Why does every prediction/countdown vary so wildly? One site say it'll be launched in a day and a half, while another says a single day. But the Valve countdown says 2 days, so where are these guys getting their number from?

Most of the sites are basing their assumptions off of the current overall progress of the main bar, given a steady rate is maintained. Different sites may be adjusting for average rate over time vs current rates.
