I've fought off 3 goblin ambushes now, and killed god-knows-how-many kobold thieves and goblin snatchers. I've probably lost about 15 assorted dwarves to ambushes, werewolves, and cougars. Also one to insanity.

I can see my new fortress will be a lot more fun, theres already a Unicorn in there somewhere.

I didnt build a full wall, because I can never trust a mason to not wall himself in and entomb himself. Entombing yourself with a hungry unicorn would be even worse.

So my brook froze over and drained away without me noticing. Am I screwed? What can I do?

If theres ice you could try melting it with magma. Otherwise you can hope your dwarves survive and then make a water reservoir

I thought brooks and rivers were impossible to 'stop' unless you blocked them off completely.

Well, the brook has iced over upstream and isn't thawing again. So downstream it's drained away. And I don't think I have magma on this map. If I mined away the majority of the ice, would the stuff next to the edge of the map thaw?

Having no water resource sucks. 7 Migrants arrived in my little above ground fortress, so I thought having a hunter, to have an additional food source, would be a good idea. Well she fought with a yak, hurt her head, died due to the lack of water. On top of that she was married to the migrant I just drafted into the military. He feels like crap now...

I've grown tired of Dwarf Fortress. Thank god for the new version coming out soon.

They need a pathfinding route to get to your dwarves, or they'll camp until they get bored and leave.

Why won't my marksdwarves fire at the enemy Orcs? They are just standing there behind the fortifications, no matter what I do, move the squad, change their settings, undraft and draft them, they just sit there and refuse to fire at them, only one marksdwarf is firing, and he's getting all the exp.

Do the rest have any bolts?
