Many of these seem to just need finishing touches though.
I loved it as it gave an actualy incentive to build a somewhat functional base, and I think it was too easy as they needed nothing but a box with a table and a chair.
We're supposed to have crew in some form regardless of what the roadmap does not say about them, but that's all we know.
By the way the average of progress is about 70% if I calculated it right.
Well, at first I liked having to build rooms for NPCs, but then I realized whenever I started a new world any progress that I'd WANT to make has to be brought to a screeching halt while I hammer out a new room for some prick arms dealer or merchant, and building in Terraria is a painful process seeing as your character has a reach of... what? 4 tiles? Doesn't help the tiles are so tiny to begin with and it made mining a pixel hunt at times.
To be honest building a house for an NPC in Starbound would probably be a FAR less painful process seeing as building is faster and you have an impressive reach. But if they axe it entirely I'm not going to complain, it means I can just build stuff for myself without needing to worry about coming home to find some shmuck moved in.
Unless I'm playing multiplayer, I've came back to find my room barred with fucking demonite in Terraria before. My friends are dicks.
Actually if you pay attention to Star Trek phasers they're the type I'm talking about. Just in the shows and movies they tend to be fired in short bursts because they're fairly powerful in the series. The only times I can think of where they used sustained bursts were occasions when they needed to destroy sections of something or heat something up rather than using them as weapons. But they do actually function the way I was talking about.
Come on man, you shot a guy in the chest with a short burst from a phaser and he was space dust in the space wind.

Doesn't really change the fact that it's not how lasers work in Starbound. :v:

They're still just bullets with a different sprite.

haven't seen this one, dunno if it's new or not
Those planets and plants look fantastic, but god damn that sword looks retarded. The blade alone almost covers up the entire character in both width and height.
Hate that style of exaggerated, inflated weaponry. Oh well, I will just throw every single one I find into lava or bury it or something.

You've just given me a great idea.

The energy weapons in Starbound seem to be of the blaster variety, firing individual high power (plasma?) projectiles. In Star Trek they were particle beams and fired in continuous beams of particles, if you'll forgive the redundancy.

Starbound uses Star Wars rules, not Star Trek rules. Or Battlestar rules.
It could be Stargate rules.
Stars.

Yeah, I know. I'm saying that it should be that way is all. It would make an actual difference between choosing a laser weapon versus a projectile weapon.
fuck i get more hyped by the day with this game
I am perfectly happy with this. I got real sick of building houses for those lazy fuckers in Terraria.
The least they could do is pay some fucking rent. Come on, I'm singlehandedly defending you fuckers from goblins and shit.

if i ever become a game dev, every pre-release image is going to have hidden meanings up the ass.
if i ever become a game dev, every pre-release image is going to have hidden meanings up the ass.
If I ever become a game dev all the pre-release images for games will have suggestive but inaccurate hidden meanings until the final game I release which will be 100% completely accurate just to throw people for a loop.

I'd hide things that have some kind of (pointless) meaning that you'd only find out when you actually play the game. Like the total number of trees in the game or the size of a bosses sprite or something
Looking at the roadmap, I am surprised it is still a 2013 release date.
Lots and lots of stuff seems unfinished.
Some guy on the SB Forums calculated that the game's about 70% complete based off of averaging out all of the percentages. Don't fret!

Hey wait a second aren't you the guy helping write lore for Starbound?

I am the lore master. Hello!
Hi. Nice work on the lore so far, I liked that little sample we got in the chronicle.

Cheers, I appreciate it! There might be some more coming in the next chronicle :)

Inspired me to quickly shop something together as well.

Just a quick shop of the logo in the OP.
And a slightly fixed one (I hope).

So, which one would you prefer to have in the OP, and who should make this group?
Maybe use Twistshock's logo on OHNOES' image?
Twistshock's as the thread banner and OHNOES' as the steam group image.
I prefer Twistshocks image as a thread banner.
Helping?
I am the lore master. Hello!
Oh cool, the other devs like tiy must really like your help in coming up with neat stories about the florans and robots and things like that. lol.
But on a more serious note; the human lore is going to be really cool, right? Not meaning offense, but right now it looks like the humans just sort of woke up one day and decided it was best to just sort of wander the cosmos in casual clothing and fedoras. Given how cool/interesting the other species lore seems, I just hoped the humans had a little more ....structure to their appearance.
Whoa wait a second, you can make your character wear a fedora? Oh god I hope Tiy removes it, no man, even a digital pixely one, should have to go through wearing fedora.
[editline]4th April 2013[/editline]
now i can make the neckbeard character of my dreams though

shaddap
Fedoras can look pretty fucking awesome if you do it right, like Indiana Jones or half the film noir detective type characters.
Just 'cause a bunch of neckbeards decided to use them and look absolutely horrid in them doesn't mean the fedoras are to blame.
oh crap i've spent the last week or so playing the new monster hunter game, i've missed soooo much happening!
