I really wish it came with a trailer explaining how the system works... Cave Johnson here This is GLaDOS, short for Genetic Lifeform an- oh I don't know ask the people over in R&D She is a highly intelligent computer AI capable of running 400,000 calculations pre-nanominute Bam I just made that up! Now how does she do it? Well the secret is in her power source, raw computing power and potatoes! Yes the mighty spud, harvested from the ground at the Aperture Science Mega Farm, also home to the would's only giant chickens Now these potatoes might look harmless but get enough of them and bam she powers up No need for expensive dark matter or whatever Black Mesa uses Now to power her up just get your computer and grab a spud So what are you waiting for? Get playing! Cave Johnson we're done here
Just try and touch that potato! HA! Your funeral!
Help ? Why not ? Yeah, I'm trying to helping, but that's the only game from Potato Sack that I have. Edit: I know it won't change anything, also, wasn't proposital, it just opened 6 instances of the game somehow, accidentally...
Idling doesn't work and you can only do it in 1 game at a time apparently gj
Just try and touch that potato! HA! Your funeral!
That's 65 more potato,per potato!
Idling doesn't work and you can only do it in 1 game at a time apparently gj
proof?
Help ? Why not ? Yeah, I'm trying to helping, but that's the only game from Potato Sack that I have.
Have fun playing all of those at once.
how would they know that we are actually playing? [editline]15th April 2011[/editline] mah automerge
if it does come out early on steam do i still have till wait till tuesday if i preordered at gamestop? (i couldn't get my debit card to work on steam fml)
If it does end up coming out by sunday night, I'm having my mom drive me to gamestop, showing them proof that it's out, and demanding they give me my preorder.
If it does end up coming out by sunday night, I'm having my mom drive me to gamestop, showing them proof that it's out, and demanding they give me my preorder.
Ever considered the posibility they might release the Digital version but not the Retail? (Which is what will probably happen, sorry but Valve does own steam afterall)
RPS seems to have some more specifics, http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/15/glados-countdown-is-almost-up/
Remember the Potato Sack? GlaDOS is apparently drawing “power” from computers playing games in the potato sack. For every collective 48 hours for one particular game, that game’s “power bar” goes up by 1%. And Steam needs to record you actually playing the game – just leaving something idling in the background does not contribute. The potatoes we all frantically collected can still be collected – in fact, you are a major contributor if you even collect one potato in one game. Potatoes multiply that game’s particular power, so if, say, you gathered 5 potatoes in Audiosurf and one in Bit.TRIP BEAT, you’d be multiplying EVERYONE’s efforts in Audiosurf by 6x and BIT.TRIP BEAT by 2x. Some people seem to think that launching multiple games is a good idea. This is in fact, not helping at all, because Steam only records keyboard activity in games launched through Steam, not through external launching.”
So just to clarify its based on every collective 48 hours spent actually playing the game so idling does nothing and every potato multiplies everyones cpu strength
but how does it know weather we are actually playing or not?
but how does it know weather we are actually playing or not?
Probably.
but how does it know weather we are actually playing or not?
I reckon it's like being auto kicked off a server because there hasn't been any keyboard/mouse input for x amount of time.
Seems like the red bars next to the games don't show how many CPUs there are, but rather it's computing something. I have a feeling if that bar gets to the end, it'll take away a big chunk of time. Saw an animated version, The Wonderful End of the World bar got a huge boost when a thousand people got to it, but it keeps going and going at just about the same rate even when it's only getting a few hundred people. How late am I?
Probably.
thats very helpful. i asked how they knew we are playing. not if they knew. [editline]15th April 2011[/editline]
I reckon it's like being auto kicked off a server because there hasn't been any keyboard/mouse input for x amount of time.
ok that makes sense :v:
By detecting your keyboard strokes, so go in game, and move a key like once every 15 minutes.
RPS seems to have some more specifics, http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/15/glados-countdown-is-almost-up/ So just to clarify its based on every collective 48 hours spent actually playing the game so idling does nothing and every potato multiplies everyones cpu strength
I wouldn't trust RPS considering they're saying only actual gameplay counts when it's false
I'm guessing that the percentage is going to increase at a flat rate for now, just like the timer - when a game's bar fills completely, I'm guessing the percentage will jump a bit, and the timer go down. The more bars we fill, the quicker we get the game, I would say.
I would help, but I don't have the games.
Disregard what I said, apparently you are allowed to idle... (Confliciting information BLARGHH!!!!!)
Someone upload the modified "Icy_murderous_I" so i can get a potato :)
So wait.. Does idling actually work, or do we need to perfom certain tasks? I tried to die 11 times on Super Meat Boy in that certain level, but nothing happened.
Why is TWEOTW's bar going up so fast? Does it have really easy to get potatoes or something?
I wish I had some spare change to buy Killing Floor :arghfist::saddowns:
Go here for Potatoes People http://valvearg.com/wiki/Potato_Sources
I wish I had some spare change to buy Killing Floor :arghfist::saddowns:
I have a spare key add me if you want it.
I tried to idle in Audiosurf but my computer BSOD'd due to a power failure, probably because my PSU doesn't supply enough power.
I'm going to help you guys, even though I don't have Portal 2.
I'm going to help you guys, even though I don't have Portal 2.
Wow! Thanks Mister Wait what am I saying!? I'm on holiday still hoping for it to be delayed again...
Each game in The Potato Sack has received a massive Portal-themed update, making a collection of 13 hit indie games even better
What about SMB?
