What
Have Today released the new version yet? has he? has he?
I'm not even going to get excited for the new version coming out soon.
I thought it would come out soon a year ago, it never did. :saddowns:
I caused all the housing structures on the grotto save to come crashing down.
fort went from ~100 dwarfs to like 3 dwarfs, the flooding got one of them.
The hermit and one guy who got lucky and was in the lower levels of the boat which I re configures to have a food storage incase it became a submarine.
Well this is great, he can prob live there for a few years, a bed and table with chair are his only friends.
Finally got to uploading the aftermath of that massive battle in my fort. Behold! :v:

Quick question. How do I make ceilings? Do I just go up a z-layer and build a floor, or...? :raise:

Yes, ramps are useful for that.
Suddenly, monkeys!
I don't know where they came from but tons of rhesus macaques appeared from nowhere and started harassing everyone outside. However, I always have one set of wrestlers guarding out the front. It was a SLAUGHTER. My hunter decided to join in, too.

Oh god, that's so much it breaks my browser.
My dwarfs are so stupid. All they do is fill up buckets and drop them next to the crippled warriors. I'm sitting here like "wtf 37 recruits just randomly die of thirst I thought stupid Mcdwarf was on it?", I view my med bay and to my surprise see 37 buckets full of water just sitting next to the beds. Those lazy fucks cost me a champion and a bunch of recruits.
I'm just wondering how the rest of you guys fight your battles. Do you just throw waves and waves of dwarfs at your enemies or just send 4-5 dwarfs out to handle it, or do you get all complicated and tactical with squad placements.
Cause at the moment I threw 50 dwarfs at a goblin siege of 80, about 15 dwarfs came back unharmed. Am I doing something wrong here cause I'm hearing stories of how someone’s small military slaughtered a ridiculous amount of goblins and taking a ridiculously low amount of deaths?

It depends on a variety of factors: Consistency of the goblin siege (lots of archers/crossbowmen are NEVER a good thing) consistency of your soldiers, training of your soldiers, and the quality/metal of their armor/weapons.

I have Tentacle Demons. Insanely hard to kill, and can usually butcher several Goblins before causing the rest to flee in terror. :killdozer:
I lost two during my last siege, but neither were soldiers. I usually just tell the civs to stay indoors. I'm still unsure on how to maneuver military around and such...

I have a squad of nine hammerdwarves and one wrestler (The Armored Dangers) that sits in the entry courtyard for my fortress, which is guarded by fourteen cage traps. There's a squad of four axedwarves (The Famous Axes) that I send places to mop up small amounts of goblins, and a squad of four marksdwarves (The Lancers of Verse) that are stationed on a little ledge surrounded by fortifications, above my courtyard (so they can shoot into it), and a small ammo stockpile.
To actually get inside my fortress, goblins have to get through the entry hallway, with three ballistas aiming into it (through fortifications), and the six weapon traps and twelve stone-fall traps. Then they step on the pressure plates, releasing two dozen war dogs from cages in front of them.
Oh, and before all this, there's a cage filled with about three dozen war dogs out front, and I have the dwarves pull the lever when goblins get close. It turned an entire goblin squad to chunks.
My four legendary miners are the reserve squad (The Packs of Wire), and they're stationed inside the fortress proper in case goblins actually get in.
Oh, and all my soldiers except the miners wear full steel plate armor and use steel weapons. All of them except the miners and marksdwarves use steel shields (the marksdwarves use bucklers).
Is this an adequate defense? :P
My main Brewer just went into a Secretive "Strange Mood" and "withdrew from society." How do I know what he needs to create an artifact?

If you don't have a Craftsdwarf's Workshop, make one. Wait until he claims it, then press Q on the craftsdwarf's workshop and see what it says.
Why do people ask here?
Typing "http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/" into your address bar is significantly faster than getting to Facepunch, getting onto the thread and then typing "Guys is the new version out yet".
No.
hey you are so fucking friendly
I am going to replace dwarfs with the mecha-dwarfs, combine style buildings.
Everything will be made of metal.
WTF
"An elven caravan has arrived"
followed five seconds later by a fucking goblin siege appearing right next to the elves
I NEEDED THAT CLOTH DAMNIT
Harvest the cloth from their bins they left when they died.

Same thing happened to me once, only it was a goblin ambush.
Needless to say, I easily dispatched the 6 goblins with one standard Marksdwarf and got all the cloth, thread, and assorted miscellanea I will EVER need.

Well, I guess he needed one of the ones you hadn't built yet.
I hope people aren't going to spam the thread again near the end. Let's keep it normal, k?
[editline]02:45AM[/editline]

Enlighten us.
Elves are smart creatures. They shoot a skeletal fox outside my fort so all my dwarves run outside to collect the precious bones.
Has anyone else encountered a goblin or some other enemy who was wearing dozens and dozens of items? I want to know what the hell was up with that.
They make bracelets and such from the bones of things they've killed, mainly.
