[QUOTE=KestasLT;20118064]who's your main [editline]03:14PM[/editline] Ah, i remember the good old times of the first thread I still remember when i said that this game was too fucking complicated, everyone said, not it's not. Then i asked for a tutorial and all of you guys redirected me to captnduck's videos I've been playing ever since. i think it was the second iteration of this thread, or the first original by dlymidget[/QUOTE] Don't wanna say, i've been a jackass on this account, don't want to taint my main.
This map is cool as hell, where should I build my fortress entrance? [IMG]http://i47.tinypic.com/2u8wcr8.jpg[/IMG]
[QUOTE=TheKnife;20118269]This map is cool as hell, where should I build my fortress entrance? [IMG]http://i47.tinypic.com/2u8wcr8.jpg[/IMG][/QUOTE] an l-shaped bridge leading into the left side of that chasm/lake thing, and then go down diagonally from there.
Cover up the entrance to that magma pool and have your fort entrance sit right at the back, with the only entrance a gate that spans the magma. Awesome.
Or he could make an aboveground fortress above the magma pipe. :science:
Added everyone who asked to the list :)
Do you ever remove people who haven't posted in forever?
[QUOTE=Loofiloo;20120964]Do you ever remove people who haven't posted in forever?[/QUOTE] I personally think that he should.
Or change the list to 'People who play, or have played Dwarf Fortress:'
I remember that last time I played I was able to make the game display more tiles on the screen than the default value, by changing some grid setting in the init file, but I don't remember how I did it. Anybody know?
Has anyone here made a huge above ground fortress with walls? i remember that human fort with 300+ people i made it was the best fort i ever made. Ever. I had a fully working alcohol factory, with all types of food, lavish meals, and houses for my humans i also had a huge military, and a castle shit was so awesome, too bad i couldn't get any higher noble than sherrif seems there's some kind of bug when you override the game to play as humans :frown:
[QUOTE=KestasLT;20122633]Has anyone here made a huge above ground fortress with walls?[/QUOTE] What kind of dwarf wants to live outside?
[QUOTE=KestasLT;20122633]Has anyone here made a huge above ground fortress with walls?[/QUOTE] I've made a couple of aboveground forts :buddy: Lightblockade [IMG]http://i45.tinypic.com/289d5s2.png[/IMG] [url]http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-5322-lightblockade[/url] And Tradedaubed, from which I haven't got a pic. It's so old that I already deleted all. But I have the DFMA map of it. [url]http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-3024-tradedaubed[/url] Too bad I don't have the saves anymore. Would have loved to take pics with Visual Fortress instead of using the old 3Dwarf pic.
[QUOTE=Zatharon;20114599]Finally ended my killing spree for the night at 114 notable kills, 112 of which were elves, I decided to attack an elf forest retreat head on as opposed to sneaking around like I normally do, because of all my sneaking I ended up being a better shot than the elves with my bow, so I managed to take out all the archers before they could do anything horrible to me, then I shot more elves till I ran out of arrows and used my bow to beat anyone still alive from arrow wounds to death, then I pulled out my iron two-handed sword and carved a bloody swath through the remaining elves, it's been a good day.[/QUOTE] Going to load up my adventurer, reminding me of the glory days. Dunno how long he's been around, but I think he's pretty much invincible.
[QUOTE=Loofiloo;20120964]Do you ever remove people who haven't posted in forever?[/QUOTE] Nope.
I've got Fortress mode down, can anyone explain how to play Adventurer mode?

1,231 kills overall. Pretty badass. (It's a human, he's killed some dwarves, traitor, I know. :saddowns: ) I don't think he's a dragon slayer or anything, I actually believe all the megabeasts must be dead or something, I've asked plenty of towns, they're all untroubled. I can get rid of the [img] tags if it bugs anyone. But anyhow, basically slaughtered elves endlessly, took their clothes and sold it to humans and bought nice things. Got up to the legendary point just wandering the wilds, strangling undead groundhogs, and killing elves. Wrestling skill is actually pretty damn important. I'm pretty sure it's what determines if you 'jump away' from an attack. So, that helps against arrows and such. Good shield user is pretty nice too, can block them if you don't avoid them. And then he's also just as tough as a rock, so they bounce off if either fail.
How would I make water run one way on the same surface? More specifically, I'm trying to pump some water up a lot of z levels, problem is, the pump is getting power from a nearby river, and the electricity travels all the way to the pump from a water mill, meaning that the water being pumped can run back into the river, which is ofcourse a problem.
Can you build Floodgates on top of other Floodgates? I want to build a giant wall of Floodgates, to act as a gate to my mega-project.

[code] SPB________output _BPS SPB_ (side view) _BPS SPB_ [INPUT WATER RESERVOIR] [/code] S = suck water from a level below B = blow water next to this tile All you need to do is supply power to one of the pumps and as long as they touch each other, they'll share the energy! :science: but make sure there's contact between them [editline]10:45PM[/editline] how about we create a second list of 'pro players' that will only consist of really big, like 120 dwarves or so, fortress makers? An application would have to be backed by a proof screenshot
Orkel's aboveground fortresses are awesome, I remember downloading Tradedaubed when he posted it. :iia:
how do you pull out items that are stuck in you? I had a nasty run in with some elf warriors (haha) and ended up with a wooden sword and two arrows stuck in me and I cant figure out how to pull them out.
I have a champion in my fort who has lost her husband, only daughter and youngest son and she's still ecstatic...
do wild animals respawn or grow in numbers?
[QUOTE=Block;20125789]I have a champion in my fort who has lost her husband, only daughter and youngest son and she's still ecstatic...[/QUOTE] OH GOD URIST MCHUSBAND AND URIST MCKIDDIES NOOOOOOOOOO ooh look this dining room is nice!
They respawn after a couple of seasons. It takes a while.

It'll bring up a 'What do you want to interact with?' menu, then hit the corresponding letter for that +Maple Arrow+ stuck in your left leg.

I'm using one pump and LOTS of pressure to elevate the water to the skies. (Basically the pump is pumping the water upwards many levels, and it is so powerful that the water can't run backwards, so it only has one way to go: Up, up and away!) However, before going up a level, it can run another way, where axles are opening a tunnel for the water, so it can drain into a river. If necesarry I'll post some pictures later.
