I think a possible, future (far, far, far future) thing was building up your own armies with your dwarves and then sending them to the fortress of another player, and that'd pretty much be the extent of it.
Not exactly sure how two people on the same fortress area would work.
I'm considering ditching my current fortress in favor of a new one. This one is functional, but the design is a complete mess. I also need to drop the population cap. I am nowhere near experienced enough to handle such a massive population.
Every time I see this thread, I get a glimmer of hope that the new version was actually finally released, and then I realize what it actually is, and become depressed for a few hours.

8 of my men died here, only half of them were military, and 2 of those were Champions. 1 Axedwarf drowned. It was in an underground river, FULL of diverse 'X-men', like Snakemen, Frogmen, Olmmen and Lizardmen.
Nasty little creatures! Especially the Snakemen seemed to be the dangerous ones, I think those were the ones that killed my Champions.
