that sounds like the best thing ever to me, but i'm not really much of an RP-er
my main grief with the horse is that it looks a little small, and the head is kinda narrow. it's a shame pig-riding will probably be rendered redundant by this, though.
Hopefully Jeb will borrow some of the more atmospheric animals from Mo' Creatures next, like the birds, rats or fish.
He tried to make a turtle but stopped because the code in Mo' Creatures was too good for him to 1-up. :v:
I find it odd that loads of people have issues with horses. I'm the moderator on an RP server and this is some of the best news we've heard in a while. Pigs really, really break the immersion when you ride them. You can either skin them and they look like overweight shetland ponies or you just do without horses, which makes going from place to place a bitch. Hopefully Jeb will borrow some of the more atmospheric animals from Mo' Creatures next, like the birds, rats or fish.
The thing that irks me (I can't really speak for anyone else) is that they chose horses, not some weird-ass/unique animal. Horses are painfully generic, while skeletons ride fucking spiders, not to mention the other mobs like Endermen and creepers which are seen literally nowhere else - they are unique to Minecraft.
I still wish you could tame spiders and ride them like skeletons can. I mean, spiders are passive during the day, you should be able to toss a saddle on one and direct it with normal controls. Maybe wearing a skeleton head would trick the spider into being friendly at night too.
Does anyone have a mirror or a re-upload of ICBM mod for MC 1.4.7?
The official download link on their site isn't working for some reason.
Come on guys, you don't want to be knights riding pigs?

Boars would probably be cooler, essentially you could upgrade a pig to boar status; feed the pig a special kind of magical slop (perhaps add Redstone Dust and Mushrooms to a Bucket of Milk), and it transforms into a large tusked boar capable of sprinting very fast and damaging anything in it's path. If you ever played Nier you'd know what I'm talking about, although that game had less feeding of magical slop and more killing of a giant boar to claim it's tail.

Well, Zombies, Skeletons and Spiders are pretty generic too, it has to be said. I understand why you would want a special mount, but it would make little sense if it was just a horse with another name. The Endermen and Creepers are special because they exploit things which only a game like Minecraft has. A first person perspective and the ability to feel pride in what you're building, respectively. If they could get a faster mount which exploited something only Minecraft has, though I wouldn't be as happy in terms of the RP server as I am for the prospect of horses, I'd definitely find it interesting.
I wanted to ride cows
:(
Formalize ability of things to ride on other things
Add a whole new mob just for riding on
:mojang:

You're not looking at the bigger picture. They may be individually generic, but a freaking skeleton riding a spider, I don't think that's something generic.
So I guess pigs will be kind of a poor mans horse. But I'm willing to bet horses wont be hard to get/maintain anyways. I wonder if they will add a crafting recipe for saddles.
I'd still prefer being able to upgrade a Pig to a Boar; being able to charge around the countryside, smashing into Zombies and drifting like a racecar.
And all the while, this song plays.

piggyback ride on endermen, teleport everywhere randomly

Dinnerbone said they wouldn't because they wanted to keep the saddles as dungeon-exclusive rewards, and give people an incentive to find them.

4 blocks talls, can't walk under anything without drowning.
They should atleast let you be able to take the saddles off the pigs, and when the pig des you lose it. Gives you more of a reason to take care of your pig.

It'd be interesting if there were different advantages and disadvantages to having a pig or a horse. Like a horse is faster and more easily controlled, but skittish, and it runs away from the undead.
Pigs are slow and hard to control, but they'll charge into a zombie fine, simply because they're too goddamn stupid to comprehend that a zombie is dangerous.
The problem I have with the horses in the new update, is that they will probably be a more dumbed down version of the horses from mo' creatures, a mod that has been here since the beta of Minecraft.
Heck, even the models look fairly similar.

Now that we have horses, we need jousting.
As an earlier poster said, I really wish they came up with a cool new creature to ride rather than a horse.. Mo'Creatures gave us that and they weren't really all that interesting.
Can you control pigs now? I thought they were random but I haven't rode one in a long time.

That's because they are.
Mojang got permission to use and edit, the models from mo' creatures :v:
Just tested out Minecraft 2.0 (The April Fools Day update), and it actually is kinda interesting!
I wish they added at least some fake commands or gamerules, that would make it seem like a "big" update and push the joke even further.
All I just want is coloured glass!!
While I was making a diamond chicken farm with a rapid-fire dispenser in Minecraft 2.0, it seemed that it bugged up a lot.

Multiplication in Minecraft.
Would have been cooler to make a vehicle than to find a horse in the wild.
Boats are still the pathetic and haven't changed much since notch threw them in.
A hot air balloon or something along those lines would have been preferred.
Being able to make multi-block boats would be absolutely wonderful.

Wait, that was an April Fools? Son of a bitch, Guudes video about it got me really interested In Minecraft again. Are horses the only things we are actually getting? I thought diamond chickens were actually a pretty novel idea.
I actually liked the "chickens attacking you back if you attack them" mechanic. Hope they added it in.
wait, when was this hostile chicken thing added?
