Abandon Fortress. all hope is lost.
NO!!! You must press on no matter the cost! You will go to that mountain and you will show it and all it's inhabitants what it's REALLY like to be given the finger of hell! And in your wake you shall leave a masterful hall of engravings to document your history and show the world that the dwarves once graced this land and left due to boredom.
Amazing.

ALL HOPE IS LOST! Actually, they're just in an underground chasm filled with zombie antmen, skeletal trolls, and I'm almost certain a Giant Cave Spider somewhere (if not, one will spawn eventually.) We're talking about a place with ruby and sapphire clusters so dense and common, that I can harvest probably 11 rubies from one cluster of Bauxite (all close enough I can build a 3x3 room out of the digged out area.)

Elephant-unicorn-sea monster that breathes fire and swims in the magma? Cool. A new forgotten beast for the next release.
short description: demon.
Befitting a fortress in a situation such as this, I'm going to slit a cut in the very Earth, and that is where my fortress shall ooze the pus of wealth, assuming channeling actually creates down tiles. [editline]11:33AM[/editline] Basically, I'm just going to dig directly down, instead of from a mountain side, and I'll gradually build the initial hole in the ground into a massive tower. Or should I just go for "Classic Mountainhome?"

Holy shit that is goddamn awesome.
shit i got a lot of native gold in the lowest level of a chasm, what should i do?
Send in the military to kill off the defenders and claim your golden booty.
Shit, I was trying to drain my moat, it froze for those 2 weeks during the winter, and when it thawed it was all 7/7 again :saddowns: It was 4/7 depth when it froze
Going to. Been busy with other things happening. I gotta' go to work, but next chance I get I will be. Oi. Setting up stairs correctly still confuses me. Can upward and downward stairs be right above/below (respectively) each other or do they have to occupy separate areas? (Feel free to give me boxes, but I'm still learning. This game is deeper than I gave it credit for)
They should overlap.
And you didn't channel it out whilst it was frozen because...?
It was, it was frozen for ~2 weeks gametime (it's actually more like 10 days, I have a strange climate). It wasn't all 7/7, there were a bunch of 6/7 spots because of the area I could channel out with three miners in that time.
I think I actually had a short dream last night about finding adamantine in the depths of my fort. Boy you haven't lived until you've had a dream in ascii

An elephant demon?! :byodood:
I think I actually had a short dream last night about finding adamantine in the depths of my fort. Boy you haven't lived until you've had a dream in ascii
I had a dream in ASCII where everything in my house were symbols and I was a happy face. I ran around not knowing there is a guy flooding my room with magma because I cut my foot and stayed in bed for a little while. I now know how dwarfs feel.
Wow, gotta' love how this game will find a way to make all hell break loose. My fort is built in to the side of a mountain, and thus there is a lot of slopes. I started channeling out areas of the hill so that there would be a sheer cliff on two sides (after which I would fortify the area with a wall. Unfortunately, dwarfs don't seem to understand that trapping yourself on a 1x1 sheer cliff pillar is a bad idea. Both of my miners did this. Shortly after, the earth declared a mighty "FUCK YOU" and caused a series of cave-ins in this area, injuring about 6 dwarfs and killing one. How fun. :gonk:
that demon is fucking terrifying.
I have bones on my walls because of some foolish goblins walked straight into my traps and got their body parts violently separated...I love DF.
I can't even imagine what kind of stories we'll get in this thread when everyone is playing the new version. Most the posts will probably be spammed with funnies.
I can't wait.
I can't even imagine what kind of stories we'll get in this thread when everyone is playing the new version. Most the posts will probably be spammed with funnies.
I can see it now "So I had a hammerlord who got injured by some goblins, both his legs got mangled, then the surgeon who was supposed to fix him up fucked up and ended up cutting off both his legs, he just singlehandedly fought off a goblin siege with his crutches."
I can see it now "So I had a hammerlord who got injured by some goblins, both his legs got mangled, then the surgeon who was supposed to fix him up fucked up and ended up cutting off both his legs, he just singlehandedly fought off a goblin siege with his crutches."
"So I was digging a bedroom for one of my nobles when I struck a cavern and five round blobs of vomit rolled out of the hole, my axedwarf cut them to pieces but he and the room were covered in vomit afterwards and he was unhappy from the smell" [editline]08:59PM[/editline] You know you've been waiting too long when you create fake stories of the new version
Fixed a crash on the military screen, fixed a problem with arena items disappearing, reorganized the attribute descriptions a bit, made some adv mode keys work that weren't working, fixed some broken ramps in caves... I took all of the old underground features that no longer exist out of the site finder, though I didn't do desired updates there yet. There was kind of a violent explosion of boiling human blood when I was testing a human vs a magma man in the arena... it was a little weird, but I guess that's okay.
Orkel, you're slacking.
Explosions from boiling blood, ahahahaha. Yet another way for dwarves to die horribly.
I can imagine the skin catching on fire by the temperature of the blood, the blood evaporating rather quickly after contacting air and the flesh being just ash after. + lots of smoke for explosion-like effect.
Dropping captured enemies to magma will be so much better in the new version I bet.
