Minecraft Chat Thread v70: Bullshit mod DRM
My friends and I might start using Gregtech when we upgrade to the ultimate pack... But I have really mixed feelings about it. I like a lot of the end-end-game machines and iridium ore and rock cutters and shit like that, but some elements seem really awful, like how machines will waste power if they aren't receiving a certain minimum amount.
Is there anything else that's really horrible that most people change? What should I look for in the config files?

Pretty much all of it since it just needlessly complicates things.
Grogtech pretty much just increases how much grinding for materials you need to do anything as I understand it, besides its machines which are just 'better lol' versions of other mod machines.
I think I read somewhere that if you edit the gregtech config file, all people who play on the server have to have that same config file, and this isn't done automatically. Is that true?
If it is, then my friends and I have to decide by the weekend whether we go with all of gregtech or none of it, because I don't think any of us are up for editing and copying config files together.
I just can't really find a single positive word about Gregtech anywhere on the internet. Except maybe direwolf's video about it, but that guy thinks everything is fantastic.
I gotta say the removal of sprite sheets (at least for use in Forge) due to 1.5 is a piece of trash.
An individual file for every texture? we've regressed imo
The ability to animate/change individual textures without any dependency on the other textures is pretty baller imo

perhaps, but i'll miss my old 256x256 undecipherable mess of pixels and colors
I've been using this program, Texture Unsticher, it's pretty nice, you can stitch and unstitch textures easily, you can even completely rearrange what the stitched texture looks like.
While the switch to individual files will make things nicer in some ways, the removal of TextureFX, or any sort of generated textures really pisses me off. We relied on those for the easy texturing of liquids, and now we have to create a separate animation for each one, which is nuts if you have tons.

But it makes it easier to differentiate between each liquid should you choose to animate them differently. I would think that this update would make texturing better in every way.
Could differentiate anyway. This just removes a way to quickly do a generic liquid.

Use Pastebin?

It's not hard to do it manually, just take the water texture into your favorite image editing program and mess with the hue, contrast and saturation.
I know, but compare that to quickly extending a class, changing the minimum and maximum RGB values, and registering it.
Compare the effort of slightly editing a texture file to all other aspects of making a mod. It's not a big deal.
Had some time today where I didn't feel like complete shit, so I worked on something new.

Curious, what recorder do you use?

I can't believe Swefox shut his server down.
holy fuck did they increase the spawn rate of mobs?
i swear i can't go mining or go out at night without 1000 mobs trying to get a go at my butthole

In the snapshot just before prerelease, unique mob spawning (like with armor and shit, I mean) was jacked waaay up and I could have sworn that like one out of every three or four mobs was armored.
How the hell do I fix this? It keeps popping up after a server start and kills it after 2-3 mins.

Fixed.
I made a house: http://imgur.com/a/lAcQz
it started as a witch's hut and then I went overboard
it still feels really... under-decorated though
[editline]19th March 2013[/editline]
Also, there should really be a "leash" item and some kind of "hitching post" item so you can create an area where your tamed Ocelots/Wolves can wander around without leaving or teleporting to you

Seems it's caused by Steve's Carts. Disable or uninstall it. Wouldn't hurt to also submit the report to the creator. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/680276-151-steves-carts-2-v200a64/

Wow you play on a high FOV
I usually stick to 85
It makes me motion sick to play with anything below 100 in Minecraft
