You should attach it to a pressure plate
You know, I've been trying to hook traps to pressure plates, but it never works. Anything I might be doing wrong? :raise:
Could be a number of things that went wrong. Like do you have enough mechanisms? Best chance is to check the wiki.
Elite enemy crossbows and bows are so fucking annoying, they shoot your own crossbowdwarves through the fortifications they're behind at like the fortifications weren't even there. [editline]02:14PM[/editline] Lol, setting the bolts and arrows to do slashing damage instead of blunt or piercing (to prevent arrows from throwing enemies a dozen tiles backwards, and to prevent them from piercing all organs at once) wasn't the best idea, as one of my crossbowchampions got his entire left leg chopped off by an enemy arrow.
I seem to be having a problem with my fort at the start. Orcs invade early, so I can't make a powerful army in time. Is there a fun way to get rid of the invading creatures besides an army or a huge array of traps?

I have enough mechanisms, but then it tells me that there's "nothing to link up to". I have a set of cage traps, stone fall traps and weapon traps set up, but I don't know if they'll activate or not. :raise:

And remember to have doors to lock.
Playing Dwarf Fortress while drunk/high is perhaps the greatest experience you can have in the game. Poor Dwarves :ohdear:
New devlog
I like ant bone :geno:
Holy shit. A bunch of green slime attacked my fort when I was browsing FP. I came back to find out a severely injured legendary woodcrafter (broken upper body, mangled right lower arm, broken right lower leg and broken left lower leg) and a wounded child with a broken left upper arm. The slime almost got inside my fort too. One of the corpses was halfway inside the entrance trap hallway. The second slime got killed by my immediately activated military when I noticed the attack.
it's a shame to have a fun siege you have to exploit the game, I wish invaders would just bash on the door causing slight damage.
Yeah, well the next version will surely have endless fun with the underground, and the versions after that will have even more fun in improved sieges.
Yeah, well the next version will surely have endless fun with the underground, and the versions after that will have even more fun in improved sieges.
Agreed, Toady said somewhere that enemies would be able to use siege engines to break down walls, didn't they?
Agreed, Toady said somewhere that enemies would be able to use siege engines to break down walls, didn't they?
Pretty much.
Pretty much.
Well an easy way to fix that would be 2-tile thick walls + a moat. (the 2 tile thick walls could be so that if one of the walls gets hit and destroyed, it wouldn't leave a HUGE hole where your dwarves inside the fort would be flipping out over because they can see a harmless Orc Wrestler..
I've got two great stories to tell. :v: As I've probably noted: I hate Elves. They have shit to trade and bitch that my stuff is made of trees. So, when their caravan showed up, I sealed in the Trade Depot and just waited. I was hoping they would simply starve to death. What resulted was a massive bloodbath as an Elf berserked and killed all of their animals and his fellow merchants. Half of the room was drenched in blood. :byodood: He made it about three steps out the door before my soldiers put him down. Not long after that, a Goblin ambush occurred. This consisted of half of them getting wiped out by one Tentacle Demon with a crossbow, one making it in the door before getting mauled, and two getting captured (and shortly thereafter killed). Now this pissed off the Goblins, so they sent an invading force. They thought it would be a good idea to chase a Hunter... Until I turned him in to a Soldier. What resulted was one of the most one-sided fights I've been witness to. The Demon immediately turned around and killed two Goblins with his bare hands, only receiving an injury on his left arm. He then rushes forward and slaughters two more Goblins, the rest fleeing in terror. That was beautiful. :v:
good, i'm sick of locking my doors and goblins who showed up to destroy me just go "WELL DAMN, guess we better just loiter."
I love being a jerk. I was trading just fine with the humans... Until I discovered I had the ability to just take what I wanted for free. :v:
I tried to piss off the elves that way, they just came back with more cloth to spite me
Anyone have any idea if mike mayday's graphics set will work with the latest Df release?
Anyone have any idea if mike mayday's graphics set will work with the latest Df release?
Well, you'd have to install only the tileset, because his pack includes some other changes that would corrupt the new version, and even then, there would probably be tons of holes in the tileset due to new/changed creatures. I'm sure you/we can handle the ASCII until a new tileset version is out. Only reason I use a tileset anyway is because it makes the land look more contiguous.
Is there an estimated timer?
Roughly less than a decade probably if we're lucky.
I'd imagine a Titanium weapon would be as strong as steel, yet half the weight.
Thinking of getting that Dig Deeper mod to give my Demons a greater challenge. Anything I should know about it ahead of time? :v:
So it turns out that a walled-in outdoor statue garden built into the side of a mountain is a death trap when goblins with crossbows arrive
You should attach it to a pressure plate
but my dwarf go through there
So it turns out that a walled-in outdoor statue garden built into the side of a mountain is a death trap when goblins with crossbows arrive but my dwarf go through there
Only enemies and berserk dwarves set off pressure pads.
I just got an artifact Platinum Door, worth 100k. This is so being used in my King's room.
I think I'm gonna take up a clothing industry in my fort. I've never tried it before, but I have phantom spider webs all over my map, so I figure it's worth looking into. It's more to keep the dwarves busy than anything, because obviously everyone's already fully clothed, and we make shitloads of money by selling goblin clothes.

Ok, I gotta know real quick: Are the animals brought by elves in cages tame? Or will they go wild as soon as I set them free? They just brought me an alligator, a leopard, and a wolf, and I'd sure like to have those if they aren't going to tear me up somehow.
