have been slightly losing momentum for days despite significantly increasing the supposed multiplier and the graph that has been posted here a number of times (http://cpucount.zapto.org/) seems to imply it is happening again.

You aren't making much sense at all.
I guess you just don't want to get me, do you? My first response to his screenshot came off as a bit harsh so not hard feelings for trying to make me look like an idiot. But, please feel free to explain me why there should be more potatoes gained per hour if cpus are getting overclocked. Because that is exactly what he implied. I am fully aware that more potatoes could mean overclocking is getting activated (though that would not have made any sense at the given potato count and remains very unlikely at this point), but that is just not what he said.
Also, if I am wrong and "dumb", why does he remain to be the only one to mention it for two hours. No one else mentioned anything, there has been no word on the wiki ...
I, for one hope for technical delays so I can be there when it's actually released. I'm not getting up at 6:30am just to see a game be released. I would have preferred the original time of 3pm.

I wasn't aware not playing the game the minute it launches was such a large deal. I mean, I guess that's what midnight releases are for, but I seriously can't see why it's more convenient for you to twiddle your thumbs until 3pm instead of waking up and playing it on your own time.

I've been there for every Valve release since The Orange Box, I guess I'm a dedicated fan who likes to be there at game releases. Oh well, I guess I'll miss this one.
This is released just around the time I wake up in the morning at the moment :)

With a game like Portal 2, you're going to get spoilers thrown at you from every direction once the ones starting to play at the release have finished the game.
Or at least I think that might happen - remember "Still Alive"?

On another note, you can just sign off friends and not browse forums until you've finished the game.

That editline is what I assumed would happen. Naturally if the game is unlocked my first thought wouldn't be "I SHOULD GO ON FACEPUNCH AND SEE WHAT THEY'RE DISCUSSING."

Basically what I'm doing, I'm not going on any site whatsoever until I've beaten both campaigns.
Okay so how many hours in total have we shaved off?
Well, I mean, there's really no point to it. We get the game a few hours early on a day when most people have work/school, and when said people would actually have been asleep anyway. It's going to be as if nothing has happened. Why give us the opportunity to release something early, if that early release makes no odds? Even a day early would be a nice surprise!
I hope we get 500,000 potatoes and something crazy does happen, but it'll probably come too late, considering how much the rate of potatoes has slowed down.
50,000 needed people.
There was no point what so ever to the Wardens Quest event two years ago, but i enjoyed it heaps. It's not about winning or losing, it's about being part of something special. If we had some event like these for more games, gaming would be so much more awesome and would have so much more defining moments.
Besides, all of Europe is on their holiday as we speak. Timing's perfect for this. You guys need to look at this in a differen't way. You all behave as if someone promised you an early release. No one did. They just gave a community a chance to unite and get the game released early. It's just not going as well as it should have. Gamers are incapable of uniting it seems. Too busy waving about their entitlements.
[sp]and generalizing[/sp]
Thank god, the time's going up. I think I could probably get up at 7-8am no problem. :buddy:
Okay so how many hours in total have we shaved off?
Five and a half hours, I think.
[editline]18th April 2011[/editline]
The original release was to be at 15:00 GMT, currently it's going for 9:30 GMT.
Okay so how many hours in total have we shaved off?
About 5.
[editline]18th April 2011[/editline]
:ninja:'d.
So if I did this correctly, GLaDOS thinks we're getting the game at 4 AM, and the script predicts 1 AM. Not bad.

I'm actually glad, I'm doing a lot of stuff today
Wait, Audiosurf isn't our main focus? I thought it was next.
Wait, Audiosurf isn't our main focus? I thought it was next.
I thought it was too, but somebody thought it'd be better to do the Ball.
Hoping that gamers play the shit out of everything today to get it released tonight!
...I can hope.
I cant contribute due to no funds to buy the games unfortunately.
If you're going to bitch about buying the potato sack, think about this for a second-
Who's more foolish, the fool or the fool who payed 39$ to TRY and get a god damn game to be released JUST 2 DAYS EARLY.

No matter how you put it, we got tricked by valve in thinking the ARG would have a nice ending, with a rainbow at the end.
All we got was a horse-kick to the stomach.

Nobody "tricked" you. You chose to buy a package that is worth 39$ to try this shit. I didn't. You know why? Because it didn't matter. It's just a game, I can fucking wait.
Stop being such a manchild and stop pretending as if this ARG meant anything more than an online game.
What if something extra happens once this thing is completed? Some extra maps for Portal 2, maybe some info on another Valve game.
One can hope... :unsmith:

Good for you.
Does the timer go UP every time I look at it or is my mind playing tricks with me?
so umm.. it's not gonna release any early?
or what? despite all your potato efforts? :v:
so.. tomorrow.
