Oh looky, a new devlog.
Non-programming bug to report: I know a lot of you were disappointed by the latest DF talk. I was sort of confused by the specific complaints at first, but I actually went back to the transcript today and found that somehow I only managed to send 6 of the 7 recorded segments over to be edited. The missing segment? A 27 minute file starting with "All right, so now we're going to talk about the future of the artifacts", which was the main draw of the talk for pretty much everybody. Sorry for not catching my mistake sooner! The file is intact, and we'll try to get that together promptly.
We still had DF bugs to go around. Liaisons had been hanging out doing nothing, staying in some fortresses for years before moving on, but not all of them. After a bit of poking around, I found that one of the liaisons that chose to linger was in fact trying to meet with a batman blowgunner far underground. Apparently any creature that was around on the map before the dwarves that wasn't a historical figure was thought to hold every responsibility for every civilization, including receiving diplomats. The new animal people camps created this situation.
I recently updated the material values in the raws, but it wasn't working out. This is because, despite my attempt to select every material, it only affected the last material on the list for a given creature. So while dragon teeth were virtually worthless, dragon pus was like creamy gold. Infect and collect!
Motherfucker how!!!
Does anyone else ever get sucked into DF? Sometimes I'm like "Man, I should play some Heroes of Newerth or Forza 3..."
2 hours later I'm still playing Dwarf Fortress :D
It came out 3 minutes ago, I had RSS feed and all.
Conclusion: Orkel is Toady's son.
Also some new nobles are visible in the list:

Arsenal dwarf sounds cool. According to the raws he'll be doing these jobs:
[RESPONSIBILITY:UPGRADE_SQUAD_EQUIPMENT]
[RESPONSIBILITY:EQUIPMENT_MANIFESTS]
[RESPONSIBILITY:SORT_AMMUNITION]
It always comes out at around this time of the day (if it comes out at all), so I just refresh the devlog occasionally for a while. Timing, timing is the key.

Look at the dwarf right at the very end of the video. How the fuck does he move so fast?
How do you shoot a bow in adventurer mode, guys?
Try "f".
I'm probably late, saw this in another thread, is this game fun and dwarvenly?

Angband is a nice Roguelike, thou i like ADOM and Incursion more.
I'm more into Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup myself, it feels nicer.
And IVAN if I want to die a horrible death.

OH JESUS

OH ARMOK
I think I killed/captured half of them, the rest of 'em ran away, I think 3 of my military dwarves died.

Dungeon Crawl feels a bit too plain for me.
I really like lots and lots of variation, ADOM and Incursion can provide that and if i want to play hack-n-slash Roguelike i'd rather play POWDER.

Needs more cage traps. Yeah, it's not dwarvenly, and it's cowardly too, but so what? I like holding tournaments :(
I'm setting up a lot of different traps in that hallway, if they get through that, I'm going to build some special traps (pressure-pads that open doors to rooms with wardogs etc)
I want War-Mountain-Goats.
That would be ultimatively dwarvenly awesome.

Can you give me a download link to ADOM or Incursion? I tried to download them but the links don't work / rar archives are fucked.
Found a link to ADOM.
Does anyone have a link to some kind of Wiki? This game is hard as fuck.

Here are the separate floors for my new Dwarf fortress. I'm really learning how to keep things neat and tidy. :v:
(Because I'm lazy I just put all of the floors on to one image)
The first floor (top left) contains nothing more than my Trade Depot, a Farm, and a barracks for the dwarves who don't have finished rooms.
The second floor (top left) is mostly business. I have seperate rooms for my different works (masonry, etc.). On the top left is the housing area. I used the pod design from the fortress wiki (thanks again for that) and I absolutely love it. The bottom left is the incomplete dining room with a food storage attached. I wanted to keep that close to the living areas for obvious reasons.
Third floor (bottom) is the second floor of living space, and the storage area. I wanted easy access to supplies for the shops. Thus, behind each shop, is a stairwell that leads to a large storage area. Each separate stockpile pertains to the shop above it. I plan on having these be multi-level, instead of being ridiculously large.

Suggestions would be nice. :v:

I've finished ADOM once. I love it. Played through as a dwarven paladin if I remember correctly.
Tips:
Keep yourself fed but remember: "Satiated" or "Bloated" cause you to move slower.
Burdened is good if you want to train strength but will also make you move slower. The move severe cases of burden status will also train strength but they might abuse dexterity. (training a stat means that it will improve at some point)
Running away is highly advised instead of taking risks with monsters that are too strong.
Throwing weapons are great at some situations. Learn to use something.
Infinite dungeon is infinite. Literally. It generates new dungeons as you go up and down and old ones are not saved. Don't lose items there. It's a good place to find stuff though.
If you find an altar that is aligned with you, try to make your god happy by sacrificing stuff. You can sacrifice live creatures too by using the offer command when next to the altar and the creature is on it. You get tons of benefits with a pleased god (one of them being that the cursed/uncursed/blessed status of an item dropped on the altar will be revealed-really useful!).
Actually I could go on and on but it might make more sense if you just read the guidebook. You (or other people here) can add me on Steam if you want guidance or something, my steam id is truepalikka

Thanks broski.
IVAN is better

After playing too much BioShock 2 I decided to build something different, something impossible. I'll build... RAPTURE!
So yes I embarked near an ocean so I just need to build a normal cave-fortress, then make a huge area for the water and I'm set!
But how would I go about making Plasmids? Hmmm...

Make glass. Lots of it. If it's concrete walls, it don't count.

You'll need to drain a load of ocean before you can build, unfortunately :(

No? He can build underwater one step at a time and just drain each stretch of tunnel. Granted it'll take a while, sure. That, or he can build underground then flood it.
I'm still really iffy on how to build wells. Do I build a tunnel beneath the well and then channel that, or...?
Neither of the guides I've read really help me with this... :raise:

Well you can't build in water, is what I mean.

Just channel some land that's over a water source and build your well in the empty space.
Side view:
--W--
G---G
~~~
W = well
G = ground
~ = water
- = empty space
So theres a few useless rocks ive found... and Ill have an ass ton of this type of rock...
a good example is Mica. I have a ton of Mica in my first fort.
Wtf do I do with that stuff? My stone stockpiles are filled!
