I've grown up with everything from Atari 2600 and an IBM 386 up... I've been using M+K and gamepads for the longest time...
Honestly, I would choose the M+K in most instances. That said, gamepads (or at the very least, joysticks) do have some uses, especially when it comes to driving and flight sims. But all of these things depend on the game, naturally. Example: in a game that plays as slow as arma 2, even though being able to turn on a dime MAY save your life, what is far more likely to be the factor judging your survival is your planning and your awareness. However, in Quake 2, a game all about speed and accuracy, PC users will OMGWTFPWN console gamers everytime. In fact, try playing Quake 2 with a gamepad against a buddy of similar skill on M+K. You will understand what I'm saying very quickly.
Anyone who played Shadowrun or Universe at War while the PC and x360 users were going head to head will understand just how much of a difference good controls can make. That said, the effect wasn't as pronounced in Shadowrun because the game limited your mouse sensitivity (nothing that can't be changed of course) but in both cases, console gamers got shafted, hard. There's a reason PC vs. xbox games don't come out anymore, and it's certainly not because the PC gamers were bitching about getting owned.
You're on a PC game forum, what the fuck do you expect?
So logic and reason go out the window? Right, sounds like a good plan.
But seriously, I find aiming on consoles to be terribly easy. I was just playing a match of BFBC2 on my PS3 and I have no trouble at all aiming and hitting targets almost across the map with a simple Assault Rifle. It's not hard to aim with gamepads at all, it's just as easy as with a M+K, but slightly less precise.
You and me both man, I'm sick and tired of these assholes and their PC elitism.
Let me get this straight: you are on the forums for a company that only makes PC games, make sweeping statements about PC users, and then expect some sort of respect afterwards? Surely you must realize, had you done something like this in a different context, this would be considered trolling?
Still, after playing many of the consoles and also playing PC games as I grew up, I am having trouble understanding why people would even accept the bullshit you deal with on consoles now. The only reason I would ever use a console over a PC is because you stick the game in and play. That simple... only it no longer is that simple. You have to download updates to fix bugs that never should have been there (updates that have sometimes bricked people's consoles btw) and you have to keep buying DLC to remain competitive online, etc etc... why bother playing console at that point? At least when my computer bricks, I just replace the broken part and I'm on my way. Don't have to wait a month to get a refurb console back.
Analog Sticks: You push (with the analog) in the direction you want your aim to go and it'll move depending on how far you push your stick.
Mouse: You move your mouse where you want to aim.
Using the mouse IS more accurate because you can do any movement as fast as you want, you don't have any "speed" limit.
I always disable auto-aim. It can fuck up sniping like no other.

Again, just because this is a PC game forum, does that mean logic and reason towards consoles goes out the fucking window? For people like you, obviously it does. Why do people play on consoles? Because they fucking want to? There's things you can do on consoles you can't on PC's? There's hundreds of reasons, and it's STILL easier to play on a console than a PC for most people. A 10 second patch? Holy shit what a minor inconvenience.
You know what, fuck arguing with you, I've seen arguments with you and it's you ignoring anything that comes back at you and claiming yourself right anyways while your original argument is full of strawmen.
So, tell me this... how do they do it? And perhaps the more pertinent question is, if two gamers of roughly the same skill were pitted head to head, one who used a mouse, the other a controller, how would they fare against each other?
To answer this, play Shadowrun.
Movement stick for careful aiming, look stick for rage.
For some reason I'm good both with keyboard+mouse and controller.
Hehe, you should of seen my awesome aim in Graw 2 with ZUES shooting down a moving helecopter.
My friend has it.....
I was discussing the other day with another gamer and when I said, "I usually like getting shooter games for the PC, it's a bit easier to aim," the kid replied, "No it's not, it's much easier with a controller." or something like that.
How in the world is having to use two analog sticks to move around the camera much easier than using one mouse to move around? If it was, developers wouldn't implement "auto-assist" options.

And yet you ignore my point of updates bricking consoles. It happens, it makes big news when it does, and of all things, consoles really shouldn't be doing that. I think I can reasonably expect that, if 10+ million people use the exact same console as me, that my hardware doesn't die due to an update. Yet, there it is.
Console is easier to use. Doesn't make it any better. And do tell, what can you do on a console that you can't do on PC?
One day we will have a cross platform FPS to settle the console wars.
Mouse, KB > Controller

It's been done. It's called Shadowrun, and you can't play it cross platform anymore. Honestly, it's for the best.

This game looks very interesting. I've never seen anyone on Steam/Xfire playing this... wtf?
A lot of console games will have some form of aim assistance because some people do find it hard to aim (people like me) on consoles. Aiming will usually lock onto an enemy or point in the direction of the enemy. A good way to utilize this is to aim and shoot let the aim down then repeat.

It didn't do well on PC. Games for Windows Live crippled the sales. It's not even a bad game, just nothing really noteworthy. Fairly average, though it did have some neat gimmicks like the differences in the races and the cool abilities (like phasing through walls/floors/ceilings).
You're on a PC game forum, what the fuck do you expect?
i wasn't expecting cunts
:iceburn:
People that say aiming on consoles is no issue simply have never played with a mouse and keyboard before.
Kinda makes you wonder why no console has a mouse and keyboard yet. It would be such a massive improvement for FPS and RTS games.

The truth sucks man, but compared to console players, PC players are elite. We've got the rigs, the scripts, the equipment... everything that optimizes the game and adapts it to our personal needs, so we can have the best visuals, the fastest reactions and the best aim. Make a PC player play on someone else's PC, and he'll play like shit. Just because that PC is optimized for someone else.
Compared to PC gaming, console gaming is strictly little league. That's not being demeaning, those are facts. The sooner console gamers realize that, the sooner we can get over this whole "omg pc gamers is no take me serious" bullshit. Console fanboys are like little kids discussing bikes in a ricecar streetracing forum.

Have you never seen the X-Box keyboard and mouse? Well I saw one for the original XBOX so there should be one for 360

dreamcast
hint hint it was terrible
Well the controls obviously are not frustrating to them. I can aim all good on consoles, it's not like I find aiming fun or frustrating.
Hai muntu. Locked the JC2 thread yet you handsome sonofabitch?
I hate consoles, personally. M+KB is awesome.
In response to the thread title: very badly.

Not everyone can afford a good computer. Most people that play on consoles have them because they are casual gamers that like to play every once and awhile, not enough to warrant buying a fancy computer. I was like this at one time and now I have my $1500 gaming computer. Some people also prefer consoles because you can play locally with them. Just because people prefer consoles doesn't mean they are retarded.
Plug in a mouse and keyboard. Watch 'em rage

Ehh, you can plug them in, but would the games support them? I doubt it.
when i play on consoles i tend to aim with the thumb sticks
How is it that everything on Facepunch ends up as a console vs. pc argument?

No we're in General Games Discussion not PC Games Discussion.

Xbox - 200$, given, this is the arcade and is the cheapest.
5 Games from gamestop or whatever - 300$, 60$ for a new release.
Live - 50$ for a year.
Internet - 20-50$ a month.
Can't do anything besides play games.
PC - 500-600$ for a basic gaming PC, up to however much you wanna blow on it.
5 Games from steam - 250$, 50$ for each new release, although Valve's games packs and everything would bring it down considerably, to say 150-200$.
Internet - 20-50$ a month.
Watch movies, facebook, internet, photoshop, whatever you want.
Comes down to 900$ for PC, and 700$ for an Xbox, if you extrapolate the buying of games, PC quickly becomes cheaper. You could argue that you have to upgrade your PC, say 200$ a year or something, but PC can still do much more, and besides, you pretty much have to buy a PC anyway, even if it's a business machine, and upgrade it anyway. I don't really see the logic in this, other then having an Xbox for having friends over.
