No it hasn't, the potatoes are a MULTIPLIER. They MULTIPLY the amount of cpu's that are active and give a speed boost.

How can you be sure? As far as I know, we have no clue as to what the potatoes do.
You can check the CPUs with the Steam Player stats.

You can easily do it by changing some files when taking a steam screenshot
Just give it try. Contact as much people that idle as you can, and tell them to shut it down. Lower the counts, and see what happens.

Grow up, this ARG is fucking amazing and Valve executed it very well for the most part. Its not like they could beta test such a large scale event. Not to mention the indie games are great and made by great developers.
