I've got a week off from Monday and im going to have a crack at making a texture pack. This could either end horribly or... horribly.
[SUB]Bare in mind I've never made one nor used paint.net ever.[/SUB]

I tried making a texture pack once. Once...
I actually stopped because Zakkin made a better one for the same purpose and I had no need to continue, so it's not like mine was horrifyingly bad, though.
I fixed my problem, if anyone has the same issue, it was Synergy causing my mouse to mess up in certain situations. Thanks for the help guys!
I payed $28 a month at Elpis and ran a FTB Direwolf20 pack then Ultimate server. It did well enough.
Was it laggy or anything? I want to run a factions server with a couple of large plugins. I'm assuming mod packs take up a lot more resources than do bukkit plugins, so if yours ran fine I can expect good performance with just bukkit + plugins + a large map?

It's something that I've been interested in doing, just for the fun of it. What I'm planing on doing is altering an existing 256x256 or 512x512 texture pack so I don't have to bother with the GUI/environment etc (basically all the hard parts)
I'm basing the pack of Dear Esther the game. I've started to convert the .vmf files into jpegs and pngs. Many of them are conveniently 512 repeating textures so I shouldn't have too much of an issue there.

Anything else, anyone?
Matmos, Damage indicator (I think that's clientside), Better animations (It's a bit off at times, but still) and Dynamic Lighting.

To add to Matmos, I suggest his other sound mod: Audiotori.
It allows you to overwrite any and every sound in minecraft. I suggest this one mostly for rain, but you can replace any sound, dynamically.
After an hour of faffing around the 512texture pack test is a bit... eye-rapingly sore. Maybe I'll do a test tomorrow with x64 or x32.

The only 512x texture packs I've seen work is Sphax PureDB Craft. Slapping Hi-def textures onto blocky landscapes and models makes little sense unless you're going to embrace the lack of realism.

Then this happened
Make sure your META-INF is nuked in the .jar.

True. I'm only messing around at this stage, getting the feel for creating texture packs, and seeing what they look like. After another quick test I'm just going to re-create it from scratch in x32.
So I'm playing FTB Ultimate Pack and decided to add some mods from the Ampz pack (ICBM, Universal Electricity, Atomicscience).
It all goes fine except for the sounds. I tried find the sounds in the Ampz pack folders but with no luck.
Does anybody, who are experienced with FTB or mods in general, know how I find these sound files?

made a quick little weapon set for an animation im going to make, shield is the only thing i made from pure scratch.
who knows how to make 3d models from these? :V I can't figure it out

I have a custom FTB server, ElpisHost'ed with 1GB RAM. Runs perfectly.

Expect good performance anyways, ElpisHost is amazing.

Do you think I could get away with a factions server running dynmap, iConomy, factions, and a host of other minor plugins on a 6gb map on 2 gigs of ram?

Easily.

Anyone have experience expanding villages? I recently made a world where I spawned in one, so I thought I'd try it. I followed tutorials on the wiki, and even added doors to the villagers' existing houses, but they don't seem to be getting turned on by the doors.
Does it take them a while to realize the village is expanding?

It takes a lot of doors. The wiki should give you a formula for how many doors.

Pretty sure techne is for making models in minecraft. He's trying to make a model that looks like it's from minecraft.
So, the Aether mod is putting off the release that was intended today to fix it up for Minecraft 1.5.1
I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

It means that when 1.5.1 comes out it will be ready. Although they could just release a 1.5 version and still accomplish the same thing.

1.5.1 is out, I just figured they'd release a 1.4.7 version before updating it.
I wonder if the Aether will still be worth downloading this time. I feel like the Twilight Forest mod has basically usurped its role in a very similar way, but has done a lot of things right where the Aether was too ambitious for its own good or outright failed.
That said, I really did enjoy it the first time I played the Aether.
Edit: Is there any actual news on it? The main MCforums thread for it is locked.
Also fuck I just remembered ExtraBiomesXL is still out of date, along with Thaumcraft...

what do you guys think
Honestly a little too toony, but it's nice. Stone sword's butt handle could use a bit of rounding.
Is 1.5.1 compatible with 1.5, or do mods written for 1.5 not work for 1.5.1?
Should be compatible, especially if they set it up properly and used Forge. Forge and FML have gone to great lengths to make sure we don't have to update for sub-versions anymore.
