Dota 2 General Chat XXIII - You can't go wrong with 6 boots

Well apparently Dota is unplayable today.
At least in EU.
Okay third time was the charm.
I was playing Slark, I was level 6, suddenly for no reason our Dark Seer opens allchat
"report slark"
"doesn't level his third skill"
This AL v EG match is such a downer, 50min pause so far because of connection issues.

I swear I better not win 14 rares due to this bullshit, I'd feel so dirty.
Here's hoping Valve will have another event soon. There is a drought for almost the whole year, then you get two very close events (Diretide and Frostivus), seems a bit weird.
Lmao AL d/c'd all at once.

Dota 2 is now a turn-based game.

Well, the only event so far confirmed is The International 3. Odds are they'll do something for that, like last time with the chests.
Maybe they've got something planned on the grapevine? "Lots of stuff goin' on backstage" in the words of the almighty?
I'm actually glad game got postponed, I was gonna lose 2 uncommons otherwise.

West and East Qualifiers are also two Valve-hosted events that will happen fairly soon.

You know you're doing a fine job when the russian on the enemy team calls you a cyka.

fine job = being called a "bitch"
Flawless logic

To be fair I can understand his logic; Essence Shift makes up for Slark's crap AGI gain and boosts his DPs to crazy levels, so leaving it out handicaps your damage power significantly. But that DS clearly doesn't know the parameters for reporting someone.
Did you level Essence Shift beforehand?
So fucking delicious match.
I random Timbersaw and go up against Cent, Lion and Drow Ranger farming a Trilane.
Before match started, Drow Ranger even said " I couldn't care less what you think of my pick ;) " when we laughed at his terrible pick.
Anyway we had PL who also got equally good farm and was a p. good player. I snatched First Blood against their trilane as solo Timber, while Drow farmed a Hand of Midas, but eventually we shit all over them and took barrackses effortlessly.
Would anyone be willing to rate my drafts by any chance? Trying to figure out how good my drafting ability is.

For future reference, I'm Bacon Incarnate and was dire all 3 games.

Nvm, Bacon Incarnate it is.
First match looks like you might've lost mid game pretty hard.
Early on your lanes were pretty safe, except for KotL who might've had trouble if literally anyone but Dirge came after him (especailly Bara) and NP wasn't enough to keep him alive.
Problem is, I think they saw through you with that early Tidehunter ban. You have strong ganking with NS, assissted by Prophet, covered by Dazzle and KotL and it really makes for terrifying pushing and gaking presence that makes room for PL, however they got so much disable and nukes on their hand + "commando" I assume Spirit Breaker, whose role was to strangulate whoever was the most annoying, they could walk over you with proper levels and a couple of crucial items and no Shallow Grave or Illimunate would do.
Sure PL is scary when he farms and Night Stalker makes for room, but when you have 2 "mobile" gankers (NS and NP), while rest can't react much beside locally, you are running yourself into a corner where you either commit a lot of resource to actually protecting PL with ganks and supports all around him, giving room for dangerous heroes like Tiny, WR or Bara to farm/level up, or you keep low security around PL (either KotL or Dazzle at a time), gank with rest, but then problem is that NS and NP can easily leave heroes like KotL or Dazzle far behind, while doing their ganking magic, which leaves room for dangerous buttsecks from literally any of their heroes.
If you were to have a hero like that Tidehunter, or any of the "big fuck up aoe" kind of guys, you'd have security of that 1 get-out-of-jail-free card if ganks goes awry due to low commitment or to give time for allies to TP to tower/PL.
I wonder if I hit anywhere close to how actual match went on.

it's not a bad idea to level like: Pounce, Stat Steal, Pounce, Dark Pact, Pounce, Ult, Pounce, Stat steal, then max out Dark Pact, so you'll have 2 levels of stat steal for those auto attack harasses and Pounces.
[editline]14th April 2013[/editline]
also as always, gotta get those levels fast

Rubick with two force staffs.
Rubick with two force staffs.
We had already won by that point.
People underestimate the power of ganking juggernaut.
Pretty much, the colors are very off.
Also, Im the only one who thinks the fish hair thing for slark is tad silly?
It wouldn't look as bad if his ear fins weren't ragdolled to hell. Taking off the hood makes them go all bloodleoodleoodleoodleboop

It's useful to get at least 1 point in essence shift before 6, but pact/pounce are your bread and butter early game so you should focus on maxing them first.
Pounce itself is quite a hefty nuke spell, coupled with a lane-mate it should be enough to get some early game kills.

This is what I had feared, but it turns out the other team was quite bad, we stuck Kotl as the offlane against them and just spammed illuminate and he got several kills vs the trilane.
I'm more concerend about feedback about how badly my draft could have gone like this, because in all honsetly the people we were playing against were quite bad (we didn't do team mm because we had a variable roster)
Sounds legit, though personally I'm kinda wary of Dark Pact in the early game, since before level 6 I don't have that sick regen to make up for the health loss. Still, Tangoes can give some extra regen for a while, and Salve is good if you're far enough back. So is it advisory to get Pact first or Pounce?

I sit it out. If they've got a good amount of disables, like Shaman and Sven, I often go pact first. IF they're autoattackers, pounce will keep them in place or out of range long enough to run or fight.
I just love it when you get to press accept five times.
It's not offlane, it's solo.
But...offlane is solo side lane.
I remember when the kids used to call it the hard lane

Ahhh, cunning tactics. So basically, wait until you see who you're laning against before deciding between Q or W first? Sounds like it could work. Also Dark Pact removing Disables sounds SOOO useful, especially considering that there are a fair amount of disables in this game.
Just a question, but does League have a lot of disables in comparison to Dota?
I remember when the kids used to call it the hard lane
People still call it hard and suicide lane.
Offlane is just bit more appropriate (or was few months ago) because it was the "stand there and do nothing" lane.
But...offlane is solo side lane.
Doesn't the term "offlane" equal "roaming"? I always thought it meant that.
[editline]14th April 2013[/editline]
I just checked Legion Commander's info on wiki.
And damn, does she look like an incredibly potent hero.
High stat gain, great base damage, a nuke, a heal and the amazing ult.
Soul Ring looks like it would fit her rather well, and I get a feeling she can even solo a lane.
