I downloaded and installed this, what can I expect from it? Shitty jumpscares? Actual terrifying gameplay? Is the coop any good? Can I just jump into that and handle singleplayer later? [editline]22nd February 2012[/editline]
Anyone near the West Coast want to Co-op it up with me? In AZ.
I'm in Cali, we can play if my other group falls through.

And the developers recommend that you play the SP first.
i can't figure out how the fuck i can [sp]use the key from my bag to open that apartment door[/sp] also the headbob is irritating, it makes me dizzy
actually, it's not that door you have to open with the [sp]"rusty", IIRC[/sp] key, it's another one :p was pretty confusing
Started a Let's Play of it. Also ran into a bug where I couldn't get out of the padlock and had to restart, anyone else had that problem?
Played a bit of the co-op. It prepared me for Single Player in terms of enemies.
snip never mind I figured it out
Gah, I get like 2 FPS at all times.
This mod is amazing, but not nearly as scary as Afraid of Monsters. But it certainly is an improvement over an already great mod, I hate those bitches with the claws though, I shouldn't have picked the second hardest difficulty.
Afraid of Monsters barely scared me and this is doing a good job so far. Also I need help..I have NO CLUE what to do at the park [sp]There are a bunch of animal statues and ways to move them but I have no clue what to do..I found a large stone compass but that has been of no help..any ideas?[/sp] Wait I think I found what I needed.
Yeah, I can't even play it. It's laggy as hell and I only manage to get to that bit with the computer in the cafe before it freezes on me and I have to restart the whole god damn cutscene.
CoF is bonerific! I'm already at the 4th Chapter. [thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/470862413601246455/FE360888294D8951A4972BC609953494EF262104/[/thumb] Anyone else got that bug? It's basically your point of view projected at a different angle, upside-down in this case.
Just got past the first boss, jesus.
game crashes my display drivers on startup :(
game crashes my display drivers on startup :(
ATI? Try using the 2D menu and disabling some features under Advanced in the Settings menu.
Things pop out, I jump. I'm not afraid, it's just annoying after a while. :I
You see, everyone says the right way to do the horror genre is to play with suspense and avoid jump scares- but you know, I stopped getting scared halfway through Amnesia because by this point I knew they wouldn't dare actually frighten me, just try to keep me unnerved. I got a bit tense during the chase scenes, that's pretty much it. For an effective horror game, you have to mix both styles, not adhere to one of them 100%.

I'm just saying you can have too many jump scares.
Well yeah. I'm just saying you can have too many jump scares.
Alright, then. I guess I haven't gotten too far in it, I'll have to see for myself.
Goddamit I hate Google chrome's download system! It always get's stuck when downloading big files. Does anyone by any chance have a torrent mirror of COF?
Everything runs smooth. But then I was walking in circles and opening the same doors, this happened: Everywhere I looked it was white. I thought it was part of the game, but nothing happened.
Sounds like you need to get a shittier graphics card.
I restarted, and it was ok again. I just hope it doesn't happen again, since I had to redo some scenes.
I can't think of this game being "scarier than amnesia" like some guys said since it got guns on it, but oh boy if it is scary I'm in for a good night tonight, can't wait to play it.
I just completed my first singleplayer run. According to the stats, it took me about 5 hours, and there are still many unlockables left to unlock and different endings to achieve. It was a fantastic experience, but honestly, this wasn't nearly as frightening or unnerving as Afraid of Monsters. For anyone who wants to get the most out of singleplayer, I would highly recommend that you do not play co-op first. As has been known for a while, the co-op maps are basically just the singleplayer campaign in reverse. I didn't play co-op first, but I did watch Spike and Barley's pre-release Livestream and it really spoiled much of the ending section of the mod for me. But with all that said, I definitely can't deny the fact that Cry of Fear is, without question, the finest row boat simulator on the GoldSource engine. So far it's pretty good, dual welding is really useful and the dodging is also really cool, but the game keeps crashing every 30 minutes or so for me. I think I'll have to wait for a fix before playing more.
Stuck at the apartments. [sp]Just after the bit where I cleared out the rooms with they key I found in the pedo's room[/sp]
ATI? Try using the 2D menu and disabling some features under Advanced in the Settings menu.
i had done the 2d menu thing, which only got me as far as the difficulty selection, and other people with the problem have reported no graphics options worked for them
It won't let me in the menu, it starts loading as soon as I launch the game and then this happens No matter yes or no it's still the same So yeah, how to fix this [editline]23rd February 2012[/editline] Oh my god, after reading this thread I thought maybe making this on goldsrc was a mistake IT'S FULL OF BUGS [editline]23rd February 2012[/editline] Fixed it, apparently you need to launch the game through a custom launcher.
Damn it doesn't work .
Fixed it, apparently you need to launch the game through a custom launcher.
how to do??
how to do??
Um, the launcher comes standard with the game. It should be on the desktop. [release]If you have lag, turn the Water Shader in Advanced to 'OFF'.[/release]
