They flaunt it.
They remind me a lot of the League of Legends forums. They're extremely uncivilized, almost like animals. The difference is that Starbound forums are very welcoming and kind towards everyone. I haven't seen any hostility between users on there, at least not yet.

Honestly, your old idea, despite being pretty rad, wouldn't have been put into the game because it'd be a pain in the ass to implement. Also I doubt the devs have even seen it, let alone considered it.

Judging from the sort of clothes they wear in the editor, the hylotl look heavily influenced by oriental culture and/or samurai culture
The florans look like the only race that has no real culture, being cannibalistic tribesman they dont really have any sort of connection like the wild west novakids or the aztec avians do, arguably the apex aren't heavily inspired either but i've always gotten a north korean sort of vibe from them, with the "OBEY" and "BIG APE IS ALL SEEING" posters and whatnot

I think I remember it, the title screen was going to be a silhouette standing on a beach and when you a create a new character, the silhouette comes forward and becomes your character, then an intro plays where your planet's getting destroyed and you flee to a ship
