Ok, science time.
Made a FTB server on my own machine. Joined it, set up a boiler and a furnace in the middle of a chunk.

Put two buckets of fuel into the boiler, and a stack each of gold ore and coal into the furnace

I log off immediately. The server is entirely uninhabited.
Ten minutes or so later I log back on. It's nighttime, the boiler is empty, and the furnace got through half a dozen ores.

I fuck off to the nether and pull up /chunkloaders for the overworld.

So. In conclusion, railcraft boilers are chunkloaders that force as many chunks as a fucking player does. It's just never mentioned in any documentation that I've seen, and it isn't reported transparently to the player.

e: And then I was reminded that the spawn of a multiplayer server is always loaded for some asinine reason, so I'm going to repeat my experiment in some backwards corner of the nether

Ok so just the boiler doesn't load the chunk.
It's something else about my setup, but still linked to the boiler. I put a few buckets of fuel into the boiler, and gtfo via mystcraft age. Like ten chunks remain loaded at my base, and remain loaded until the fuel is burned.

To create a pink wither: 1 pink wool with a flower pot with a rose at the top. Shoots pink skulls at random intervals that have the effect of bone meal, but seemingly larger. Drops a nether star on death.
Horses are the same as pigs and cows, and can be spawned with the latter's spawn eggs.
Diamond chickens are, obviously, the same as chickens, and can be spawned with the latter's spawn eggs.

Did lava buckets' usefulness in furnaces get nerfed by something in FTB? I thought they were supposed to do something like 100 operations in a vanilla furnace, but I just put a bucket of lava in an iron furnace and it only did 12 operations
