Is Starbound going to have better netcode than Terraria? In Terraria, difficult combat was almost impossible in multiplayer because of all the enemy teleporting.
Here's what they have said about servers:
The entire universe of experiences will be available in both Single player and Multi-player.
Servers will be able to hold as many players as it can based on its power, and internet speed.
Character saves that are transferable from "local to server" and visa versa are planned and will be limited only by the choice of the server host. (New chars only, by item level etc.) "Think Neverwinter Nights" - Tiy
Servers can be launched from a dedicated server executable, but there may also be the option to launch the server from within the game client itself.
The games current net-code is already working, being called "smooth and seamless." - Rho
Server to Server portals to allow players to server hop mid-play are planned, but not set in stone.
Launching and joining LAN games will be relatively easy.
Players on a server are not required to be on the same planet at the same time, and may go off and explore different planets.

Hope it will be easier to play multiplayer. Most of time I couldn't do it in Terraria.
Made a human btw :

Most of the people couldn't even play multiplayer in Terraria without Hamachi or similar, including me and all my friends.

Would hamachi even help? It's doesn't exactly lower your ping or anything. Though who knows.. The horrors i've seen in terraria's (decompiled though) source code.
I actually managed to run a Tshock server pretty easily from my desktop without having to use Hamachi with little to no issues.
Guess it depends on the computers used, and the players' and hoster's internet.
And whether the code Gods are merciful that day.

If anything it could raise it. I've followed some traceroutes from someone who was having major connection lag through Hamachi and it must of went through like 30-40 different servers scattered around the US.
from what i've gathered when hamachi was popular amongst terraria players, its more or less the lazy mans port forwarding.
yeah
actual portforwarding and proper network performance
or hamachi
pick one
I could never get a Hamachi server to work, so I just set up a Tshock server whenever me and my friends wanted to play. It was a lot easier than messing about with Hamachi, as I could start up the server straight from a .bat file.
I can't port forward due to parents changing the username/password you use to be able to get access to the whole port page thing. And they forgot it.
I can't port forward because there are no ports to begin with.
It is defined as "applications" instead of ports :v:

You could always reset your router, though not sure how proficient you are in setting it up again.
I can't portforward because my settings automatically reset. Quite unpleasant, spending an hour wondering what I was doing wrong.
port forwarding to make terraria servers was hilariously easy once I figured out how to do it
I only ever played Terraria with friends that were in my house so I never had a big deal with it.
Only think I played online twice, both with hamachi.

I only had to port forward.
Never had a single problem with hosting in Terraria.
made a bird dude:
made an apex and a human, not sure which i prefer

i think i'll probably end up playing a human and finding an apex dude who's taken a vow to terrorize tourists in his nothing and then just trade for his clothes :v:
I hope Avian belly color will be changeable in the game. In the editor it's not but NPCs have had varying colorations.

is that jon jafari
...holy shit
it might as well be
screw that, is that apex guybrush?
Does anyone know all of the easter eggs that have been found so far for the character creator?
"IronEagle" for Avian armor and "IFoundAGlitch" for Glitch armor.

I keep visiting this thread occasionally to see if there's any news, didn't realize there was a character creator!

Of course I manage to make the most generic looking person ever!
I keep visiting this thread occasionally to see if there's any news,
There's your problem, chief.
But it sounds like the game is like 95% complete. Everything else that they're doing is just.. like..
GOD DAMN IT THAT SINGLE PIXEL ON A STAR SYSTEM 500,000 LIGHTYEARS AWAY THAT NO ONE WILL EVEN BAT AN EYE AT IS JUST SLIGHTLY OFF CENTER.
DELAY THE GAME ANOTHER MONTH, WE'VE GOTTA SET THIS SHIT RIGHT.
I don't mind waiting, as it gives me time to save up money to buy it. I mean if it came out now I wouldn't be able to get it anyways.

You need to save up 15 dollars?
