Before summer I was still thinking 'this game looks so boring, but so many people are playing it. It MUST be good.'
Turns out it was :D
Whenever people ask me what it is and I explain them what the game is about, they either sigh or say 'wow, well, it looks boring as hell.'
I always tell them it's more fun than it looks.
One elite marksorc, that shoots like a fucking machine gun vs my wood bolt shooting dwarfs and my defence is gone...

Avoid enemy bows
They're overpowered
So, I've decided that my fortress has the strangest climate ever. Every year, only from the 6th of Opal (which is mid-winter) till about the 28th Opal, all the water on my map freezes :v:.
Anyway, while it's frozen, I'm damming my brook, and then I'm going to channel out my entire map and make my fortress an island.

Once the next version comes out one legendary marksdwarf won't be able to take out an entire goblin army. :v:

It is not like I'm asking him kindly for some butt love without lube. He is just their, stairing at my.
If the fortress should survive, how would I 'avoid' enemy bowmen?

What the hell the orc just went off and 5 minutes later 'A vile force of darkness has arrived'.
Not cool. At least the merchants can try fight them off.
I just had a vile force of darkness myself!
The defending champions: My dwarven military, of about 6 various fighters and 5 marksdwarves.

The invaders: 16 goblins, some with pikes, some with nothing.

The outcome?
This happened to a couple goblins:

This happened to the rest of them:

This happened to none of my dwarves! Time for some lootin!
My outcome was quite different:

Well no more DF for me until the new version comes out. I'm gonna switch back to Ascii by then.
So, anybody know why my dwarves won't put my ballista arrows in my stockpile?
ballista ammo is concidered furniture
ballista ammo is concidered furniture
I know that. I found out why, I didn't have any materials enabled :v:
Holy crap it's the 25th. The new version is comming closer and closer!
Avoid enemy bows

Once you get up close though, you can bash 'is 'ed in.
Heh, yesterday's devlog
"fixed issues with flying item thieves"
Now that is sneaky
Oh so that's how they evade traps!
I made a presentation about Dwarf Fortress in school today, at first people were like "what the fuck's this shit" but in the end I got like 5 people to try it out.
Whens the new version coming out? :'(

Before you will see the light of the month known as April.

The time for the new version coming out requires some extremely complex mathematics that work on the principles of infinite improbability, bistro-mathematics and dwarf science.
Toady is considered a random number generator. You take his estimate and write that down.
You then go to an Italian bistro. Note down what time you are getting there, how many people say they are going and how many people actually turn up. You divide the number of people who actually arrive by the number of people who said they would. You then put it in a ratio based on the time that you arrive. So if it was half past 8 you put it in the ratio of 8:30.
You then note down the following. The number of drinks everyone orders, the number of individual meals everyone has. (if 3 people has a first, main and dessert the answer would be 9) and the sum of the distances between you and the stains on the tablecloth. Multiply these together in that order.
You then note down how much each person pays towards the cost of the meal, and divide them by each other starting with the youngest person first.
you then add these three numbers together and feed them into an infinite improbability computer. It will then take Toady's estimate and find the difference in hours between that and the real time of release.
This must all be done under the principles of dwarf science.
I've been reading too much hitch hikers guide to the galaxy lately.
Sieging humans brought some war polar bears, and one of them started a camp fire. Highly trained!
Fixed that up, made the new categories in the labor list light up properly when sub-labors are selected, fixed annoying ant colony display bug (they were being displayed wherever on the screen), fixed that fever bug from the 13th, stopped metal crafters from turning the coal they brought into "large coal gems", fixed a crash with cobweb placement, got appropriate wilderness creatures to enter the map from liquid/air edges properly, and fixed some of the legends text export information (still unclear whether that's going to be replaced/augmented by xml)...
Yay, I get to post it first.

If I'm not mistaken a Polar Bear is Bigger than a Kodiak. (an larger more aggresive sub species of grizzly.)
So forget the horses, you are defiantly most assuredly fucked.
According to Wikipedia, Kodiaks are slightly bigger.

Forget the bears, get war blue whales and raid the shit out of those mermen.
Fuck
Fuck
And then if we get into February it wouldn't shock me. If we get into March, well, that's just sad.

Ha ha, that was recorded in September or October I think, before the flu knocked me out for ~three weeks. So, would April be sad? Yeah! Is it also possible, even if I don't get really sick again? Yeah! It would still be sad though. This release cycle has been sadly long. The game is roughly as dirty now as it was for the first releases in 2006, which most of the current players weren't around for. I don't feel like I can release it like that, so I'm making it a little more clean to avoid some shock and misery (hopefully... who knows what thousands of people will dig up...). I know that's frustrating for people that don't care as much about crashes and all that, and it's also frustrating for people that do care about crashes just because it has been a while, but I still think it would be better to release something that kind of works this time around, where features that already exist aren't crippled in many cases and new features are pretty okay. A lot of things work now, but many things are still broken and I'm still getting at least a crash report a day.
AFADASDASDADADASD
i think i'm going to cry.
So we now have no idea when the new version is going to come out.
"Hello? Bistro del italiana...."
Sigh, at least I have Assassin's Creed 2 to play by then.
So this means it will be released in april?
i can wait
I laughed anew at "New Version Thread"
If this doesn't come out in the next week or so I will cry. I really want to play but I don't want to play before the new version comes out.
