Ugh, my Cheese maker "Roman Bellic" went insane and killed two dogs. My wrestlers had to put him down. Millions of baby snatchers are also trying to get to us.
Awesome, a 200k Ruby earring.
It is made of Ruby, studded with ruby, has bands of ruby, and I think it menaces with spikes of chalk.
Oh god it looks like this thread spawned another http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=903970

That's how you do it, engraver! A promotion for you.
A fitting end, possibly better then the other extreme of magma.
All my engravings are just "a dwarf and dwarves; the dwarf is surrounded by the dwarves" type stuff, even the masterpiece ones. There are a couple of dwarves being struck down and in fetal positions in bedrooms, but most of them are generic. My fortress has plenty of history. Is there a way to make them engrave historical things on walls? They did in my last fortress.
I remember I had a dwarf engrave this once:

Enable the history/detailed engravings from the init file.
Enable the history/detailed engravings from the init file.
Which part of the init file is that? I see a few here and I don't want to inadvertently change something I don't want to. :raise:

Change [SHOW_ALL_HISTORY_IN_DWARF_MODE] from NO to YES in df\data\init\d_init.txt.

Now kids we learned how this random dude got his toe smashed. We will have a test on this later.
A halfling caravan got ambushed by gobbos. Then a dwarf caravan arrived aswell at the same time, so it turned into a giant clusterfuck of halfling bows and melees banded together with heavily armoured axedwarf guards fighting gobbo bows and melees. Awesome.
i wonder if a dwarf has ever engraved an image of himself drowning and then commited suicide in a lake, as a suicide note

I think they can only engrave things that already happened, or random things like plump helmets.
I've also heard that they at least used to foreshadow random events.
Like they'd engrave a megabeast before it showed up or various demons fucking shit up for some dwarves if you were close to the HFS.

That would be interesting. What if a possessed dwarf engraver would always engrave something about the future of your fortress. Like an image of starving Dwarves foretelling a famine ,or maybe an army of Orcs seen splitting the heads of your Dwarves with axes

I kinda wish you could also be a pirate of some sort. In adventure mode of course. You could form a pirate crew and pillage the local civilizations. Imagine fights on the sea with other ships. Storing all your treasures you stole from some dumb elves maybe a few weapons in there when you fight Mega sea beast like the Kraken or Hydra. I'm pretty sure they had piracy in what ever timeline Toady has DF set in. I'm pretty sure they have boats too at least Dwarves do because they can somehow trade with you if your on an island and where there boats there is always piracy. "It may be reasonable to assume that piracy has existed for as long as the oceans were plied for commerce." Found that somewhere makes sense doesn't it?
I'm pretty sure they have boats too
Boats vs. Iron weaponry, screw pumps, spoken language, etc.

Well Cheese's events can kinda be predicted by the game. The game may know if a beast is scheduled to show up, or if you've got some proximity to the HFS, but a famine doesn't just happen unless you neglect the farm work. At least not that I've seen.
The orc one, maybe. They could engrave an orc attack, but I guess you'd have an opportunity to change the future so nobody's head actually gets split open :v: Dwarves are really specific about events like that.

It could just be a sign that an Orc siege is coming.
Or, how cool would it be if there was a noble that actually did something useful for once, called a 'Prophet', and he would spend his time engraving predictions..
It could just be a sign that an Orc siege is coming.
Yeah I just wanted to make it a representation of a fierce and brutal attack coming. Not that a specific dwarf was being targeted.

Well there's the philosopher... That's kinda close to it...
'Course he's getting removed in the new version, so... Kinda pointless.

How dare toady take the most useful dwarf evar.I mean who else would go and ponder in their room all day about life.
Obligatory check-in. Is the new version released yet?

Yeah. Go to the site to check out the download link.
Sweet.
Make sure you read the little extra note that's immediately under the download links though.
It's very informative.

I am surprised that my clever ruse has not yet been found out.

Any reason for it?
:crying: you tricked me
Yeah the idea was to say "check the web site before you check here because it tells you right there when the latest version was released."
I just thought it would be funnier this way.
But I guess it went over everyone's head.
