It looks amazing, but am I the only one who thinks that holding your pistol with your left hand and your light source with your right hand a really dumb decision? Shouldn't you be using you good hand to hold your gun? The character appears to be right handed.
Fuck! I wish I had HL1 now.
Bumping this thread with a nice and juicy, 7-minute long gameplay video: I think I speak for everyone when I say: "I can't wait for this to come out."
Why is it that horror games/mods with old school graphics are scarier then horror games with modern graphics?
Why is it that horror games/mods with old school graphics are scarier then horror games with modern graphics?
It leaves more to the imagination?
Why is it that horror games/mods with old school graphics are scarier then horror games with modern graphics?
Maybe with modern graphics they just seem all the more fake. Maybe it's modern game mechanics, because FEAR scared me.
Fuck! I wish I had HL1 now.
I thought I was the only one who didn't own HL1. :v:
I wonder what it would've been like had this been developed around the time period the GoldSrc engine was in.
I wonder what it would've been like had this been developed around the time period the GoldSrc engine was in.
No one would be able to run it well.
No one would be able to run it.
ftfy
I have been more excited for this mod than any other mod ever. Even most standard games. Looks a like a mix between Afraid of Monsters (obviously), Resident Evil, and Condemned.
I talked to one of the developers, and he only said you couldn't decide which hand to hold the lantern is because of some weird crash bug.
No, I'm asking why the developers would choose to make it that way in the first place.
No, I'm asking why the developers would choose to make it that way in the first place.
They were originally going to give the player an option of which hand they could use the gun and lantern, but putting the pistol in the right hand and the lantern in the left caused a crash, and it's not that big of a deal to fix and they're too far in to tinker with it now.
I don't know why but Goldsrc engine always have a creepy vibe in it. Even HL1 can be really creepy sometimes.
Goldsrc horror games are always creepier to me because I played Half-Life when I was young, so that familiar look of a Goldsrc game brings out all these childlike nostalgic feelings. I've got a feeling that being all nostalgic while playing a terrifying horror mod won't go well.
Been following this for quite a while, cant wait for the final release.
Andreas is nowadays working on DICE, so he doesnt have that much free time for the mod. ~ its going to take a while.
Andreas is nowadays working on DICE, so he doesnt have that much free time for the mod. ~ its going to take a while.
Andreas said in one the videos that all the mapping and other stuff he was responsible for is pretty much done. That '5%' left is probably coding and bug removal.
Ok this mod should be released by now. Nothing happened since release of that 7 min gameplay. This page also says it's 100% complete. http://www.moddb.com/mods/cry-of-fear

I'd rather them do all this to have the most bug-free experience in a modification then release it now. I'm expecting this game no later than December.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/cry-of-fear
...no it doesn't? [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline] The games not finished, it's at 95%. That doesn't mean it's about to be released. It's been at that status for a long time, bug fixing and polishing is a bitch fyi. Be patient.
>you wake up in I'm sure this mod will kick ass but I absolutely hate when horror stories/games start like this.
Why are the nicely coded, graphically awesome games always horror games ? :(
What I wanna know is how the fuck it's possible to make such a graphically pleasing game with a 13 year old engine.
Looks sexy. They should have used source though, Goldsrc is very limiting (Literally).
If they had used source it would've ended up like every other source mod with a 4 year + development (possibly never coming out) and upon release would've been using 40-60% default content and still felt like HL2 Goldsrc may be more limiting, but fuck, mod teams got shit done back then and had way less interpersonal drama.

It's much easier to get a mod to have it's own feel on Goldsource. Have you noticed that whenever you play a source mod you kinda feel like it's really half-life 2 repainted? You can of course get rid of the feeling by replacing absolutely everything you possibly can imagine, but that's hard work.

Which still gives it that "It feels like Half-Life 2 all over again" vibe.
News update: http://www.moddb.com/mods/cry-of-fear/news/news-and-interview "The single player campaign is finished, with 4 fresh endings. You can play it from start to finish, and it all works perfectly. What we need to finish now is 1 more ending to single player, and a lot of unlockables, such as clothes, weapons, game modes and stuff you can unlock. Another thing we've only come halfway with is Co-op, and that needs to be finished as well." Like i said, the mod isn't finished yet, so be patient.
