mods like this make you wish you own half life 1
mods like this make you wish you own half life 1
The original Half Life isn't that expensive. If you are lucky, you can probably find a jewel case of any published GoldSrc game at your local thrift store for about 2 USD or less. Enter the product key into Steam to get the Half Life 1 Platinum pack. I've collected a few GoldSrc games in this manner and given the product keys to friends/relatives, including my dad.

Though I don't like the idea of doing it, I would buy Half-Life a second time just to play this mod.
I gotta say that new interview is good. And the interviewer was really professional. He exceeded my expectations.
Looks sexy. They should have used source though, Goldsrc is very limiting (Literally).
You're a moron. Source is a good engine but compared to the Unreal engine or even modern-day engines it's absoloute balls. The only reason Garry and valve still use it is there's a lot of compatiblity out there, The next indie game Garry makes will likely dump source the moment it can. Goldsrc is limiting yes but it's still a great engine for mods as it's easy to use, doesn't need a bajillion hours to load up, And has some compatibility with quake tools i believe. [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] Also i want my fucking bank card to arrive so i can rebuy the HL Anthology.

Source isnt bad at all And with valve updating a whole new source version with every game it will be next gen in no time
Source is also easy to use. (limited map compatibility)
For some odd reason the HL1-modders see it as opposite. Enlighten us, have you ever modded on Goldsource?
yes
But really, how the fuck do people get shit like this into goldsrc. Bump-maps, reflection/refraction shaders, physics, HOW?
I don't know,i can't set them on fire in Gmod!
-wrong thread-
Oh yay, another mod about shreiking screamer enemies that run really fast and have jittery movement and I can't see shit. Goddammit, this is AoM all over again. I appreciate all the effort done to make this look good (It looks better then most Source Engine Mods for Pete sake) but it seems like it's going to waste with the stock setup and cheap ass jump scares. No wonder ruMpel said he wasn't scared by Amnesia, he has no idea what real atmospheric pacing and horror really is. What a waste of an awesome graphical mod. :(
I would respect you as it's your opinion, but it's not released so you cannot have an opinion about the mod.

inb4 one of the endings is you went on an insane acid trip and killed babies thinking they were that Pin-faced guy from Hellraiser.

What a waste of an awesome graphical mod. :(
WTF AoM no atmosphere???? lmfao I was more terrified of AoM than I was of Amnesia, despite amnesia being a masterpiece and AoM merely a goldsrc mod.
The issue with Amnesia was that it relied on those spook effects applied over the actual game, I mean the on screen effects and stuff, and every time a game has the character panting and whatnot it just completely destroys my suspension of disbelief. Making the game super not-scary. Also the old castle thing is a bit too cheesy for me to get scared as well. So I'm hoping for this to scare me. (the cradle scared me)
Amnesia wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. When you play AoM, they force to go places where you know scary shit will happen. But in Amnesia I noticed a trend, if you hear the music when you are near an enemy, hide, wait for the music to go back to the ambient part and the guy is gone. Kind of a buzz kill for me, seeing I only once ran into an enemy and he fell into a hole trying to reach me.
Amnesia is a puzzle game, Afraid of Monsters is an action game. It's like comparing Clock Tower to Resident Evil, it makes no sense. The only part I didn't like about Afraid of Monsters was the flashlight batteries. It's extremely frustrating to play through the game without a flashlight. It's supposed to make the game scary, and challenging, but it doesn't work. It's a bad design move. Nobody likes getting killed by something you can't see.

From the sound of it, this mod is still a ways off. Bit disappointing, since I was really hoping it'd be done in time for Halloween. [editline]2nd October 2011[/editline]
WTF AoM no atmosphere???? lmfao I was more terrified of AoM than I was of Amnesia, despite amnesia being a masterpiece and AoM merely a goldsrc mod.
To be honest, I'm not too impressed with AoM in retrospect. The mapping is garbage and the enemies become more funny than anything once you realize what blatant reskins of HL1 enemies they are. It had its moments, to be sure, but comparing it to Amnesia is like comparing creepypasta to H.P. Lovecraft.
Another update: http://www.moddb.com/mods/cry-of-fear/news/awesome-progress Those animations are awesome.
Dem good looking models. Sounds feel a bit like... they are literally coming out of a television set, rather than being "real".

I've cleaned the OP up, seeing as this is nearing completion.
Wow this mod looks pretty amazing using the gold source engine and all. Shit your pants scary and dark as hell, just like silent hill.
Ahhh they're almost done! The wait is killing me.
Is it just me, or Cry of Fears moddb page literally full of idiots? Or is the rest of moddb like this as well? I can't say I go there too often.
Oh man the music in the animations video is so nice. Is it part of the mod?
It's from the CoF OST if you're interested. The first track is by Muddasheep, the second is by Patrik Jansson I believe.
From that videos's page.
