Wow. No migrants for two years. Everything running smoothly...
Then suddenly 23 migrants show up at once.
Must be the peace and quiet. I settled a place and then realized there were NO neighboring civilizations.
Still learning about construction. I've adopted less of an expansive style and more of a deep style. The fortress itself is quite small, but I've built several z-layers down. Makes everything easier for the dwarves to get to. I think the furthest thing from anything is the well, and that's because I don't want to risk flooding a functioning fortress again. :byodood:
You can't see the civs until they have contacted you by either ambushes, sieges, kidnappers/thieves or caravans.
I've had two caravans come by and still didn't see anything. I could always double-check, but yeah.

Try to make a lot of wealth. All kinds of expensive items. Hopefully you'll get kobold thieves and goblin ambushes later on.
Yeah, you were right. Humans, Kobolds, etc.
I just had someone in a fey mood make something nice, so maybe that'll help.
Also, some tips on making it more... fortress-y. Trap designs, walls, etc., would be awesome. Right now I've got a few recruits running around, but that's about it.
Once upon a time there was a happy village of humans called happy village.
They were happy as could be for a LOOOOOOOOONG time!
Then the dwarves snuck in and unseen to the humans dug rooms under EVERY BUILDING IN THE CITY!
Then they collapsed and stole the weapons and armor from the storages.
THEN AFTER THAT, they stole the pub by collapsing it into the ground too.
Happy village was still happy until the pub, then they got mad.
Their children ran off and punched skeletal elephants and returned with the elephants in rage, the dwarfs survived the attack because they are just that badass, happy village was ruined and killed.
The dwarfs were all :smug: after this.

That was beautiful.
Toady seriously needs to take out possessed moods grrrr
I swear the moods I get always require some obscure material I don't have and if I get it they make something completely useless to me, i'll be expecting a sweet throne or something and get a toy sword.
Toady seriously needs to take out possessed moods grrrr
NOO!
Make them optional in the init.
I'd rather he not make the game for weaklings TAKE WHAT ARMOK THROWS AT YAR
wow, there are tentacle demons in the glowing pits from the civilization
Toady seriously needs to take out possessed moods grrrr
Why? You still get an artifact from them.
One of my dwarves got possessed and wouldn't claim any of the workshops. I finally figured out he needed a glass furnace, so I built one, but then I realized that I don't have the means to produce any glass, which he needs.
So that workshop is now walled off from the rest of the fort. I'm killing him Sims-style.
Man, this new fortress I've made is a hell of a lot more fun than my first one. The werewolves have given us constant challenge (especially the hunters), but this means that my military is actually put to use. Also, when I had produced scarcely 100k dorfbux' worth of goods, I got to experience my first Goblin Christmas!
Actually it was just an all-out goblin battle because I don't have any traps yet. My 13 wrestler dwarves went out and met 6 goblin wrestlers and one goblin axeman. Actually one of my dwarves has a hammer, and he crushed the goblin axeman in what I perceived to be a clash of epic proportions, and so another champion claimed the axe and shield. The goblins killed one of my gem cutters in their ambush, and one wrestler dwarves had his pancreas heavily wounded and his right wrist broken, but he'll sleep it off.
All this and I'm only like 3 years into this fort. My first one is like 8 years old and nothing visited it but a retarded dragon.

The exact same thing happened to me. He wouldn't use any of the Magma furnaces I had already built, so I made him a regular furnace like you did. Fortunately I already had some raw glass made for him.
I have a question, with the upcoming medical stuff in the next version, will it be possible to fix or at least retire dwarves with broken backs and critical injuries like that? I really don't want 3 of my beds to be occupied permanently untill I kill them, as Loofiloo said, 'Sims-style'.

You don't kill injured dwarves sims style, you kill them chasm or magma style. Why? Because they are as useless as nobles so they should go out as nobles.
Countdown untill the new version?
Sorry, i haven't checked this thread in quite a while

How would I drag them down to my magma pipe?

We don't know the exact date.

I just have a sick people kill system, by having a magma channel to the barracks, and a way to drain the magma after I am done of course. Don't forget to move out all your non sick dwarves. (Learned that the hard way). For people you don't have a magma channel to every dwarf's room. There is always the fighting arena. And don't forget; if they can't come to the fighting arena, then the fighting arena can come to them.
[editline]02:20PM[/editline]
Also, I dunno if this is possible. You might be able to deconstruct the bed they are in. That should make a dwarf come and pick them up and move them to a different bed, preferable the one that you constructed over the magma pit. All that magma will keep them so warm and comfortable. Just don't let a dwarf pull that lever that is keeping the entire magma pit platform stable.

Probably less than a couple of weeks.

Fuck that, it's too difficult, I don't have any bauxite or anything so that would be a one-timer-magma-room. :saddowns:

I bet you this thread will end before the new version is released.
Next one should be called "The new new version thread"
"The new version thread... For real this time"
I abandoned my fortress, not nearly enough fun going on. It was just too perfect.
"The new version thread... For real this time"
New Version Thread - The final cut.
We've still got over half the thread to go... We should be fine!
We've still got over half the thread to go... We should be fine!
"The thread" smacks" New version" in the head with "Survival" it is battered.
Im starting up a new fortress. Why dont we get a steam chat group up for people playing right now?
I find this game 1000x more fun when you get to discuss shit with others in real time :)
