So, lads, I've had an idea for a mod that made food actually relevant.
Basically you can't eat the same food all the time forever (4 stacks of bread and nothing else yolo) or they'll start satisfying you slightly less, and if you keep a varied diet you get small buffs (very small like 5% stuff)
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions about it? I'd like to pester a modder to see if they do it
One of the reasons I want to do it is because of this mod, that (despite the name) isn't really very useful because of how food is implemented in mc: http://www.silentspy.net/usefulfood.php
I would like something like that. I just think it'd be cool to actually be able to cook food in the game, and make it somehow useful. Like maybe an especially well-cooked meal could give you a buff that lasts until you get hungry again. But I'd also like some kind of skill to be involved, like what's involved with brewing beer.

Set your FOV to Quake Pro, Speed II, add a multiplier to /effect, etc. etc.
i just did Quake Pro and Speed IV :v:
Is there a way to make potions with custom effects? Someone should make a mod like the Enchanting one, but enable making it absolutely ridiculous.
TooManyItems can do Enchants AND Potions, but only up to the normal maximum power.
If you edit the config file a little...

Personally I still had that idea of splitting Hunger into "Meat" and Energy, with the Meat Bar acting sort of like the current Hunger meter, determining Health regen and the like, whilst Energy would determine the player's ability to run, jump, and do other sorts of strength/agility things. Stuff like steak, fish, pork chops and so on would restore lost "Meat", whilst stuff with sugars and carbs in it like bread or potatoes would remove Fatigue from your Energy Bar.
The way the Energy bar would work would be like so; for every X Energy points expended, add 1 point to the Fatigue track, and for every 5 points on the Fatigue track, one of your Energy icons will be greyed out with a red aura, indicating your current level of Fatigue, and your Energy only regens up to the highest non-Fatigued Energy icon. In other words, as you gain Fatigue your maximum Energy is temporarily reduced until your Fatigue is dispelled by eating foodstuffs like cake or bread.
It'd give more reason for one to not live on bread alone, meaning that you should at least have both meaty and carby foods in your Minecraft diet. 'cause currently I don't even need to eat all that Steak I have stockpiled since I currently have a stockpile of Bread in my abode that is easier to renew, meaning I could in theory hole up in my base and just harvest Wheat like I'm playing fucking Farmville, whereas technically as a survivor in the strange land of Minecraftia I should also be cooking and eating the local fauna so that I don't suffer from protein deficiency.
Whoa, people actually eat bread by desire? I'm more of a potato man myself. It's practically chicken. That explains why feathers keep getting in the potatoes.

So much for a basement.
With TMI you can create a potion loaded with whatever effects you want, so you can give yourself something that's a super-panacea with all-in-one regen, insta-health, resistance, etc. or you can give yourself something that's like insta-harm, poison, nausea, slowness, whatever. It's quite handy, and you can do a similar thing with fireworks and enchantments; however, if you're asking for a mod that adds new potion effects, then no, I don't have anything to recommend.

I would have settled for a nuclear reactor and a nuke factory right there, but a stable's fine too. Can't deploy world-shattering, server-crashing blocks of destruction like a hero without a noble steed to escape from quickly enough.
Spoiler: I don't survive the operation. Mr. Piggles dies as well.
This mod is still in it's early stages, and due to various issues I haven't been able to work on it as much as I'd like, but I wanted to get the basic idea out there and get a feel for the communities opinion.
At it's core, this mod will allow for a more immersive and mechanized crafting experience, but still requiring the player to work for it. It will essentially allow for most items and blocks to be melted down into a more liquid form, which you can then store using whatever liquid storage system you choose. But what's storage without a purpose?
The main purpose of melting these things down is to eventually pour them into specialized machines which will allow you to create items out of their liquid components, saving you some resources, and giving you a potential automated crafting environment.
Unfortunately, the changes in 1.5 have caused me to have to reconsider how some things will end up working, but work is steadily being done. What I want from you all is ideas and feedback on what we already have.
You can find our current progress here, in our GitHub repo. I'll eventually provide instructions on how you can test the mod for yourself, and even develop with us.
Thoughts?
Turning off instability in Mystcraft, though cheaty, really makes me enjoy it a lot more. I like exploring randomly generated ages and that isn't so fun when you're getting motion sickness and are being attacked from all sides while being struck by lightning. The first age I generated with instability off was a huge ocean biome where it's always night. Before I would have been panicking and throwing linkbooks around to get me out before half the stuff has even rendered but I just thought to myself "I could totally make a cabana bar here."
i just can't get back in to minecraft. i can play a bit of ftb mp but it's not something i really do much, and i never bother with a singleplayer world because i know i'll just get bored. sometimes i think "i miss the old terrain generation" and go back to 1.7 and make a world but then i get bored again. or i'll think "maybe i'll do some stuff on one of my first ever worlds" and then i load it up and have some fun then never open it again. no matter what i do, i just don't have the motivation to actually do anything.
I usually take the technical aspect and try to automate as many things as possible, it keeps me entertained.
I keep downloading mods but I'd play them for an hour or so and then just give up, mods used to be so much fun.

I dunno what Xycraft is even for. I'm not one for the complicated mods in FtB. I'm just there for the magic shit.
It's not even completely done yet.

I gotta say, after having played FTB and the old Tekkit, I like IC2 and all but I'm finding the magic-oriented mods to be way more fun than the industrial ones.
Networking is hard some times. In terms of Minecraft and the way it handles data anyway. You guys interested in seeing the progress of this mod? It's really grabbed my attention for some reason, so it's not falling off my radar.
Still looking for input on the basic idea.

I only use basic tech levels.
Like having a Generator or a Watermill and some electric furnaces + pulverizers for double ores.
I've been working on a little something something these last few months that's based around playable instruments and is compatible with forge multiplayer and FTB. Then it turned into something more complex.
I'll post more details if anyone is interested.

I'd like details. Sounds interesting.
Looks like it's back to watching the lovable little [1.5]'s pop up in the mod forums.
It's been so long since I've played I think I'll just start a fresh world..... yet again.

Me and Naci will be in it. End of details.
Holy crap. By the looks of this, I think a computer, even with FORTH, would make this a heckuva lot easier (and probably cheaper at the rate I'm going).
Think I could shove frame-moving in under a kilobyte?

Eh, think I may actually enjoy FORTH a bit. More than Java, for sure.
