but a couple of cheap jump scares
I don't think Cry of Fear is perfect either (Afraid of Monsters is better on many levels, to be honest), but I don't see the reasoning behind all of these "cheap jump scares" complaints about CoF. Virtually all games in the horror genre present jump scares of some sorts, even if you want to conveniently forget them, and Cry of Fear doesn't even possess a particularly great number of them, especially compared to its predecessor AoM which featured [sp]screaming faces and silhouettes sporadically sprinkled into the maps, one of which is actually referenced in an Easter egg in CoF[/sp].
Just about everything in CoF has some prior build up in tension or some deliberate misdirection to give a false sense of security before mercilessly preying upon your vulnerabilities. In my opinion, the only two real "cheap" jump scares are [sp]the screaming face in the intro (just barely, the whole sequence is a very nice build up)[/sp] and the [sp]screaming woman in the red dress who greets you behind a door, mainly because this seemed fairly random[/sp]. The latter was quite a fun spook, though.
I think people are just mad that the very first big scare in the mod got them and gave the false first impression the rest of it would be more of the same.

I don't think CoF is particularly scary or nightmare-inducing, I also don't get why people go all on the offensive when something jumpy or scary happens. My usual reaction to every scare is "What the hell did I expect [insert situation here]?"

Talk about nitpicking.
Heh, he took it off the listing.
GREAT NOW A PUZZLE
[sp]I readed the note in the floor and keep using the doors but they teleport me back to the same place!?[/sp]
[sp]Car, wheel chair, gun, book[/sp]
So does anybody have a save right after they've placed the fuses for the second time, in the subway?
[sp]I mean I really don't want to have to do that fucking maze again[/sp]
So nobody has a save?
[sp]FUCK IT IM DOIN THE MAZE[/sp]
The maze takes but a minute. It's not that hard.

I know that jump scares are a part of horror, but things such as John Carpenter's The Thing doesn't have jump scares except for the blood scene, and that's because it was the one time and it came out of nowhere.

Because it's a cheap way of surprising someone, and i mean surprising someone, not scaring them. Scaring a person makes them feel fear, a jump scare surprises someone by having something come out of nowhere. It's usually used for a cheap thrill and nothing more.
I'm not saying it can't be used and it wasn't used effectively in Cry of Fear. I would have rather something like [sp]the screaming woman in the red dress[/sp] to come later in the game rather than the [sp]the screaming face in the intro (just barely, the whole sequence is a very nice build up)[/sp], because it made me instantly know that all of the jump scares were going to happen.
Suspense causes fear, not a screamer.
The maze takes but a minute. It's not that hard.
Mazes make me panic. Besides, I was only trying to bypass it because the fuses were broken again.
[sp]I got past it, but now trying to shoot those things that attack you on the train with both my phone and the pistol out crashes the game. This is frustrating.[/sp]
i got a save right after[sp] the maze and on the forest [/sp] if anyone wants pm me
[editline]3rd March 2012[/editline]
ok well last question im almost done with the game now..Should i give the
[sp]gun to the doctor or not?[/sp]
I tried playing this but for some reason its broke as shit for me.
The menu is fucking up, a message pops up whenever i start it, when i start the game i can barely see anything past that eye shape and then the transparency is completely fucked.
Anyone know why?

do it if you have [sp] killed the carcass to get the best ending[/sp]
I'm having a problem. I just did the statue puzzle in the park. I got the key to the gate right there. I unlocked the gate and went in it and it crashes to menu.
And yes, I have 1.1.
Alright, I'm on the last boss, but [sp]how in the flying fuck do I dodge all his 2x4's and cardboard boxes (how exactly those would hurt someone, I have no idea)?
I've not even survived to a point where I can hurt him yet because of those fucking wooden planks.[/sp]

Crouch jump, crouch
Beat it.
[sp]Got cheated out of my good ending because the person who's save I used didn't kill Carcass. Feel a bit annoyed.[/sp]
Is there another secret room after the train crash? Or do you just lose all unlocks?

[SP] There is one on the ground, right to the car[/sp]

Okay so, FP bros help me out here.
[sp]I am fighting Carcass, but it is kicking the fuck out of my ass, I don't have the assault rifle thing that they keep alluding to by placing ammo for it everywhere and I really want it because FUCK THOSE FLOATING HEADS
Did I miss it somewhere? Is it in that fucking part with the shovel because I swear to god I checked and rechecked that garden a thousand times[/sp]
The forest is about ten times worse than the AoM forest.
JESUS FRIGGING CHRIST So i just went trough [sp]the whole forest now im on the underwater zone got the "Sewer key used it on the door and after using it my Cry of fear freezes[/sp] does anyone has a save after that part?
FFFFFUUUUUUUUUCK. Spoilers everywhere; I'm going to have to empty my bowels before I actually sit down to play.
Uuuh, my game keeps crashing when I try and go through a certain door.
Its in the tunnels under the constructions site, the door after the door you need the key to. It crashes and gives me some error about no free edicts?

Did you update?
Anyway, add "-num_edicts 2047" to your launch options
Oh, I wasn't aware there was an update, thanks.
finally finished the game...Now about doctor mode is it worth or i should ignore it?
hard as fuck, has some of the main game parts but backwards, way more enemies
Go for it if you feel suicidal
I crash as soon as I go through the door past all the crazy twisting hallways when [sp]Simon shoots himself[/sp]. Any ideas?

If you want to be able to aim down ironsights in a dark room, yeah. [sp]You get some night-vision goggles that look like a cool gas-mask.[/sp]

[sp]There should be a fence to your right, which he can't shoot through. Hide behind there and keep on shooting him with the hunting rifle, it should take a clip or two on Normal. Remember that you can't shoot through the fence either.[/sp]
I'm stuck at the [sp]chainsaw dude in the ronald street alley, he has way too much health for what little ammo i am given[/sp]
