Go into the stockpile settings and make it allow whatever you want in that single stockpile, and not take in anything you don't want. It's something like p > s or something.
yeah but my regular food stockpile doesn't have barrels allowed, but they still put shit in barrels and stock them there
I found new interest in Dwarf Fortress by playing the "Dig Deeper" mod. Now there's actually a challenge. I've lost 17 dwarves to orcs and dark elves and 3 of them champions. Without the mod, armored champions are almost indestructible. [B]Oh, and 1 champion is missing a leg and has been resting for a few years.

Losing is fun!
But crippled soldiers are cool.

I once was able to build a self sustaining fortress with forest included.
....I crashed booted up my save, it was about 5 hours old D:

Not my legless champion. He's just lazying it out in his room, dwarves come to feed him and give him water. That's been his activity for years. He's not getting up...
I downloaded it, made a world, and have NO IDEA WHAT ANYTHING IS OR WHAT TO DO. This could be some fun, but I still need to actually understand it. Any help?
My marksdwarves got slaughtered by a skeletal bear after they charged at it without firing a single shot :gonk:

When they don't have ammo they use their crossbows like hammers.
Yay, a champion marksdwarf ran out of ammo and thought it would be a good idea to charge towards the orcs instead of getting more ammo...he got smashed against a wall pretty much instantly...
Which is how the majority of my hunters die to elephants.

For basic stuff.
And as for actual tutorials:

etc. Those were all in the first post, by the way.
Building above ground castles and towers and making my walls thicker while smoothing every stone I can touch and pumping out fine gems and masterwork weapons and armour goes well with this:

In my opinion it does.
booze crisis is over, three died even though there was some booze when they did, I fixed it by making bags for the seeds.
This is quite some fun! But I can't figure out what this purple gas is! Do you guys know?
Miasma. Causes an unhappy thought, but thats it
[editline]02:09AM[/editline]
To get rid of it, just dump your organic trash outside, like corpses
Stupid cats and their mice... It's better then alive mice, though.

Or lock it inside a double-sealed vault, like I do.

You should REALLY follow this tutorial. It comes with a pre-made map so you can follow the instructions almost exactly. It also comes with a tile set. This is how I learned, and it REALLY REALLY helped.......REALLY. Its called The Complete and Utter Newby Tutorial for Dwarf Fortress.

Because you can solve EVERYTHING with magma.
When I want to reset y fortress first I flood it with water.
Dammit I once wanted to do a well using a pool but I forgot about my underground stockpiles

Exact same thing happened here. Flooded two floors worth of stockpiles. Abandoned that soon after.

Well I continued.
I was glad it was a small pool.
Then my Outpost broker/manager/leader/lazzyass had a strange mood
And She asked for cloth, and when I got some cloth she went starking raving mad.
Then I said"Fuck it" and flooded my fortress
The Eerie Glowing Pit is in the shape of an inverted cross...
This is in the Terrifying mountain range named the Finger of Hell...

Well shit. If the name didn't frighten you off, this will KILL you off.
Unless you have prepared yourself with an army of priest. Or a regular army

Actually, take a screenshot of it

To be honest, I'm mighty tempted to abandon my current fortress and move into one of the Joyous Wilds/Terrifying Mountain Range areas.
The combination of Unicorns and Skeletal Giant Eagles would be too much to pass up.
Heh. I meant of the eerie glowing pit, but that works, too
Dammit, if there's one thing I hate it's the complete lack of any and all kinds of weapons-grade metals.
Every single viable embark location in that island of Mirthful/Joyous Wilds? Absolutely filled to the brim with Native Gold Veins, yet not a single drop of copper, iron, hell, even silver.
