No you don't want a siege their harder than you think, unless you have more that 2 squads of well trained dwarfs. Then you should be fine as long as you have crossbows, a wall, a spike hall, and a drawbridge nothing shall pass.
No but seriously one squad of 2 swords dwarfs, 1 wrestler and 5 (unequipt)recruits wont get the job done against a 20 or 30 man siege. In fact if I recall from my previous desert fortress an army of 62 recruits led by my most manliest dwarfs couldn't get the job done.
Seems to be a lot of bugs in this new version according to the past few dev logs. Hope he can hammer them out before March.

I've got 4 squads of champions with adamantite weapons and plate armor, and a hall full of cage traps so I can toss any survivors in an arena, and rooms next to the main hall with fortifications for my crossbow-dwarves , I realize they go both ways.

Who uses draw bridges? I use complex airlock related floodgate systems that include water intakes and drains or magma, I also have used extreme world flooding spire systems, so one of those cone tower sort of things with shrines at the top, at the top of each shrine is a channel, it is part of my complex pump system that each spire has, it has endless water/magma pumped in, it pumps out on lever release.

Oh well, it went well enough, one of my champions went into a martial trance and killed 5 hammer goblins, apparently his cock got tired doing so
I enjoy selling several hundred pieces of goblin leather and silk clothing to those dumb humans for about 249,589* in return for only 9899* of metal and meat. I do not enjoy however marking all of those single items for trade due to the fact they share bin-space with useful dwarf clothes and large gems.
