I never bought the game and I don't like Bioshock to begin with. I already said that
I don't support bullshit DLC like this.
BF2-2142 had it right, you download it in the patches and you can use the kits if they're from fallen enemies (or if a mod unlocks them) but you have to buy the expansion to unlock it.
If you didn't buy the game then why should you care at ALL? I'm speaking in general to people who own it and are raging. The problem is when people pay 60$ they expect EVERYTHING that is going to come out to be handed to them on a silver platter and that's not how it works. Some people are able to afford it and will buy it. Some can and don't care for it. Others cannot afford it and want it. Those are the people who cry about it. Whine all you want but nothing is going to change besides you venting anger.
For anyone defending the price. It's 5 bucks now. It used to be years ago that you'd get content later on without having to worry about paying. Now DLC is the norm. Soon we'll have half the game as DLC.

Overly dramatic, much? 5$ Is pretty fair price for about an hour long experience. You knew going into this game that there would be priced DLC. Does it matter how it comes out? In the end you can get it and enjoy it or avoid it! You still got the main piece of the pie, the core game.
I am also speaking in general, I live with my poor family and go to high-school I have no job and the only money I get is $2.50 for lunch. :smug:
Perhaps if your parents were to learn the value of the single dollar bill and stop spending frivolously you wouldn't be poor. But being poor also is a reason for you to be biased in regards to a DLC that costs $5, which is pocket change.
You're like that kid the Marquis runs over in a tale of two cities. You're poor, you're getting in the way of people with money. You're also dead so you probably should fix that alive bit to stay in character.
No, I don't expect you to understand what I just referenced. You're poor and probably don't read many books.

the free TF2 content would have been a paid expansion in "the good old days"
I wasn't going to use the cliche of 'Good ole' Days.' The TF2 support has been an oddity in the gaming world. For the amount they added into the game it's worth paying for, though I don't know how they would make the game playable for people with vanilla Tf2 with people who did pay.
DLC is killing the industry. It lowers standards and makes it appropriate for developers to seek profit by the promise of new content coming sometime, rather than just making a game worth playing in the first place. There aren't enough exceptions to this, like Valve having done for TF2.
For all the durps being durps:
Lets say I sell you a metal box for $200. Lets say, inside is... I don't know, something very nice and shiny. You open the box, and inside is indeed something somewhat shiny, but there's also another box. "What's in that box" you say? Well, you want your shiny thing to get even SHINIER? Then pay me $50 and I'll give you a key to open the box that was in the box you just bought from me and see what's inside!
You pay me $50. I give you a key. Inside the box is a moist towelette. No refunds.
Moral of the story: moist towelettes fucking own.

I must be weird because I don't find TF2 as fun as other people do.
Well, I think the developers are just ripping off the customer. They didn't do any extra work, they just locked a piece of the game during development and called it DLC. It doesn't even qualify as DLC since nothing is downloaded (except the unlock code perhaps)
Well, milking isn't illegal or anything. It's just a really, really douchy thing to do. Sadly, in the long run, the best solution for this is "don't buy it". So I guess I kind of agree with leetsepeak. But I don't agree with you when you say stuff like "It's legal so it's alright so stop whining". Leetsepeak, do understand that whining about this shit is important. If no one whines, more publishers are going to put this kind of shit in their franchise and I'm pretty sure very little of us really want that. In my opinion, the right thing to do in situations like these would be to
1. don't buy it
2. whine to everyone to make sure they don't buy it
or
1. buy it and be unpleasantly surprised
2. whine to everyone so that they don't make the same mistake
If we lived in some fairyland where everyone's dreams came true, the company would realize the error of it's DLCing ways when no one bought their stupid shit and instead started looking for new ways of selling DLC
[editline]02:33PM[/editline]
Also leetsepeak, "it's only 5 bucks" isn't a good argument. What matters is that you're getting your money's worth, not the cost of the dlc
"I FEEL THAT I'M ENTITLED TO EVERY BIT OF CONTENT ON THE DISK BECAUSE I DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT I DIDN'T BUY THE GAME I BOUGHT THE LICENSE" pretty much sums up the OP.
I don't really see the issue considering it's like a "Oh hey, you enjoy our game quite a bit so please spend a little bit of money on some more content" kind of thing, not game breaking at all. Just buy it and stop feeling like you should get it for free.
Because you didn't pay for what's on the disk, you paid for a license to use content on the disk. It's five dollars anyway, that's literally pocket change.
haha i point out the fact that you actually pay for a license and I get rated dumb. Stop feeling entitled you twats, it's only five fucking dollars anyway, who gives a shit about $5?
The point is, that usually the DLC and overall everything was paid for the EXTRA value the developers added to make the game better.
They obviously already included the stuff in the original product, and then cut it off, because the game was obviously too good to have it all for the retail price.

They could at least write the license so we feel like we own the game and that we're not allowed to copy it and give it to people or anything. This seems like the developers holding a cherry on a string just out of reach and giggling as you flail your arms trying to get it. And that's not a nice thing to do.
My bet is that the devs didn't even know they are actually working on DLC, then the publisher told them to lock up some things so they can resell them later.
For fuck's sake, you don't like a DLC?
Avoid that menu selection then, if you're so cheap as to think they will give out EXTRA content that has shit like 'Lol dinosaur gun' in it for free.
[editline]03:54PM[/editline]
Besides, you bought the damn LISCENSE. Not the DISK, Bro.
IMO the whole argument is irrelevant anyway, there are people that don't mind buying DLC, and some that oppose the principle of it.
Really all you can do is vote with your money, complaining isn't going to do anything.
Personally i haven't bought a single game that has had these kind of DLC schemes.
aww poor little console gamers
Good thing I'm not buying the DLC.
I rarely ever do for PC games.

Extra content that's already in there, yes, I'd expect to get it for free.

The point is that it isn't extra if they already released it with the game. It's a part of the game, only extra sold.

In all fairness, you couldn't have been gaming majorly before the 2000s, leading me to believe you have no idea what you're talking about. This DLC stuff has become commonplace in the industry, and it doesn't bother me nearly as much as it probably should. In the case of Bioshock 2, the fact that the data is already on the disk and is merely being unlocked is shameful on the developers parts.
IF it was actual content that never existed on the disc, then that's completely different, but that's not the case. There is content on this disc that they've decided to cheap the consumer out of.
Alot of gamers have jobs you know, so they technically do work for it and deserve a good game with no bullshit.

Not to defend 1337 here, but...
In all fairness, so does pretty much everyone else in society have a job. And so did the people that worked painstakingly long hours, days, months and years to bring you the game. So your argument is null. Beating a game doesn't mean you worked hard. You're acting like gamers are the only people with jobs or something.

Most of the posters on facepunch live in their own magical fairy world so it should't be too much of a surprise that people are crying over DLC.
Maybe they wanted DLC, but decided that those with the DLC can use this content with those who didn't have the DLC. Think of the pre-order bonus that came with Left 4 Dead 2, it was in the game data, so that those who have the bonus can use their bonus alongside those who don't have it.
But I still think it's kind of a dick move.

Imagine you bought a chest, and inside that chest is a few little extra things, But there's a fucking padlock on it. But you don't have the key, you have to buy it separately
Who sells a lock without the key? These guys did

Well, actually, it's more like a box within a box. Inside that first box is a pretty fun toy, it's very pretty and it's fun to play with others who have the toy. But to unlock the second box you need to pay to get a key. (maybe a few more keys if there's a bunch of inner boxes) And inside the second box is something that makes your toy even better!
I feel like I said 'box' too much.
even then why the fuck are you guys sperging over a five fucking dollar dlc
So don't buy it. You don't need that content anyway, just skip over it if it makes you so mad. In fact, organize a large scale boycott and just none of you buy the DLC.
That analogy is shit anyway because the keys are needed to use the car. This DLC is in no way needed to play the game.
you dont know the value of money do you
you just fucking ask mommy for money and she hands it to you because youre a spoiled piece of shit
well let me tell you, when you work, at a real fucking job, not allowance, and you earn your $60 for a game, and then someone tells you that it's additional $5 for the rest of the content, it's pretty aggravating
it doesnt even matter if it's $5 or $50, they still shouldn't lock content on the disk, we paid enough already to play the game period

yeah and you know how much theyre making off their millions of $60 sales
you dont know the value of money do you

You're aware of the fact that the employees aren't making those millions, aren't you? It's the ones running the company, just like the company you're employed by, who doesn't pay you the millions (or however much) they make for themselves.
What I personally don't like is the general principle of it. I believe that if you're paying for a game, then you should get all of the game. Not just the license, not just some of what's on the disc, everything that's on the game. Of course there would be certain rules regarding the usage of what you own, but you would still have all of it.
I feel that all they're doing now is just a continuation of what they've been doing since gaming started. I understand that they need to pay their workers and all, but all this would cut out is an unnecessary sum of money that they shouldn't have been able to get in the first place.
And yes, I know that you buy the license not the actual game. The above is what I feel it should be.
Developers get a shit deal when it comes to profits, the publishers take the majority of the earnings and give what's left to the developers, making them dependent on the publisher to actually sell the game.
Not that I condone locking content to make extra money like this, it's not like it's new content it's just that they decided to charge extra for it later and call it DLC. And it's NOT DLC because you don't download anything.

I'd get an angle grinder/bolt cutter and cut through it.
