So. My brook froze over and hasn't melted again.
What do I do?
It's going to do that each year, make an underground pool with the water running from it, controlled with doors that are controlled by levers. Make a well on the pool. make magma flow around the pool, so the walls in the room that the pool is in are hot. Then the water won't freeze.
I don't think I have magma here.
Also, there isn't actually any more water except murky pools. The brook froze upstream so it's drained away downstream. It's been through summer and autumn and not melted.
I don't think it was a freezing biome, though. Strange.
Holy titfucking shit, I discovered a HUGE vein of copper in my planned Rapture.
Rapture will be made out of Copper + Green glass :smug:
Rapture is not built from copper and green glass, that is what the parasites will never understand.
Clear Glass and Steel all the way.
God damnit I lost my swordsdwarf to injury at the hands (hoofs) of a zombie deer.
My glassmaker got a fey mood, but there isn't any sand in my location.
I built him this ~special~ workshop just for the occasion.

Edit: Lost a miner to fun magma mist
F.Y.I. if you download it from May Green's site that's an older version. Also are you sure you are changing the right thing? Cause I know a few people get confused with it.
It has several init files, so no. And changing all of them has made no changes in window size.
Anybody know why one of my artifacts has an artifact I've never seen before on it?
Anybody know why one of my artifacts has an artifact I've never seen before on it?
It might be from one of your previous forts.
I really wanna' mud up an area in my fort, but I don't want to flood the whole thing. I floodgated the room, and there's a pool I can dig over to. How long does it take for the water to evaporate on its own?

If it's 1/7 not much. Which raises a question in my head, can engravings get muddy?
Hey, could you add me to the player list? :D,
Also, if anyone needs a GREAT tutorial, try this one :http://afteractionreporter.com/2009/02/09/the-complete-and-utter-newby-tutorial-for-dwarf-fortress-part-1-wtf/

Should I get Dig Deeper? Looks fun, but I am not sure
Should I get Dig Deeper? Looks fun, but I am not sure
If you want new challenges and enemies, yes.
http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=49281.0 Using this to teach my friends how to play, it includes
A modded Dig deeper
A Tileset
"Fun"
The furthest i've been able to get my friends into less graphical games is SS13, I doubt I could ever get one of them to play dwarf fortress.

Just installed Windows 7 64 bit.
How do I fix this?
I don't get why people learn on tilesets. I wouldn't get so pissed off over it (which is a stupid thing to get annoyed by anyway) if they even tried to learn the classic ASCII. They just look at it like, "LOL FUCK DIS" and then go straight to Gayday's Tileset.

Get your facts straight before you bitch. Most of us learnt MOST of the ASCII, but we PREFER (oh wow, personal opinion? NO WAY!) tilesets. Yeah, you might gain more from the imaginative power of ASCII, others don't. We're not all the same, some of us behave and take in information differently from others.
Stop bitching about it, Jesus. Funnily enough, it's always you who starts these tileset rants off.
I was playing with ASCII for a good 3-4 weeks before I found Mike Maydays tileset. And in the end, if people use tilesets to play, at least it's getting more people to play. After all, it's the least Toady deserves. And word of mouth passes fast over the internet.

wahhhhhhh
Also the tileset isn't causing the problem.
I could use ASCII if I needed to, but I don't, and I find the tileset I use more visually pleasing, so I figure why not use it?
I don't get why it's such a big deal, to each his own

I don't see why people are bitching. Sure, most people don't give it a try (shame on you /mock) but that isn't a bad thing. At least it gets MORE people playing.
People like Kyle just like flaunting about the fact that they're somehow better than most people.
Take Orkel. A prime example. God of DF (second in line to the throne of Armok) and he's been using ASCII for ages. Not once have I ever heard him bitch about tilesets, nor put others down because of it.
Kyle, you need to grow up buddy. You always start this crap and it's getting old.
God damit I want my fortress to be perfect and I start over and over again when it gets messy.
Even, with Dwarf Therapist micromanaging, these walking beards is a pain for me.

Ahaha, tell me about it :p
I can't help my eyes are fucked, thus ASCII gives me headaches
I can't help my eyes are fucked, thus ASCII gives me headaches
No need to explain WHY you use it. It's up to you what you play, why explain yourself to tards like Kyle?
Also, I prefer tilesets cause it gets annoying when you have to keep 'k'ing stuff to see what it is (I learnt half the stuff) which in itself isn't that bad. But trying to memorise that as well as key bindings just becomes a clusterfuck in your head.
[editline]08:48PM[/editline]
Ironic how I told him he doesn't have to explain his self, then I explained myself? :p
I just embarked on a freezing area and I'm making an outdoor fortress both for the first time. Should be 'fun'.
I must say Dig Dwarfier looks really good.

More specifically, how do I update my GPU and what drivers should I update?
