Starbound V2 - where you go to make dumb posts Ah fuck
Starbound V2 - Much more than Terraria in space
Whenever I tell people about this game, I still just simply say "It's like Terraria but in space"
You're a nintendo? How?
Oops. It looks like I a word.
Oops. It looks like I a word.
so first you're a nintendo, and now you're a word make up your GODDAMN mind
So one of my best friends, who was following this game with me since march recently decided that he doesn't want to talk to me anymore.. I've literally visited this thread every day (More than once a day) since the first page of the V1 thread and I don't know why anymore :/ So now I want to know if this game would be really worth it just playing by myself. Most of the fun seems to come from playing it with friends..
Why don't you grow up and ask your friend why he/she has stopped talking to you? Or just play by yourself. I have literally 25 friends I know in person that will be getting this game when it comes out, and I will probably be playing this game by myself for the first week or so before I join their server. I disagree that most of the fun comes from playing with friends. The game isn't like borderlands, or an mmo where each character lends itself to social interactions and hilarious hijinks, at least not to me it doesn't. The beauty of this game lies in pure, unadulterated exploration, and since my friends aren't really the role playing type, I would rather explore things in my own order at my own pace. The alternative is constantly competing with them to get to everything first. Trust me, you will probably have fun in this game with or without other people tagging along.
If it's anything like Terraria most of the fun will be playing multiplayer with friends.
If it's anything like Terraria most of the fun will be playing multiplayer with friends.
I for one had just as much fun with it either way. Sure, some of the bosses would be better when fought with a group, though.
I was only able to defeat the wall of flesh once by myself.
I have never played MP Terraria, and I honestly don't feel like I'm missing out.
If it's anything like Terraria most of the fun will be playing multiplayer with friends.
Every game is more fun playing it with friends though.
Why don't you grow up
Seriously?
Seriously?
He has a point. If you want to know why someone doesn't like you, you have no way to find out other than asking them. Relationships require communication.
I was only able to defeat the wall of flesh once by myself.
It's almost a requirement that you need a decent gun or spell as well as preparing the landscape for the fight and/or a bunch of obsidian skin/waterwalking potions. I normally used a sunfury but in singleplayer that's not terribly viable unless you're super careful. And hard mode makes melee weapons a lot less viable as well. Especially flails since the dao of pow's special ability is annoying as hell. Makes it take about 5x as long to kill an enemy unless you pin it against a wall.
Every game is more fun playing it with friends though.
Not all games are. Although that's a very subjective thing. I prefer most of my games singleplayer. Games like Terraria though are the exception for me. It's fun in singleplayer but more fun in multiplayer.
Seriously?
If you only got that far in my post, then yeah sure I guess. I don't know about you, but if my 'best friend' suddenly stops communicating with me, I will ask him/her whats up. I don't sullenly resign myself to thinking they "don't want to talk to me anymore". That's just childish and silly. [editline]31st March 2013[/editline]
I was only able to defeat the wall of flesh once by myself.
As someone else mentioned, all you really needed was decent armor, some time preparing the landscape, and in my case a hellfire pistol or whatever. All of which is fairly easy to get on your own.
I never really found the wall of flesh to be terribly hard. and i didn't bother to prepare the landscape, half the fun is running away and if you just make the lava solid or something silly like that, that whole aspect of the boss is gone.
I remember the first time we accidentally summoned it. We didn't even know it existed. We had a house and all that in the underworld that we used as an exploration base, with a shaft that went right to our village. In the base, to the far left was a chest full of voodoo dolls we'd throw into the lava sometimes because suddenly getting the "X WAS SLAIN" was hilarious to us. Anyways we got a few more dolls from an exploration we did after the game updated, so we threw one into the lava, and suddenly the wall of flesh comes for us. It was terrifying.
I remember rearranging my inventory too close to lava and accidentally tossing my voodoo doll into it before we were all ready for the fight. In fact I was the only one down there. Didn't end well. :v:
and i didn't bother to prepare the landscape, half the fun is running away and if you just make the lava solid or something silly like that, that whole aspect of the boss is gone.
Part of the game is the whole part where you can change the terrain.
I never found Wall of Flesh difficult, just a bit tedious. My approach to it from the very start was to use a truckload of explosives, it just took a lot of trial and error to find out how much explosives will hit his damage cap.
I just equipped meteorite armor and spammed spacegun. I beat all the other bosses in pretty much the same way. High damage output, decent rate of fire, and with meteorite armor, infinite ammo.
Would be awesome if they use this as the underground Theme for the Desert. Catchy part begins at 1:50

Bulldozing your way through something that may have an actual fucking reason is a great way to lose your best friend. What's more, losing your best friend isn't just a 'whatever' moment, it's not a potential scenario you just shrug off. That person isn't your best friend just because they're not a douche, there's a high level of trust and genuine care, and losing them is a very scary prospect.

It's possible that he lives somewhere else, told him he didn't want to talk anymore, or was an online friend. We don't know enough to judge him at this point, and that wasn't the main point of his post.
When is this game coming out?

The situation isn't black and white. The first step to dealing with it is. Either deal with it and ask the friend what's up, or don't deal with it, do nothing, and just let the friendship die.
When is this game coming out?
Nobody knows. But it's probably sometime this year.
When is this game coming out?
Sometime between now and never.

And I agree with him honestly. I've had a number of people who would just stop being friends with someone and would flat out give up rather than even attempting to figure out what was wrong.
When is this game coming out?
It was confirmed on twitter to be released this year, i'd say around summer but probably later than that, remember how everyone was expecting december 2012 as a release date?

You stop all communication. That's a surefire way to end things. If they are your best friend, then how is it douchebag like to, I don't know; try to figure things out? If you have relationships that are so utterly and fruitlessly fragile that you need to tiptoe around the situation instead of just simply initiating communication, then god damn. In my opinion something like that would be much more stress and trouble than it's worth. I think we're (mostly) all old enough to have lost friends before for one reason or another and have a fairly good understanding of how friendships work. In my experience, my relationships with my best friends are pretty durable. We could go weeks or months without talking to one another due to work, or just because we don't feel like it and then resume without any effort. It really isn't that hard a thing to maintain, unless you just fold up your arms and give up. If you lose a friend, even a best friend it isn't the end of the world, just pick yourself up and make some new friends. You can call that douchey if you want, but I prefer to think of having a thick skin as an advantage, and helps me find new people and new interests. I would much rather have that than crippling communication or taking extra special precautions to dance around issues better openly discussed. Anyway, that's all I'm going to say on the matter. I didn't anticipate someone to get so up in arms and offensive over what I think is pretty basic advice.
